3 rules for mastering disruptive innovation.

If you have dreams of disrupting the market like Airbnb, Uber, or any number of other "new ways of doing old things" that are bursting at the seams, do your homework. And specifically, do these three things:

1. Mobile is an imperative, not an option. How much more data do you need to accept this as fact?
2. Make payment frictionless. Not an easy shopping cart. A frictionless one.
3. Own the first, second and third impression. No, a flashy logo won't do. Obsess over the UI/UX. Because perfection is the new norm.

Do those things well, and you may be able to play in the disruptive space.

(And yes, I realized I linked to a Techcrunch article. Maybe they've turned the corner, too?)

A few weeks ago, +Paul Blais invited me to be on his show, Doubt the Doubts. He plied me with a custom-crafted ceramic tulip glass (in route) and a promise to cover how I landed a keynote speaker spot at the upcoming Podcast Movement (http://podcastmovement.com) conference!

If you have a few moments to spare, give it a listen. And if you're also coming to to the conference in August, let's grab a beer and chat.

Here is a description of Paul's podcast, Doubt The Doubts:

When the voice of doubt silences the call of dreams, it's time to doubt the doubts. Rockstar entrepreneurs tell their amazing stories of success 7 days a week! Hearing from someone that has already gone down the road will help to you to say, "I can do it."

We don't need no stinking shopping cart!

Direct marketers often lament the challenge of converting social followers into real customers. One company, Chripify, solves that buy allowing social followers to purchase with a hashtag.

This new frictionless commerce technique works well with offline campaigns as well, and may be a great step in trying to quantify the impact of TV ads, billboards, and more.

Personally, if I never have to use a clunky shopping cart again, it'll be too soon!

Save a few strange people like +Sheila Dee, you'll see a bunch of Phoenix people walking around sniffing the air. It's blooming time for the citrus trees, and it smells great out there!

3 out of 4 dentists agree that beer fights cavities.

OK, not drinking beer itself. But early research shows that the leaves of the hop plant -- Humulus lupulus -- have properties that fight cavities and gum disease.

But don't start knocking back an extra brewski away to keep you out of the dentist chair. These "bracts" are discarded  before the hop flower is used in brewing and usually wind up in the trash or compost heap.

Still, I can't wait for some enterprising brewer like +Greg Koch to disrupt the toothpaste market!

(H/t +Betsy McCall for the original share!)

YourBrand.social is waiting.

Personally, I've been a little dubious on the value of the new gTLDs. I remember paying way too much for a .biz domain back in the day. I posited that new gTLDs would be less  of land rush for people and a giant boon for businesses -- but on the backend.

Perhaps I was wrong. Because I see great value in .social

Right now, when people want to engage with a brand on social channels (and they do -- a lot,) they immediately turn to their preferred social channels, which may not line up to the preferred social channel of the brand. That, and the search feature of most social sites (except Google+) are really pretty terrible. So you may not find the "right" social property you were looking for.

Think of the different experience of using BRAND.social. No need to search (if once this becomes widely accepted). Type. Enter. There you go. All the proper social channels, perhaps with aggregation of current content. No muss. No worrying (or less worrying) about counterfeit accounts. And account verification assured (assuming the brand registers there their .social domain.)

Which you should all do. Immediately. You can thank me later.

International Space Station research reveals some cancer tumors seem to be much less aggressive in the microgravity environment of space compared to their behavior on Earth. The research could help scientists understand the mechanism involved and develop drugs targeting tumors that don’t respond to current treatments. This work is the latest in a large body of evidence on how space exploration benefits those of us on Earth. Read more: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/research/news/tackling_tumors
