Aurelia B. Rowl writes sweet yet sexy contemporary romance stories, as well as young adult and new adult romances.

She lives on the edge of the Peak District in the UK with her very understanding husband and their two fantastic children. When she’s not writing, you’ll often find her curled up with a book or out running, making the most of the trails and fells surrounding her home or legging it around her local parkrun.

Too often lost in her own world, she has an alarm to remind her to collect her children from school and regularly wows her family with curious, hastily thrown together meals as a result of getting too caught up with her latest project… or five! She has also developed the fine art of ignoring the housework and makes an excellen

Hi Michelle, and thank you for the fantastic question.

As the first draft of Popping the Cherry progressed, I found myself more and more intrigued with Alice. Why was she so mean? What, or who, had made her that way? If she stayed on her current path, what would she become? Did she have any redeeming qualities? Could she be saved?

The title was actually the first thing that came to me…A Girl Called Malice…it had a certain ring to it and opened my mind to a plethora of possibilities. Alas, the story didn’t flow – not at all, since I struggled to connect with Alice – but the idea wouldn’t let me move on; Alice’s story had to be written, even if it broke me, which it very nearly did.

I hope that answers your question.

DELETED SCENE: 'Hangover' from A Girl Called Malice

Sometimes when you are preparing a story for publication, it becomes necessary to cut exchanges or entire scenes from books to improve the flow of a story. It's just the way it goes, and one of the many things that happen during various rounds of editing, but that's not to say it's easy. It can be heartbreaking when you have to bid good bye to a character, no matter how much sense it makes.

“Well that’s open to debate,’ he said. 'It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, and I hate the thought of you throwing yourself at guys just to try and get laid. Christ, I’d do you myself if I thought it would keep you safe.’

‘Now that’s true friendship,’ I said, cracking under the severity of his tone.”
Aurelia B. Rowl, Popping the Cherry

“In no mood for one of her silly games, I snatched it off her and scanned the page. It turned out to be a list of names, all of them boys, and some of whom I recognised. And then I noticed the title: ‘Operation: Popping the Cherry’. I leaped to my feet and fired a glare at each of them in turn, trying not to shout. ‘Are you shitting me?”
Aurelia B. Rowl, Popping the Cherry

“Quick, somebody call the caretaker!’ Gemma’s stage voice rang out loud and clear. ‘There’s some trash here that needs to be taken out.’ She earned a chorus of laughs as she walked towards us, then came to a standstill right beside me. ‘Christ, it reeks, too,’ she said, pinching her nose. ‘What did you do, Malice? Douse yourself in the whole bottle? Oh, never mind. I don’t expect you to have heard of the adage “less is more”.”

“Hell no," his voice came out much deeper than usual, and his head was scrambled, making him say what was really on his mind. "It's taking everything I've got not to brace you against a tree and have my wicked way with you.”

“Come on, T-Bird," he said, getting to his feet and reaching for her hand. He hoisted her up onto her feet whether she wanted him to or not. "Before we both end up with hypothermia."
"T-Bird?" She shot him with the eyebrow again. "So does that make you a Pink Lady?”

“Sweet, yet maddening, Kate yearned to take control and deepen the kiss, but he broke off every time she tried before catching her lower lip between his teeth as if to punish her. Their sharp edges sank into her swollen flesh without breaking the surface, his tongue immediately soothing any pain. The all-conquering, take-no-prisoners warrior had arrived.”

Glad you loved Dean! Have you discovered Jake in Popping the Cherry yet? Or Zac for that matter?

LOL

Seeing as I'm in YA mode, I'm going to (still cheat) and say Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Morganville, Twilight, and Vampire Academy/Bloodlines. I think. But House of Night, Hidden Gem, Witchblood and Peachville Demons are close. Um...that must be about 30 books o_O
