Writer of the crazy, reader of anything, artist when I feel like it, lover of chocolate, sister to three, friend to all and follower of Jesus. My name is J.C. Buchanan, and I’m a 17-year-old homeschool student from Illinois. I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and reading for even longer. When I’m not writing, thinking about writing, planning for writing, or reading, I’m likely hanging out with my amazing friends, eating chocolate, making movies, babysitting awesome children, or hanging out or volunteering at church. I believe in the power of fiction to change the world and my sole desire is to show people God’s amazing love through my writing!

Some things I love:

- Books
- Pictures
- Dark chocolate
- Starbucks
- Sharpies
- Gel pels
- Essen

Yes, I would recommend self-publishing. It's more work on my part, but I like it a lot and there's no working with publishers. We used CreateSpace, which is a subsidiary of Amazon. You just have to do all the work yourself and then they will print the book for you and it can go on Amazon as well. It was really affordable and I'd definitely recommend it. The only thing is that since you're not with an official publisher you have to do all the editing and formatting yourselves, but it's not too difficult. CreateSpace also has community forums and help pages for advice and it was extremely helpful for us. :) If you have any more specific questions, feel free to message me!(less)

Brimming with childlike wonder, vibrant imagination, and incredible fantasy, Forever Neverland was a beautifully told middle grade tale that I would highly recommend.

Bold and unique, Neverland grandly took on a wild life of its own, distinct from the

“Well, this awkward.' -McKenna”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“Wait a second. We aren't doing this just because McKenna started chanting, right?”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“She had a triangular face with piercing red eyes. Her hair was sticking up at an odd angle, and it was a blackish color with streaks of greenish pinkish. Her face displayed sharp curves instead of elegant ones. Her lips were black and her mouth had a half-frown half-smile look.”
J.C. Buchanan, The Hidden Amethyst

“How do you do?" said Violet.
"How do you do?" said Klaus.
"Odo yow!" said Sunny.”
Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

“It is very useful, when one is young, to learn the difference between "literally" and "figuratively." If something happens literally, it actually happens; if something happens figuratively, it feels like it is happening.

If you are literally jumping for joy, for instance, it means you are leaping in the air because you are very happy. If you are figuratively jumping for joy, it means you are so happy that you could jump for joy, but are saving your energy for other matters.”
Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

“The book was long, and difficult to read, and Klaus became more and more tired as the night wore on. Occasionally his eyes would close. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over. He found himself reading the same sentence over and over.”
Lemony Snicket , The Bad Beginning

“There are two types of panicking: standing still and not saying a word, and leaping all over the place babbling anything that comes into your head.”
Lemony Snicket, The Reptile Room

“Count Olaf sounds like an awful person. I hope he is torn apart by wild animals someday. Wouldn't that be satisfying?”
Lemony Snicket, The Reptile Room
