AJ grew up in Boise, Idaho, catching grasshoppers and writing stories. Her biggest dream in the whole world was to be a writer.

Now she lives in Seattle with her husband, two children, two dogs, and a cat named Ish. Her favorite job (besides children’s author) was being a bookmobile librarian. AJ’s writing flame burns brightest when she works on picture books. She reads kid lit every day and dances every chance she gets.

She received a B.A. in journalism and women’s and gender studies from the University of Oregon.

When AJ’s not writing, she enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, and exploring the Emerald City with her family.

She is represented by Jordan Hamessley of New Leaf Literary.
