Usually forcing myself to do at least that primes the pump and I can focus on the story enough to put in my day's goal. But if I'm really blocked I let myself do something else... paint, play with play doh, sew, read, stare at the ocean... anything really, to give my creative child side a break. (less)

Unlock and Unblock: How to use the Tarot to enhance your storytelling (Nonfiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Jan 30, 2016 01:25PM
Description: No one knows where the original Tarot cards first appeared. By the late 18th century, they were used as a tool for divination and fortune-telling and are still in use today. In the 20th century, Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell both explained how the 22 trumps of the Major Arcana depict the "hero's journey" of the human psyche from innocence to wisdom. Rich in detail, imagery and symbolism, the tarot has always been for me a source of creativity and inspiration. But it wasn't until I started to put together a storytelling workshop that I realized how awkwardly the traditional interpretation of the Major Arcana fits the arc of most stories. And that's when I realized that - at least in terms of story - the Major Arcana works better if you read the cards backwards: not from The Fool to the World as is usually done, but from the World to the Fool. I invite you to join me as I explore this ancient modality in an innovative way to help you unlock the fullest potential of your stories and unblock your creativity...

“I kissed him until everything that hurt inside me melted into a pool of black water so deep I couldn’t touch the bottom. As long as I was touching him, I wouldn’t drown.”

H. Jackson Brown Jr.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
H. Jackson Brown Jr., P.S. I Love You

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Rob Siltanen
