Contacted by slimy book marketing company. LEVEL COMPLETE!
I've no problem at all with for-hire services for author. In fact, I see no problem with hiring a PR or marketing firm to help with a self-published book. But certainly not the one that cold-called me moments ago.
When Google's auto suggest looks like this, I'm probably going to take a pass.
Don't get caught up in their pitch and let them waste your time. Or money!

A grocer in Germany is guiding shoppers experiences using ... lightbulbs?
Philips has invented a new bulb that uses non-visible light (which is produced anyhow) to interact with your phone. Coupled with an app, it can tell you exactly where to get the ingredients you need, and make relevant suggestions.
Of course, privacy concerns abound. But getting past that (it's all opt-in), I'm intrigued by the possibilities of a new location-based service offering that finds a use for "wasted" light. Smart!

Google goes real-time with comScore.
Google wants a better crack at the $300B brands spend on TV each year. Through a vCM partnership with comScore, they'll provide brand advertisers near real-time audience metrics.
But I'm not so sure that big-brand advertisers care about that. After all, the metrics of TV viewing are made up. So will getting information in minutes be that big of a factor for them? I'm skeptical.

Gotta admire the cajones cojones and the thinking that went into this. Getting your competition to advertise for you while they do their job? Fantastic.

I managed to say MOAR INTERNETS on TV!
I'm working on my 15 minutes of fame one 2:44 TV segment at a time. Thanks for having me again, +FOX 10 Phoenix!
→ Watch it: http://goo.gl/QqgV4r
Thanks to the lower third display for hiding the fact that my fly was totally open the entire time. Not at all surprised that +Jeff Moriarty didn't mention it to me before airtime.

Building a Google Nest out of Fiber.
Google has unveiled plans to explore rolling Google Fiber out to 34 cities across the states. It's a massive and expensive (in time and money) undertaking to run fiber to households, but Google has one of those in abundance. I'll let others get into the logistics and probability of such an effort, and instead go a little crazy with speculation.
I think this is part of their play to own the household. They bought Nest recently. Why not bake in a modem and super-fast wifi (that gets close to the 1Gbps range) and connect all your things, well beyond your computer, TV and mobile devices.
The promise of interactive homes is nothing new. But thus far, save a few enterprising startups, it's been more hype than reality. And the applications haven't been all that exciting. Who wants a text from their dishwasher when the load is done?
Instead, focus on possibilities when the #IoT is a real thing. When every device that runs on electricity in your house is connected to every other device? I'd call it a budding connectome, but I doubt it would give rise to consciousness.
(Well, not in one house. But an entire city? Now there's something to think about...)

Content as an energy source.
Radical filters are everywhere. Zite. Google. Feedly. They learn from what we like, helping filter out the noise from the signal. But they work only when they are fed a proper and balanced diet.
Cryptic enough for you? Yeah... me too.

He is a wise man. Here's proof from the recent excursion to San Francisco, for those who do not may not follow me on the 'gram.
(FYI: I'm at http://instagram.com/evoterra if you want to start, since I don't share them all -- or even most -- on Google+!)
