I, Robot
My lady has a problem with decisions. She is not keen on making them. It exasperates me sometimes. Often. Even the simplest decision of today, which was whether we should leave the coffee shop and proceed with our next plan, or should we sit and read the newspapers for a little while longer.
She always tries to guess what I would prefer rather than deciding for herself.
"Oh, we'll go now if you want," she offered.
"I didn't say that's what I want."
"Well we'll stay then, if you want."
"I didn't say I wanted to stay."
"So what do you want?"
"I want you to tell me what you want to do."
She hesitated. Confused.
"Listen," I said, resolving to be helpful. "Imagine that I'm a robot. I have no real thoughts about anything. Now... what would you want to do?"
"Switch you off," she said.
