Here's a little more info too, if you need it: Nickolas Benedetti is a Dream Weaver - an ancient, arcane and almost immortal race, descended from angels, with the power to command memories and dreams. But, can he save her from the living, breathing nightmares that have followed him to her doorstep?
In ROCK STAR Emari lives the dream of being a rock star in an elaborate memory weave created by Dream Weaver Sabre James; and faces her own mortality at the hands of Sabre's longtime nemesis bent on vengeance for the death of his beloved sister. WHO'S YOUR TOP REFERRING SITE?
Happy Fall, Everyone! I know I said that last time, but I am still, and hope to always be, fascinated with the beauty of Autumn. I ask myself how I can paint a picture of words to describe the colors, the weather, the starkness that heralds winter. Because, isn't that the job of a writer? To paint a picture with words? And sometimes, I have to wonder if Fall appeals to my dark side as trees and flowers turn skeletal and dark. Any of you got any great word pictures of Fall? We'd love to hear them! Leave a comment below.
This Week's Guest
Close to 2 years ago, I posted an interview on Dayna L Cheser's blog, and to this day, that site is my biggest referral site here to Dream Weaver Novels on Blogger. I messaged Dayna to say 'thanks' and we struck up a convo and I decided to introduce her to my readers. Fair warning! This interview is chock full of pics and links to great sites. So, here she is....
INTERVIEW WITH DAYNA LEIGH CHESER
Dayna Leigh Cheser hails from a family of writers; her mother, a non-fiction writer, and her brothers, a newspaperman, and a copywriter. While she has many passions, her first love has always been books, which evolved into writing. Much of her young life was spent in the town library, and her parents despaired her being an under-the-covers-at-night-with-a-flashlight reader.
A casual writer since childhood, it wasn’t until 2002 that she was driven to finally write a book. On a ‘graveyard shift’ shift for eighteen months, she had the time to write for several hours every night. The result was her first book. Today, with three books published and two more in the series due out soon, she’s busy all the time.
Hi Dayna! Welcome to Dream Weaver Novels!
I’m so happy to be here, thanks for inviting me.
Tell us about your books.
I have 5 books – 3 are published and the other 2 are WIPs (that's Work In Progress). Janelle’s Time, published in 2012, is the story of Janelle, a young woman in south-central New Hampshire in 1830, who loses her father in a logging accident, and gains a suitor in rapid succession. It’s the story of their courtship and eventual marriage – but with a host of problems dogging them every step of the way. From a devastating family secret, to kidnapping and murder attempts, to amnesia, and questioned parentage, it doesn’t look good for the survival of their relationship.(Warning: ‘hot’)
Moria’s Time, published in 2013, is the story of one of Richard and Janelle’s twin daughters, a child, the subject of a vision, will travel far, to a dangerous place and do amazing things. In the end, she lives the vision, and finds a great love along the way.
I also introduced 5 real-life historical characters. Four of the 5 had to be in London at the same time to interact with Moria and her family. Moria’s twin, Adelle, shares the book as they shared their childhood. As a child, Adelle was a real challenge to Richard and Janelle. Adelle’s Time, published in 2014, is the story of Moria’s twin from the time, as young adults, when their life’s paths diverged. A horrible child, Adelle grew into herself when punished for misdeeds by working in a local orphanage. In time, she became as wonderful a person in her own right as her younger sister. Married in a double wedding to their respective spouses, Moria and Adelle make an impact on the lives of many people, in very different ways. Logan’s Time, not published yet, is a spinoff of Janelle’s Time. In book 1, Logan crashes Richard and Janelle’s wedding with revenge on his mind for a perceived wrong, but ends up a husband himself. I don’t yet know how it ends. Clarissa’s Time, not published yet, is the story of Logan’s oldest daughter, Clarissa, and Janelle’s oldest son, Damian Gerard, who marry in Scotland. Damian Gerard, is an Army officer, stationed in Washington, DC. Clarissa willingly gives up her Scots peerage and moves to America. As with Logan’s Time, I don’t yet know how it all ends.
Note: FREE CHAPTERS for all 5 books, including the two that haven’t been published yet, are available on my site. Click on CHAPTERS and have a ball!Who are your favorite authors/books?
The ones who have influenced my writing the most (and are my favorites) are Bertrice Small (any of her books, but especially the Skye O’Malley series), Lynn Kurland(time-travel romance), early Karen Marie Moning (time travel romance), Jean Auel (the concept of the alpha-female), and others. I’ve read many, many other fine authors over the years - and a few duds. I’ll read almost anything...but I’m really not keen on horror.
What was one of the most surprising/important things you learned while writing your books?
Even as a child, I dreamed of being a published author, but I never knew that it wasn’t just sitting down and writing a book. There’s so much more to the process. My decision to actually write was many years in the making. Then, I wrote a book and shelved it – for many more years. It wasn’t until I retired that I got serious about being a published writer.
What was a surprise was that the actual writing is almost a minor part of it. There’s all the research (which I enjoy), there’s working with the editor (which I also enjoy – go figure!), there’s the publishing (which in my case is assisted self-publishing), and, last but not least, there’s the dreaded marketing – doing whatever I can to get the word out – on a retiree’s limited income. As a hearing-impaired introvert, this part of publishing is difficult for me.
I know you use a pen name, why did you chose to use it? And how did you decide what name to use?
I’m asked this question often. In my case, it’s not a vanity or privacy thing. My real name – Julie Jordan – is also the name of the main character in the Broadway play, Carousel. That means the potential for a trademark/copyright lawsuit would always be hanging over my head, if not with the current owners, then possibly with heirs down the road, so I proactively decided to use a pen name. Before I made the final decision, I googled my choice - ‘Dayna Leigh Cheser’ - and came up with nothing, which is exactly what I wanted! Now, if someone googles my name to test it for herself, however unlikely, she’ll opt for another name. The name itself is simply a pair of common names – Dana and Lee – with alternate spellings – Dayna Leigh. The Cheser was the result of several hours on the US Census Bureau website, looking for a name near the beginning of the alphabet, short and simple, and not heavily used.
My goodness! You put a lot of work into deciding your pen name. I just used my nickname (Su, without an 'E', because why would you add an 'E' when there isn't one in Susan?) and my maiden name. My husband and I aren't attached to his last name...it's an adopted name. So he writes under his former/birth name, Goodwin. And I write under my maiden name, Williams. Any suggestions for beginning writers?
Two things come to mind.
1) Patience. Writing a book takes time. Some writers can crank out multiple books per year but to do it right (and still have a life away from writing), it will take the better part of a year – or maybe even longer – to publish a book. A notable extreme is Author Jean Auel (The Clan of the Cave Bear series). Her
6 books took her 30 years or so to produce because of her research. She went on archeological digs in Eastern Europe and France, and spent months living the way Ayla lived. The result is a wonderful, fictional study on life in Europe in prehistoric times. Oh dear! I may have to read these, now! Few writers can produce a quality book by sitting down before lunch to write it and publishing it before bedtime! Patience is a virtue in life, but especially in the life of a writer.
I completely agree. I believe if an indie author wants to birth a book into the world, they should go through the full gestation and labor process before they do.
2) After editing, set the completed book aside for a while. Then, after a couple of weeks or more, use a reading program (I use TextAloud) where the computer reads the book to you. Listen carefully to the book. I guarantee you will make lots of corrections and changes. You can read it to yourself, but after about 75,000 words, your voice will give out!
I read that advice in Elizabeth Lyon's Manuscript Makeover, too...er, at least I think it was her book. At any rate, it's an AWESOME book for editing. A writer can learn a lot by simply recording their manuscript aloud and listening to it. If it sounds jerky and uncomfortable to listen to, it's going to read that way too.So, what's your next big thing?
After a 4-month hiatus (my husband and I moved from Naples to Lake Placid, FL, and then I had to catch up), I’m now back to work on book 4 of my series – Logan’s Time. This is the story of Logan Conor, the Scots Duke of Muileach, which starts 30 years beforeJanelle’s Time (book 1). It’s a spinoff, rather than a sequel. I’d worked on this book sporadically over the past 3 years, but there are a lot of changes and improvements I want to incorporate so it will take a while to complete. I’m hoping to publish in the spring of 2015. After that, book 5, Clarissa’s Time, will finish the series. It’s going to be hard to say good-bye to this cast of characters many of whom entered my life over 10 years ago. I expect I’ll feel a big loss for a while. So. I’ll get busy on my next project.
I like to keep interviews short, and add some fun at the end!
What are your hobbies?
Other than writing, I’m an avid reader. I enjoy sewing (I just finished the curtains and dinette seat covers for a motor home we’re restoring and selling), other crafts, cooking … if it sounds like I’m a typical 50s or 60s housewife, that’s right!
On the flip side, I’m the webmaster of a 36 page website, DaynaLCheser.com, which has been a challenge that I really have enjoyed. On my website, which I created in September of 2012, after 2 years running ‘A Place for Writers’, visitors will find my blog, ‘Posts by Dayna’, plus, I now have 3 sets of questions for people to do their own author interviews. When they hit submit, the interview comes to me via email and I create a blog post of it. And, I have a brand new feature – “Reviews by Dayna". I had avoided doing reviews because of nightmares about school book reports, but I’ve finally capitulated and have started doing reviews.
I also like hanging out on the computer – making friends on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere, and keeping in touch with friends and family on email. I recently upgraded to an iPhone so I’m having fun learning the ins and outs of that, as well as reading on that and my Kindle. In short, I’m busier now than I ever was when I was working. LOL
If you just won the multi-million dollar lottery, what's the first thing you would buy?
I’ve never had a lot of money, and I’ve read the horror stories about folks who win the lottery and, in a few short years, file for bankruptcy. As a winner, I’d make sure we had enough to enjoy our retirement, and share some with our families, but the bulk of it would go into a foundation where we can help other people. I’d like to encourage reading in some way, so I’d likely partner with publishers to provide books to schools and libraries for free, or maybe build libraries in poor countries and provide reading teachers. Of course, it would depend on how much I won … and, of course, I’d have to actually buy lottery tickets in order to have a chance at winning.
Tell us something weird or quirky about yourself. And what absolutely drives you nuts?
At the risk of starting a war on your site, I have to say that the politics in this country really gets to me. I’m a firm believer that everyone should be involved in, and be informed about, what’s going on in our country politically. Too many politicians are getting away with too much and it’s hurting the country and the people. There are times when I just want to knock some heads (not that I ever would – that’s not me).
It’s us – ‘
We the People’
– who are the government, not the people in Congress. The President and Congress are there because we put them there and they work for us! They are supposed to do what we want, not what’s best for them, personally, or their buddies! Too many people don’t know who their representatives are in the House or the Senate. Too many people have no idea what’s going on in the country.
And, too many people don’t vote!
Oh, sister! Shout it!
Just for fun…I'm doing some research for my next book...a devolution zombie story. So, if you survived the zombie apocalypse, what one thing would you miss the most?
If the TV show, ‘TheWalking Dead’ is anything at all what life would be like after a zombie apocalypse, well, I can safely say I’d miss just about everything, including personal safety. I’d really not want to be someone’s lunch, and/or inflict any harm, thank you very much.
But, personally, what would I miss the most … one single thing? Electricity. With that, so many things are possible – without it …
Thank you for visiting us here on Dream Weaver Novels.
You’re very welcome. It’s been a lot of fun.

WHAT'S UP WITH THE MOON?
A halo around the sunHAPPY FALL!!!Greetings everyone! I hope this lovely Fall weather finds you all well and happy! Just took a trip to our cabin on the Pend O'rielle River in NE Washington...the state. I got a lot of great shots, so I'll post a few here.
Remember to check out the Rafflecopter giveaway to the right. It's over in 5 more days, so enter to win and please share the info with your posse.
Now, down to business. This week's guest is young lady I stumbled upon a few months ago. She's very poetic...lyrical almost in the way she writes and I was drawn to her and had to read more of her work. And of course, I had to share her with you. So, without further ado...I present:
Miss Taylor EatonHi Taylor! And welcome to Dream Weaver Novels on Blogger! I always like for readers to get to know you a little bit, so can you start with a little info on yourself, please?- Hi Su! Thanks for having me! I'm from Southern California; I like the color green; have a fascination with the stars (but not enough to take an astronomy course); and love to write. I mainly write flash fiction (stories under 1,000 words), but also dabble in longer form fiction, poetry, and non-fiction blogging (geared toward helping other writers).
I haven't really mentioned it much here, but I'm putting together a sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal anthology with writers from around the world that will be released in late December. And! Taylor is one of our newest contributors. So Taylor, I've read your 'The Suicide of the Moon & other stories', but tell my readers about your books. -
The Suicide of the Moon & Other Stories
is my debut book. It's a collection of flash fiction (very short stories), all centered around the theme of the moon. The stories range from fantasy to sci-fi to literary, but all about the moon. And all are short and sweet. Other than that, I post free short fiction bi-weekly to my site, Little Write Lies (www.littlewritelies.com).
What was one of the most surprising/important things you learned while writing your books? - I learned that it's important to be engaged in the subject you're writing about. That's probably the most important thing. I'd tried to write books in the past for the sake of writing a book. But with The Suicide of the Moon, I couldn't get enough of writing about the moon. That made the entire process far easier (and more enjoyable)! Any suggestions for beginning writers? - Write, write, write. Write every day. Write when you're sick, or tired, or busy, or drunk, or in love. Write even when you can't think of anything to write. Write as much as you can, because that's the fastest way to get better.
Who are your favorite/most inspirational authors/books? - My favorite book of all time is "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I've read it in all the languages I've studied (not to mention the 20+ times I've read it in English). It's a wonderful piece of philosophy disguised as a children's book. It's definitely served as a huge inspiration for me over the years. What's your next big thing? - I'm planning a full-length novel. It's still preliminary - no full manuscript yet, but I'm so excited to do something that's different from flash fiction.
Any indie authors you'd like to give a shout out to? - Yes! I'd love to give a shout out to Skye Fairwin and Cristina Guarino. They co-founded a site with me called The Sprint Shack (www.sprintshack.wordpress.com) in order to help other writers write frequently. Both Skye and Cristina blog and write fiction, but they were also beta-readers for The Suicide of the Moon - the book just wouldn't have been as good without their feedback!
The post I linked Cristina Guarino with is a post on NaNoWriMo. If you haven't heard of it...where have you been?! Seriously though, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, and every November, writers from around the globe commit to writing 50,000 words in 30 days. And believe me, it is a commitment. I wrote most of Rock Star during the NaNo of 2012. It was a great head start. If you're a writer, consider joining the fun. And, they have great prizes for completing (winning) the challenge...like 5 paperback copies of one your books from CreateSpace! Here's the link if you want to know more. National Novel Writing Month
Back to Taylor. I like to keep interviews short, and add some fun at the end! So tell us, what are your hobbies? - Writing and reading, dancing, yoga, video games, and wine (that can be a hobby, right?).
Definitely! Wine can absolutely be a hobby! Can you describe what it's like to be a writer in three words.- Shhh. I'm writing.
If you just won the multi-million dollar lottery, what's the first thing you would buy? - A year long vacation around the world. I love traveling but don't have enough time or means to go everywhere!
That sounds lovely! I'd love to visit Greece. It just looked so pretty in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie.
Tell us something weird or quirky about yourself. And what absolutely drives you nuts? - I like nerdy sci-fi television (Doctor Who is currently my favorite show), but I also like embarrassing reality TV shows (when is the next season of the Bachelor on?). Oh, and I can't stand it when people don't put anything in the subject line of an email.
LOL! Just to yank her chain, I sent Taylor an email without a subject line. I just couldn't help myself! My daughter would love you. She's a huge Doctor Who fan, as well.
Okay, last but not least, I'm doing some research for my next book...a devolution zombie story. So, if you survived the zombie apocalypse, what one thing would you miss the most? - Contact lenses. I'd eventually run out and have to wear my huge glasses all the time. And knowing me, I'd break those in about a week.
Kinda the Murphy's Law thing going on there. You'd definitely need your glasses to see the zoms you're fighting! Taylor, thank you for visiting us here on Dream Weaver Novels. -Thanks for having me! :)
It is always my pleasure to host indie authors here on my blog. Many have become good friends, advisers and fellow-trouble-makers (you know who you are!)
And thank you to all of you who stopped by again to visit. I hope you enjoyed this interview with Taylor Eaton. If so, leave her comment below. And if you think of something you would miss during the zombie apocalypse, let me know in the comments below also. Here's how you can reach Taylor:Twitter: @tayloreaton

PROMO SMASH SUCCESS!!!
OK, SO THE PROMO'S ENDED...
And it was a smash success! Combined, all of the Dream Weaver Novels and the Tears of Adamas short story garnered 9,065 downloads over the 5 day promotion! I wanted 10,000. But, I certainly can't cry over numbers like that! And even better, the books were downloaded in countries, like Denmark and Japan, where they've never been downloaded before! Yay! A new audience! And, Tears of Adamas received its first two reviews. Both 5 stars!...Have you had enough of my exclamation points yet? Sorry. I'm just excited!!! OK, I think I'm done now...maybe.
Reminds me of my girl Kandy Kay!
Damn! That's hella-cold!
Any herpetologists out there?
IF YOU MISSED IT...
So, let's say you were in Antarctica or Siberia or the sweltering Rain Forest, and didn't have access to wi-fi last week, and you totally missed the free promo. No worries. I've kept the price on the books at the sale price of 99 cents each. That's not a bad price for 5 star, award winning books, is it?Here's the links...just in case: DREAM WEAVERROCK STAR BREAKING NORMAL TEARS OF ADAMAS
ALRIGHT! ENOUGH ABOUT ME...
This is supposed to be the place where you get to meet some great authors, and I've been blah blah blahing about myself and my books. So it's about time to get back to the author interviews, right? Well, I've got a couple of good ones coming your way. Stay tuned for interrogations....I mean, interviews with Dayna L Cheser, and Taylor Eaton...to name a couple.
What a cutie!
TAYLOR EATON
I happened on Taylor on a friend's blog and read a short story she wrote. The tale had a very ethereal feel to it, and I really enjoyed it, so I contacted her. I get emails about free and budget ebooks and followed the link to her 'Suicide of the Moon' and other short stories, and purchased the book not realizing it was her. So I was excited when I realized she was someone I'd already been in contact with.
Isn't she adorable!
DAYNA L CHESER
Now, Dayna L Cheser has self-serve author interviews that she posts on her blog and I did an interview with her over a year ago. Each day, I get stats on this blog, one being a 'referring site' list. And Dayna's site is almost always at the top of the list, and most of time she's my biggest referring site. As a matter of fact, just now when I went to download her pic from her site, I saw my own face in her carousel of authors right on the home page! I wrote her a quick thank you and asked if I could feature her here.
So, do stay tuned. I will have more info on both Taylor and Dayna in the next few days.
Until then...

FREE PROMO FOR DREAM WEAVER?
Fall's a-Fallin'! Howdy ya'all! I hope your Fall is going well. I'd bet the trees back in the east of the US are starting to turn amazing colors. Not so much here in Spokane, WA. Just a little nip from old Jack Frost. Summer is my favorite season, and then Fall, because of the city turns all shades of red, gold, orange and brown. Reminded me of this: (excerpt from Dream Weaver)Trees wore shimmering nacreous cloaks that rivaled the grandeur of their summer dress greens and fall’s autumnal oranges, reds and yellows. Feel free to post your pics of fall in your neighborhood! I'd love to see them!!I do have some exciting news to share! For those of you haven't gotten a copy of my books for whatever reason, I'm offering the entire Dream Weaver Trilogy FREE on Amazon this week. That's right! All three books will cost a whopping $0! And, I've listed my short story Tears of Adamas for free as well. Here's a brief synopsis of each book:
DREAM WEAVER
Vampires sparkled through the spotlight; then the zombies shambled through. Now, it's time for a new immortal. Dream Weaver. Emari Sweet understands waking up in a cold sweat, heart pounding and screaming in fear. Night terrors plague her after the death of her parents, and she strives for control over the darkness that threatens to swallow her. But a monster lurks in the shadows, and his subtle hints of brutality explode in a violent attack. Emari is plunged back into the depths of fear. Nickolas Benedetti is a Dream Weaver…an ancient, arcane and almost immortal race descended from the biblical Nephilim with the power to command memories and dreams. Each night, her screams tear another piece of his heart and he plunges heart-first into Emari's tormented dreams to save her. But something dark and nefarious has followed him to her little cottage in the woods. His magic can save her from the night terrors, but does he have the power to protect her from the real, living, breathing nightmares that threaten to dismantle her sanity? Dream Weaver is a young adult (YA) paranormal fiction novel set in the snowy Pacific Northwest.
ROCK STAR Have you ever dreamed of being a rock star? Emari Sweet has...and now she's living the dream...the life of a rock star in an elaborate memory weave constructed by Dream Weaver, Sabre James. But her rock star world crashes around her and she returns to reality and the memories of Nick and his betrayal. Now, Nick seems to be hiding something dark and painful that torments his soul.Thomas, the Nightmare Wraith, returns to haunt their minds and twist their dreams. Even Eddyson, Em's trusty teddy-beagle pup can sense the Wraith's presence. And Thomas is not alone. He’s brought a friend with him this time....Emari faces her own mortality at the hands of Sabre's longtime nemesis bent on vengeance for the death of his beloved sister. Immortality and magic unearth treasures and secrets that some would rather keep buried. And the biggest secret of all could destroy everything.
BREAKING NORMAL The story of Dream Weavers Emari Sweet, Nickolas Benedetti and Sabre James brings the terror to a boil and spills over as their arch nemesis, Thomas, the Nightmare Wraith (Rephaim) drafts Em's friends, Jesse and Ivy into the feud, and lures her pup, Eddyson into peril. Since her parents were killed in a crash, the only thing Em has wanted is a ‘normal’ life, but the magic and mayhem of her new life has spiraled her entire world out of control. ‘Normal’ doesn’t even exist for her anymore. She struggles through the stages of grief, and her anger at Nick’s betrayal. Rage embitters her heart, and she’s not sure she will ever be able to trust this man she’s grown to love. Using her new Caphar gifts and her magical spider Ari, Em works with her friend/cop Molly and Spokane Police to solve cold cases, and memoryprint new ones. Emari hones her body and abilities to become a daunting challenger in the battle against the Wraith. But will Nick and Em's relationship survive his lies and her rage? And will any of them survive the nightmare of the Wraith? And finally...
TEARS OF ADAMAS
In Greek, Adamas means diamond, and so the main character of this short story fairytale is aptly named. Adamas weeps diamond tears. Enter the greedy prince of the province, Poneros. Poneros cares nothing for the girl, BUT he'd sure like to know how she got all of those diamonds. The prince will stop at nothing to possess her...lies, deceit and even murder. Because Tears of Adamas is a short story, I've included some fun facts about diamonds you might not have known before...and if you have any other fun facts, please feel free to add them to the comments on this post. There's also an excerpt from a short story anthology included.CAN YOU HELP?I know a lot of you who visit me each week have already read most if not all of my work. So, I'm asking you to help me spread the word about this promo. All the books will be free from Sept. 22 to Sept. 26. I would so appreciate your support! It only takes a moment to post this on your Facebook page and/or give it a tweet on Twitter, or give it a G+. Also, if you've read them, or you do read them, please, please, please leave a review on Amazon. A review is like gold to an indie author, and each one lends credibility for an author to Amazon. Then Amazon promotes the author too! LINKSEach of the books' headings are linked above to Amazon. But here are the links in case you missed them!DREAM WEAVERROCK STARBREAKING NORMALTEARS OF ADAMAS
Robots - 2005Ya know, I always sign off these posts with 'As always...Dare to Dream!' But you might not know why. I got started a little late in the writing game. I'm not ancient, by any means, but most authors start decades earlier than I did. When I started writing Dream Weaver, it was a whim. But the world of the Caphar and the Rephaim just kept building and expanding in my head. Nick's voice became a staple in my head...no not like a metal staple. And even though agents declined my queries, I pressed forward and continued to dream of getting my words, my stories in front of as many readers as possible. It is my firm belief that if you dream it, you can be it...yeah, I know, a line from Rocky Horror. But like the little robot in Disney's Robots, I believe 'A dream you don't fight for will haunt you for the rest of your life'...and I would add...'and become your worst nightmare.' I don't want to look back when I really am ancient and decrepit, and regret not following my dreams. And you shouldn't either. So that's why I sign off with the challenge...As always...Dare to Dream!Su

Lovecraftian SteamPunk Zoms?
From 5 Stars to Finalist to Winner!GREAT NEWS FOR DREAM WEAVER!!!Just a quick personal shout out before I introduce this week's guest. A while back, I entered Dream Weaver in the Readers' Favorite International Book Awards. In July, I discovered it was a finalist in the contest. Well, last night, I received an email from Readers' Favorite to come check out the winners list. Of course, I followed the link, and discovered that Dream Weaver took Bronze in the Young Adult Paranormal Fiction category. Woot woot!! So now it's official...Dream Weaver is now an award winning novel! Now, On With the Show...If I remember right, I discovered this week's visitor from a daily email I receive with free and discounted books. I began to read his novel 'Nightmare City' and really enjoyed his unique take on his characters. Nightmare City is very well written and action packed. So I hope after you've read his interview, you'll hop on over and get a copy of his book. But wait until after. I'm sure you'll want to meet Jack first. This is one of the most fun interviews I've done. So, let me introduce Jack Conner.
Jack, thanks so much for visiting Dream Weaver Novels on Blogger. I'm very excited to have you here. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m from Austin, Texas, a land of great Mexican food and plentiful sunshine, at the moment marooned in Corvallis, Oregon, a dream spot for many, but sadly lacking in sunshine and Mexican food. Luckily I’m moving back to Austin! Woo-hoo! I’ll be back in early October.
I’ve been writing since I was very young. For the last decade, I’ve actually been represented by one of the best literary agencies in America. They have clients whose works have inspired TV series (one of which just ended after six or seven seasons on HBO). So. Big time. So why haven’t they gotten me published? Well, they’re trying hard, but in the wake of Borders closing, Barnes and Noble has gotten super conservative about what books they’ll buy, especially in regards to fantasy and science fiction. Borders published all sorts of alternative, cool fantasy titles, allowing people like China Mieville and Jeff Vandermeer to launch their careers. After Borders closed, B & N pretty much stopped buying New Weird books from new writers. Books like Nightmare City, City of Shadows and others that I’ve written (and, damn it, continue to write!) just became next to impossible to sell.
So I’ve taken to self-publishing. I know the audience for those books is out there. I just need to find them. Do you like China Mieville but wish he were more, well, fun? Try me.
I really enjoyed Nightmare City. Where did the concept of the book come from?
The city of Lavorgna was inspired by a confluence of factors. Basically, I’d been writing medieval epic fantasy for years and was in the mood for something completely different. I decided to write about a more modern city (but not toomodern) with plenty of fantastical, even horror-ific touches. I decided to have mad scientists creating Frankenstein-monster-like creatures, as well as homunculi, etc., and that these would be common sights in Lavorgna. There are warring mob bosses, zeppelins and alchemy, so there is very much a strong dose of pulp in these tales, but played straight, no winking at the camera or any of that. Of course, one of the most major influences was H. P. Lovecraft. I’m a huge fan of the gentleman from Providence, and having Lovecraftian horrors dwelling below the city of Lavorgna seemed like a great way to explore some fun and creepy concepts. I see many stories inspired by Lovecraft, but few resonate with me. Most seem like pale pastiches, or, worse, jokey homages. One of the few writers/creators out there able to evoke the proper mood, for me, is Mike Mignola. His Hellboy-verse is drenched in Lovecraftian goodness, while at the same time being distinctly its own thing and full of action and fun. In my own way, that’s what I’ve tried to do with my Lavorgna books. Nightmare Cityis actually the second novel set in Lavorgna. City of Shadows is the first, and it’s bigger and more epic than Nightmare City, but just as much fun. I’ve also written a couple of novellas in that world. So what's next in this Post-Steampunk Lovecraft series? I adore Lavorgna and the world it’s set in and hope to write a great deal more about it. However . . .
Any other projects you'd like to share? . . . the world of Lavorgna inspired a very different, much bigger tale that has occupied a great deal of my attention of late. In both City of Shadows and Nightmare Citywe see the effects of a war that has ravaged the world, but we learn very little of that war. Well, I’ve always been curious about that conflict, and I pondered on it for a long time, and finally I set to writing. The story takes place in a different world than that of Lavorgna, but very similar, just . . . changed. Made alien. At the moment, I’m writing the fifth book in the series, and I plan to drop the whole thing like a bomb in December. It’s a tale of epic adventure and horror. Think Lord of the Rings meets Nightmare City. Does that sound grandiose? Well, okay, then imagine an epic, multi-volume tale of adventure in a strange, eerie world, a world that has been irrevocably altered by mysterious forces. Trust me, this series is awesome.
A Bit on Jack's Writing Processes I love how your brain works. Tell us more about you. How did you start your writing career? And what's the most important thing you think you've learned? I began writing my first novel when I was eleven years old, but I’d been writing even before that. Two things prompted me: 1) I’d just learned how the world worked, where money came from, and realized they expected me to get a job. A job! Filled with horror, I cast about for some other way to make money, and immediately hit on writing because 2) I’d been telling stories since I could think coherently (still something I’m hit or miss on), both to myself and to others. I love telling stories, and I have many to tell. Sometimes I wish I could clone myself so I could have my clones write the stories I don’t have time for. How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula? I’m usually inspired by a certain image or mood, either in things I write myself or from books I’m reading or movies I’m watching. Once I fall in love with an idea, I’ll play with it, sometimes for a long time, and I’m talking years, before I finally work out the plot and story mechanics enough for me to begin writing. Then, sometimes, I’ll have an idea one day and begin writing the next. That was the case for Nightmare City. The story coalesced all of a sudden in my head one night as I was going to bed, and the next morning I couldn’t wait to leap in front of my keyboard and start writing. Do you have any suggestions/advice for beginning writers?
The best advice I can give is twofold. One, write write write. Writing is a craft, and it takes practice. A lot of practice. Some say you don’t really learn how to write until after your first million words, and I have to say that holds true for me, pretty much. The second piece is: get feedback. Don’t trust your mom or sister or brother. If at all possible, find a writers’ critique group in your area, preferably one focused on your general genre, and go to every meeting. When I first joined the Slug Tribe in Austin, I was convinced the other writers would read my words and sit back in awe, then, very likely, begin bowing to me and calling me master. Instead, they cut my piece to ribbons. To this day they’ll tell you I went through a trial by fire. But that book (my epic fantasy War of the Black Tower: Part One) is now my best-seller . . . after massive revisions. All because I listened to their critiques, as well as others’. Is there someone special who helped or mentored you in your writing career? Oh, goodness. Well, first, my dad. He’s the one who started telling me stories at bedtime, inventing them off the top of his head, and then encouraging me to tell my own stories back to him. So he’s a huge factor in me being a writer. I think it would be fair to say I’d never have started this journey without him. Then, of course, the members of my writers critique group, the Slug Tribe, were instrumental in helping me up my game. Lastly, my agents (there are two of them, and I won’t use their names) have helped me lift my writing to a higher level still. They’ve taught me what it takes to be a commercial writer – or at least that’s the goal! J But I’d never be anywhere without the women in my life. My mother has always been encouraging (even if she hates fantasy, sci-fi and horror), and my wife has made it all possible by giving me the time to write, as well as the emotional support. Thank you, guys!
My dad's more of a storyteller now than he was when I was little. I love to sit and listen to him tell stories of his childhood. I've used some of them in my writing. We're always on the lookout for new authors to love. Are there any other indie authors that have caught your attention? Sadly, I’m so busy writing and promoting that I barely have enough time to dip into my (ridiculously large) library, composed of print books collected over many years of scouring used-book stores. I have almost no time for discovering new talents (and yes, I can see some irony there). Sigh. However, once I get my big series up in December, I should be able to sit back and rest a bit. Hopefully then I’ll be able to have time to find some fellow indies. Any suggestions?Well, Jack's opened up a can of worms. If anyone has some reading suggestions for Jack, please leave them in the comments...no shameless self promotion.
Back to the Show... How about a few fun questions...Who are your favorite authors/books? I adore TerryPratchett, George R. R. Martin, Dan Simmons, H. P. Lovecraft, J. R. R. Tolkien, Fritz Lieber, Scott Lynch,

Who would play you in a film of your life? George Clooney. Obviously. Or Owen Wilson. One of the two. Probably George. Yeah, definitely George.
Both good looking guys. Are you trying to tell us something?
What book are you reading now? Gary Jennings’s “Spangle”. I love Gary Jennings. If you want some dark, epic horror, that is at the same time a fantasy novel in its own way, read his “Aztec”. I still have nightmares about that one scene . . . the one with the lemur . . . (shudder)
Let's say one of your steampunk zoms shambles into the room you're in right now, look to your left and tell us what you have to defend yourself. I’m screwed, because the closest thing to my left is the “Spangle” paperback. Maybe the zombies like to read? I have a good reading voice. I open it and begin to speak, and they smile and nod and --- akejajejeeje --
Funny!! I've been waiting for this one to post on Facebook again so I can answer it...I keep 2 sai and a 5lb weight for just this occasion. LOL Is there anything else you want readers to know? A FINAL PUSH!
GOODREADS GIVEAWAY The Breaking Normal Goodreads Giveaway will end on August 31. So I wanted to give it another shout out if some of you haven't heard about it.BREAKING NORMAL GIVEAWAY
GREAT DEALS!As a relatively new indie author, my policy has been to offer my books at very low prices, because I believe, right now, I'm building a fan base rather than trying to make a million bucks. I like to make sure readers know about the great prices on my books. And that trend continues today. In celebration of the final Dream Weaver book, BREAKING NORMAL will be on sale for $2.99, AND both DREAM WEAVER & ROCK STAR are only $0.99 each. I don't price my books so low because I don't believe they're worth more. I price them this way to get them in as many hands as I can. I may not make a million this way, but people will start to know my name and the quality of books I release. So maybe the next one will sell a million!! Hey a girl can dream, right?
A NEW OLD-FASHION FAIRY TALE Keep your eyes out...that just sounds weird, doesn't it? I envision Blind Mag from Repo: The Genetic Opera as she plucks out her genetically perfect eyes that shoot out images while she sings....but I digress. Yes, so, keep an eye out for my new, old-fashion fairy tale inspired by Ellen Mae Franklin's The Unseen Promise. It's entitled Tears of Adamas, a tale of a young maiden who weeps diamonds, and the power of cruelty and compassion. Will post the link once it goes live. Here's the cover...UPCOMING INTERVIEWS With everyone on vacation this summer, I haven't been posting as many indie author interviews. But I do have a great list of folks I'd like to introduce to you. Upcoming interviews include:Ellen Mae Franklin

HAVE YOU GOT THE LOOK?
Flowers for Mom's birthday! She's Ba-ack!Well, that was a bit of a gap in posts! Sorry 'bout that. I'd fully intended to post a feature over a week ago about this great graphics site I discovered. But with all the prep for my daughter's cosplays for a local Con (KuroNekoCon & SpoCon), and the regular demands of life, I had to extend the launch of Breaking Normal by a week. Finally, I had to shut myself up in my room and insist on the time to finish the final edits and cover design. And, guess what? I actually made it! BREAKING NORMAL launched on August 6 (my mama's birthday!) I'll post pics of Sarah's cosplays at the end of the post. Let's get to this great site!
DOLLAR PHOTO CLUB!!!
So, cover design is always a challenge for me. I hired an artist (not a cover designer but an actual artist) last time, for Dream Weaver. And he did a beautiful job with the cover. But it just wasn't in the cards to hire him again for subsequent books. This story gets a little long and cumbersome, so suffice it to say, that I tried several avenues that just didn't pan out. So I was back on my own to design an appealing cover. And some more blah blah blah...then I discovered Dollar Photo Club and fell in love! I spent hours on the site exploring the images in their libraries. And at just $1 per image, it was a no brainer for me. I signed up (for $10 per month for 10 images), and began saving images to my galleries. I ran into a couple of snaffoos (purely of my own making), but tech support was there quickly to assist me. But I'll let Dollar Photo Club's own rep tell you more about it.
Dinah, thanks so much for all the great support with you and your staff. And for working with me on this feature of your awesome site! Here's the scoop, right from Dinah and Dollar Photo Club.

CAN I TOOT MY OWN HORN?
ALL THINGS DREAM WEAVER
Regular visitors here to Dream Weaver Novels on Blogger know I feature other indie authors each week. This is usually the place for that; I only yack on about me on my website (DreamWeaverNovels.com). But, every once in a while, it's fun to update you on the goings on with my own books. And this week has been an exciting week for Dream Weaver Novels!
FIRST!
Back in March, I submitted Rock Star to the review site, Reader's Favorite. The site offers free and low cost reviews for indie authors, best-selling authors and celeb authors. Finally, I got my review back from them this week, and I couldn't be happier with the rating and the review! ROCK STAR received the coveted 5 STAR review; and the review encouraged me more than I can tell you. Here's a little bit of what the reviewer had to say: Reviewed by Katelyn Hensel for Readers' Favorite
Rock Star is the second book in the Dream Weaver series by the talented Su Williams... The writing style was unique and different...It was both captivating and something that I haven't really experienced lately...I love the kind of pseudo-scientific supernatural quality that Williams employs regarding the manipulation of memories. There was an Inception-esque quality to the story, but enough unique ideas and cool thoughts that made it really shine on its own...Williams' writing style is a lot stronger than many in the YA genre so this was quite the pleasure to read. Here's the link if you'd like to read the entire review of Rock Star.
SECOND!
Back in May, I entered both Dream Weaver and Rock Star in the Reader's Favorite International Book Awards. The finalists were supposed to be announced July 1st, however, they received so many entries that they extended it to July 15th. So, I was super-excited to check my email on Tuesday. I told myself, 'Now don't be too disappointed if you didn't make it. The competition is really stiff.' So when I didn't find the email in my inbox I tried not to let it bug me. But just on a whim, I checked my Spam box. And lo and behold! there was the email with the link to the finalist list. With bated breath I followed the link and scrolled down to 'Young Adult Paranormal'...and what should be there but DREAM WEAVER! second on the list of six or so books!!!! Now, it's just hurry up and wait until September when they announce the winners. AND...I also found out both books have been added to the movie consideration list with Wind Dancer Films!
FINALLY!
With summer well underway, sales of both books have increased! It's not enough to retire on, but I cannot complain. And the final book of the Dream Weaver series, that is currently tentatively entitled Breaking Normal , is right on target for an end of July launch! It's in the hands of the beta readers at this point and the covers for both Rock Star and Breaking Normal are getting their polish on from Aussie friend Paul G Day. I'm posting the mock ups below, but don't count on it being the final product.
THANK YOU
I can't express enough how much it means to me that you've voiced your appreciation for my writing. And while my fan base is not astronomical, I cherish each of you who have read my books, left glowing reviews, posted and tweeted for me, and contacted me personally!!! You're the ones clamoring for more, and that has encouraged me more than anything.
Thank you also to the 700+ members of Author's Social Media Support Group and dozens of other authors around the world that have networked with me and taught me so much, especially in the last year. The indie author community is one of the most supportive groups I've ever met; and I hope some day I'll get to meet a few of you that I've grown close to. Special thanks to: Khalid Muhammad for all things geek-speak; Christoph Fischer for always having an encouraging word and posting pics of the cutest darn puppies!; James Moser for encouragement regarding the title of the final book and beta reading for me; Paul G Day for just being you and your help with the book covers; and Mark Wilson, also a beta reader and for helping me keep my head on straight in my last week's of panic in finishing this project. To Jenny Loveless, whose name does not represent you, and always being the one to keep things in perspective. Also to my family: Ben, Sarah, Josiah, Jack and Aundraic. And above everything, thank you to my beloved Mom & Dad, you're the best, my #1 supporters, and I love you dearly!!!
And thank you to all of you who stop by to say hi! I know I say that almost every post, but I really want you to know that it means a lot to me that you take the time to come and visit. Honestly, you could be out darning your socks or something, so I really appreciate it.
BREAKING NORMAL
Barring any unforeseen issues, the final book will be released by July 31st! Keep your fingers crossed or pray or think happy thoughts. Whatever it is that you do to make the magic happen. And as always...

Dare to Dream!

Do You Chase Your Dreams?
Chasing Prophecyby James Moser
Just a few weeks ago, I featured Jim Moser on this blog. Today, he is releasing that fantastic novel we were talking about!! And I wanted to give him a shout out of support.
CHASING PROPHECY ON AMAZON"A stellar read for teens and adults, full of hilarious growing pains, tenderness, and a few surprises. Moser offers an irresistible narrator in Mo Kirkland. Every page ripples with a controlled cleverness." --Kirkus Reviews
Mo is a boy just trying to survive high school in Boulder Creek, a mysterious town proud of its reputation as the "Bigfoot Sighting Capital of the World."
He secretly loves Prophecy, a girl living with a group that some call a commune and others call a cult. Mo soon learns that real monsters don't always hide in the woods. Sometimes they turn out to be people we've known all our lives.
Chasing Prophecy is a heartwarming coming of age story about a boy who risks everything for one chance to save the girl of his dreams.

Here's my review:
*****5 Stars for Chasing ProphecyI'm a little skittish when it comes to reading stories about Bigfoot...always thought it was a bit of bunk. But Moser writes a believable tale that isn't necessarily about Bigfoot. It's about some ordinary kids who have the misfortune of falling into trouble and the fortune of having a Sasquatch guardian. I was very impressed with this well-told story. It's basic framework is structured like To Kill A Mockingbird...a clever concept. Moser is a captivating story teller. Definitely a 5 star hit! Please show your support for this great indie author. Romance, Bigfoot, Suspense Fans will not be disappointed! Get your copy of James Moser's 'CHASING PROPHECY' today!!!
