As an autistic mother rearing autistic children in the faith, Summer Kinard knows first-hand many of the challenges of life with disabilities. She brings her extensive background in patristic theology and catechesis (B.A. in religion, M.Div., Th.M. in early church history and theology) to skillfully weave together the healing patterns of holy tradition with the daily patterns of life with disabilities. Summer has become acquainted with hundreds of Orthodox families with disabilities through sharing on her website the resources she has developed that make faith accessible to families with disabilities. At a time when at least twenty percent of people live with disabilities and two percent are autistic, there is an urgent need to apply church ...more

So I said, "Jeremy has two great passions: his gun collection, and his bunny rabbits. And he's also a vampire. Who wants to kill himself." We laughed, but this ridiculous character stuck in my head. He got a name change and a different backstory (which will come up more later in the series), met a cop named Maddy, and suddenly there was a real story. If you like the book, you can thank the fine burrito bowl makers at Chipotle, where the egg was hatched.(less)

It's good to hear from you. My baby girl is 6.5 months old, so I missed this question from 6 months ago! The book of my heart, Tea & Crumples, is coming out November 2. I know you'll understand what I mean, since your Greening of a Heart so beautifully expressed your love of the garden. We started the blurb with "Tea is how I love people." I think you'll understand. I'm glad I came across your encouraging words this evening, as I am in the midst of a writing retreat this week. Hoping to near completion of Tea & Stones (book 2 in the Faith Tea Love series) this week. I see that you released a new book since we last talked. I'm going to add it to my list right now. All the best to you all!(less)

One-Way Skin and a Myrrh-Bearing Heart

Almost two weeks ago, I attended the Ancient Faith Writing and Podcasting Conference, a two-day gathering that builds up the Church by strengthening the people helping to teach in it. In its short history, this conference has become the preeminent conference for Orthodox Christian creatives, or in internet terms, “content creators.” But we’re not really those things. We’re not abstractions. The...
