Basic Guide to Mermaid Reproduction or How to Have Sex with Mermaids
People keep asking me how mermaids manage sex, so I’ve written a really basic summary for those who are curious. If you’re after detailed descriptions of real mermaid sex…there are some in Ocean’s Gift and Ocean’s Infiltrator. I must admit, there is more story than sex to both books, though, so if you’re after mermaid erotica, try searching it on Amazon. The girls of the Ocean’s Gift don’t bother with BDSM – they just call sharks and dispose of him.
For the blokes they choose not to dispose of (or at least, not ’til afterwards), a siren is quite a catch.
Mermaids are closely related to humans – so close that the two can interbreed. Mermaids, by definition, are female, so breeding became a little difficult after conflict with humans wiped out all the males. Humans called them dragons, but to the mermaids, they were all the people of the ocean’s gift.
The Little Sea-Maid, as written by Hans Christian Anderson, is fiction. Mermaids, like dragons, can shift their skin to cover more or less of their legs (and what lies between them) and change the colour accordingly. Like hair, eye and skin colour, a mermaid’s tail colour is determined by genetics. She can close her gills to appear human, when she breathes air on land.
Now, having chosen to permit her tail to part, her gills to close and her skin colour to normalise, a mermaid looks like any normal human – with a distinct curve as she needs to store fat reserves for cold water swimming.
Essentially, she is as capable as any human woman, though with her high level of fitness and flexibility from swimming all her life, perhaps a little more capable and with more stamina.
An observer remarked on the transition from legs to tail:
“She placed her heels together and gave a flick with her feet. The movement rippled up her body, before she did it again. It looked like her skin was darkening, or was it just the waves washing over her? Another flick, her feet rising out of the water this time, and I saw the blue wasn’t just the water. It was like the skin of her legs had grown together, extending over her feet into curved flukes, as blue as the water. It blended seamlessly up her body, though her torso remained pale.
“She turned on her side, her eyes curious. In the skin along her ribs, I saw dark lines that looked like gills. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She’d never looked less human.” – Ocean’s Infiltrator
If you want more information or more detail, I highly recommend reading my Ocean’s Gift series. In addition, the R-rated cut scenes from Ocean’s Gift are on Wattpad.

The Sexiest Tree in the World – in the raw!
Can you name the world’s sexiest tree?
I’ll give you some clues.
1. It’s a Western Australian native tree.
2. Belinda describes Aidan as one in Water and Fire.
Still lost?
That’s okay. I even photographed it and created a video on it, in its natural state, no less. After all, it’s the world’s sexiest tree!
Want to know more?
You can get up close and personal with Aidan in August. Water and Fire will be released on the 1 August 2013.

Rats!
Charles Darwin never made it to the Abrolhos. He left the Beagle to go write some books about coral reefs, evolution and the origin of species. So it was John Lort Stokes in the HMS Beagle who made the initial survey of Rat Island in 1840. His notes are quite descriptive:
“As we threaded our way among the patches of coral, the view from the masthead of the submarine forests through the still pellucid water was very striking. The dark blue of the deep portions of the lagoon contrasted beautifully with the various patches of light colours interspersed.
The centre island we named Rat Island, from the quantity of that vermin with which it was infested. We also saw here a few seals, and numbers of a very pretty lizard with its tail covered in spines…”
Joe Fisher is hardly the first bloke to go visit the Abrolhos or even Rat Island for a holiday. In the 1930s, Rat Island was considered a holiday resort.
In the Geraldton Guardian and Express Saturday 26 February 1938:
“Further testimony to the attractions of the Abrolhos Islands as a holiday resort was made last week by two young city men, who had spent a week on the islands. Both were loud in their praises of the islands and expressed appreciation of the recreation to be had there in fishing and swimming, and of the wonders of bird life and the coral formations. The latter, they described as marvellous. Thanks to the skipper the trip had been splendid. Rat Island was used as a base, from where they spent a good deal of time in cruising round the islands…”
It’s also the island where you can see Giuseppe’s grave. Giuseppe drowned in mysterious circumstances after the Columbia sank in February, 1921.

Giuseppe’s grave: the final resting place of Vanessa’s first love
The island was infested with rats, but they have since been eradicated, and the birds have moved back in force. At last count, I think there were at least 100,000 seabirds on Rat Island. From little peeping terns right up to soaring sea-eagles.
Rat Island is home to a number of rock lobster fishers like Skipper, Joe and Vanessa from Ocean’s Gift. There are around thirty fishing camps and a research station on Rat Island, too.
There are a couple of little beaches, but you’ll be sharing them with a sleepy sea lion or two.
It has one of only three airstrips on the 122 islands at the Houtman Abrolhos, but the air strip is at the southern end of the island near the water, so landing always feels like you’re about to go for a swim.

Sirens Versus Sharks – Who’s More Dangerous?
Which do YOU think is more dangerous – a siren or a shark?
Most people would probably say sharks. I mean, there’s the teeth, the sheer size of a shark…as well as the uncertainty as to whether sirens or mermaids exist.
The sirens in the Ocean’s Gift series can live in water or on land, their song capable of controlling both humans and animals. Including sharks.
A recurring theme in the Ocean’s Gift series, sharks play a significant part in the story. Dangerous, yes, but useful, too, as the sirens show.
Of course, mermaids aren’t real. And they’ll kill me if I tell you otherwise.

Joe Fisher – top bloke, good sparky, nice arse…what?
Joe Fisher from the Ocean’s Gift series is a top bloke, a good electrician and he’s good looking, too, according to the mermaids.
“I didn’t say he had a cute bum, Belinda. I would say he has a damn fine arse.”
- Vanessa, Ocean’s Gift.
Joe’s down to earth and dependable, no matter what part of him the mermaids are perving at. You see it most in his thoughts and his conversations – like when he and his mate Dean are discussing their holiday plans. Dean’s planning on partying, but Joe’s going to take on extra work.
Joe’s no expert at fishing, either. It’s one thing to hold a baited fishing rod, another to go fishing commercially for lobster. And he learns the difference pretty quickly.
I guess what I like most about him is that no matter how hard it gets, he still manages to enjoy it – working hard to be good at his job and taking the time to help his next door neighbour, Vanessa.
Of course, he’s too busy admiring her boobs to realise that she’s not human. He’s the sort of bloke who tends to get along with everyone, which is why I think people like him so much.
You tell me – why is Joe Fisher so attractive?

Water and Fire – For Adults Only
In October 2012, I wrote a short story called Water and Fire. Short and sweet, some of my fans and followers asked me about some of the gaps in the story – will I ever fill them, with the “adults-only” content that I couldn’t write into a PG-rated short story?
Today, the answer is yes.
I am currently working with Water and Fire, and its main characters, Belinda and Aidan, to turn a short story into a novella. No longer PG, this will be the full story of what happened between a student midwife and an Irish intern, amid dangerous local wildlife and the seductive local whiskey.
In its raw stages of writing, I can only give you a taster – the cover, as posted above, along with the original PG short story on Wattpad.

Cursed with Murder, Mutiny and Lust – Batavia Shipwreck
“The Abrolhos is cursed, with murder, mutiny and lust. On a stormy night almost 400 years ago, the Dutch ship Batavia was sailing from the Cape of Good Hope to Batavia in Indonesia. The lookout saw what he thought was moonlight on the water, but it was foam from the breakers on Morning Reef.”
This is a background video for Ocean’s Gift, a story which takes place at the Abrolhos in modern times. Why didn’t I put more of the Batavia story in Ocean’s Gift? Main character Joe Fisher, pure and simple. He was more worried about his possible next door neighbour than a historic shipwreck. Of course, he doesn’t know that he’ll be living next door to Vanessa, nor that wrecking a boat at the Abrolhos is easier than he thinks…

Our Cursed Island Home – the Houtman Abrolhos Islands
“Welcome to the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, girls. They may be cursed, but for a time they will also be home.” – Sirena, Ocean’s Gift
Fractured moonlight on the water was the only sign of the reefs on the surface, part of the islands’ curse. Amid all the contrasts, this remained unchanged. – Sirena, Ocean’s Gift
122 islands formed from the shallow coral reefs that are some of the furthest from the Equator anywhere in the world. They’re more than 60 km off the coast of Western Australia, so you don’t often see them from the mainland.
Home to millions of sea birds and some amazing fish, as well as land species found nowhere else in the world, the girls of the Ocean’s Gift picked a pretty special place to come ashore.

Eight Free Novels
Eight Wattpad authors have combined forces to offer eight ebooks FOR FREE this weekend until the 20th May 2013. As I’m one of them, I thought you’d like to know the details.
I’m offering free copies of Ocean’s Gift.
Ocean’s Gift by Demelza Carlton
You’ll never look at mermaids the same way again.
Three sexy mermaids swim ashore to pick humans’ brains and indulge their taste for chilli, chocolate and ice cream. They encounter Joe, a fisherman with an eye for nice boobs and quite a handy man to have around when the lights go out. He’ll fix your generator and have the lights back on in no time, no worries.
Just as long as the dolphins don’t get him first.
A story about fishing, lobsters, beer and boobs, on some cursed islands off the West Australian coast. At least that’s how Joe tells it.
For the mermaids, it’s a slightly different story.
Callie – An Enchantress Novel by J T Chapman
There hasn’t been one like her for 1500 years.
For Callie it’s survival. For everyone else it’s love at first bite. Callie is accidentally stabbed and turned into something she thought was myth and a figment of an overactive imagination.
Join her in her fight to save her new soul mate and the new society she has become part of from demons and a master vampire intent on controlling her. With a little help from a few witches, shape shifters and a bit of luck can she actually get a little normality in her ‘un-life’?
Everybody loves her. They just can’t help themselves. A dark beginning leads into a new twist on the vampire genre. This is not a romance but a young girl’s survival.

A Gift In The Dark by Gavin Wilson – Free code: LM39T
Recipient of an Honourable Mention from Writers of the Future, published in 2012 by Interstellar Fiction Magazine, Five Stop Story, and Spinetinglers; Gavin has also been featured by Paragraph Planet and Strictly Writing, and is a recommended read on both Project Fiction and Wattpad websites.
A Gift in the Dark is Gavin’s first collection of his shorter works. This collection is predominantly of an urban dark fantasy theme, but traverses the boundaries of horror, myth, fantasy and legend. Heavily influenced by Cornish mythology the collected works are interspersed with oddity, the occasional drabble and bits left over from the darker recesses of his brain, culminating in a dark horror charting the rise of the four horsemen.
A lifelong reader of virtually anything that passed the end of his nose (including cereal boxes) Gavin grew up in the rural southwest of England surrounded by fields, sky and the occasional whiff of pig farm. He now lives in Devon with his long suffering wife and four children, and beats up rocks for a living when not incessantly tapping away in the corner.

Best Fishing of Your Life…
“I got a cousin who does some charter fishing out at the Abrolhos. Best fishing of your life, mate. I’ll give him a call, see if I can set you up.” – Dean, Ocean’s Gift
Charter fishing is when you charter a boat and go fishing on it. They provide the gear and the bait; clean, gut and fillet the fish – plus they help you take photos of you and your catch. No wonder it’s a pretty popular activity in Western Australia – and have you seen the fish?
There’s sharks that you’re not allowed to catch, but no one told them they can’t eat us.
There are pink snapper.
There’s a fish with fangs called a baldchin groper – but he’s delicious if you can catch him.
There are samsonfish – huge things that’ll eat your lunch if you drop it over the side. They took off with my chicken wrap once – faster than seagulls, those things.
“A week on a free fishing charter and possibly getting paid to fish for weeks after it. What’s the worst that can happen?” – Joe, Ocean’s Gift
