My year in pics and videos courtesy of +Google+!

Here's a nifty auto-awesome movie that just showed up in my photos. Yep, that pretty much sums up my year. Thanks to everyone who was a part of it!

Look for cameos by NJ, +Sheila Dee, Debbie, +Nicole Simon, +Ewan Spence, +C.C. Chapman, Sean, my nephew Sorin, +Ruth Carter, +Philip Plait, +Amy Shira Teitel, +Jeff Moriarty, +Patrick McLeod & Vinesa, +Julie Press, Ed, +David Gallello, +Britni Jackson, +Ryan Miller, some dudes I met at +Ignite Phoenix who were into my +Google Glass, Patrick from Old World Brewing, hocky fans from The Hungry Monk, silly people from +Sitewire, and the now-less-imaginary +Ricky Potts.

The only way to fight the insane amount of cookie photos on The Plus tonight is with homemade French Onion Soup. Of course, +Sheila Dee makes it with veggie broth so it's a little paler than usual. But quite tasty!

It's early Xmas morning. And I need bacon.

Pic unrelated, but taken from my morning walks.

Holiday garbage vigilance begins.

This is my garbage can. Well, my adopted garbage can. It sits outside my condo. And I'm claiming it as mine.

I share this garbage can with a pack of wretched scum who haven't yet learned that the trash goes inside the can, rather than on or around or _in relative proximity.

The city has placed a relatively new "NO DUMPING* sign near by. I've taken rake-and-shovel to the 10 meters on either side -- even sweeping the asphalt -- to provide one clean area of refuge in the alley. And yet they defile it still.

On Wednesday, the 25th of December, I know the real siege will begin.

.brand TLDs benefits go way beyond SEO.

KPMG's head of global digital marketing David Green says .com is out, and .kpmg is in! (http://goo.gl/X0BIyS) He cites SEO reasons -- of which I am highly skeptical -- as a partial motivator, and gets summarily smacked down from Marketing Land. (http://goo.gl/t6QGhh)

I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment, but there's a lot more at play here than just search.

SEO implications aside, .brand TLDs are poised to be a major disruptor. Consider, for a moment, the inherent trust granted to .brand addresses. Not consumer trust. Computer trust. Security becomes less of an issue internally when .brand talks to .brand server.

Of course, I expect a full on assault on these brand-controlled domains, where the unscrupulous would love to cloak their way in to gain some of that computer trust. It's time to invest in corporate security tech providers, because this war will get hot fast!

Pressbook adds import from Word for automatic .epub & .mobi conversion!

Another step toward the obsoletion of ebook conversion has arrived! I've used Pressbooks to create a few books and really like the service. Simple, elegant, great output, and responsive support. But authors who (still?) write with Word found it cumbersome to copy and paste their chapters into the Wordpress-esque system and re-do their formatting.

No more.

Let me know how this goes. +Hugh McGuire states that it's in alpha-mode and, just like the other importing tools I've seen and used, it does require some changes to your Word file before you import.
