On the day Auston Habershaw was born, Skylab fell from space. When he learned of this as a small boy, it pretty much sealed his authorial fate.

After over a decade's worth of odd jobs, part-time passions, and pointless diversions, Auston now teaches English at a university and writes novels and stories all the rest of the time. He lives in the city of his birth, Boston, Massachusetts, with his wife, dog, and two lovely little girls.

Yes, Book 4 (THE FAR FAR BETTER THING) is currently due out this fall. That *might* be subject to change (my editor is kinda swamped, so it might take him a while to get edits back to me), but the current plan is that I'll be doing final edits over the summer and it will come out September 4th in e-book, and then probably early October in paperback. Hi there! I don't mind answering at all, actually (sorry I didn't see this sooner!).
I entered the contest, all told, about 10 times, maybe. I received and Honorable Mention, two Semifinalists finishes, and a Finalist before I won.

Glad you enjoyed my story! My novels are set in the same world (though a few years down the road and in a different nation), so I hope you enjoy those, too!(less)

NEW STORY OUT! Read “Planned Obsolescence” in the May ’23 Galaxy’s Edge

NEW STORY DAY!

I’ve got another story out, this time in Galaxy’s Edge.

The story is “Planned Obsolescence,” which is the latest in my series of linked scifi short stories about a shape-shifting assassin named Faceless and its adventures in a distant expanse of space known as “The Union of Stars.” This time Faceless finds itself on the subterranean planet of Sadura and is negotiating a kill-for-hire

“The proclamation had been very clear: All eligible maidens were to attend. All. High or low estate, fat or thin, short or tall, one leg or two. In one week's time, the prince was going to pick a pretty girl from the crowd and make a princess of her. To most women in the kingdom, it was as though God had extended His hand to them.

But not to the seamstresses.

To old Clara Le Dure, it seemed the king had decided this was the week she ought to die. He was personally seeing to it that she should stitch herself into oblivion.”
