Android could literally drive you. Crazy.
Google and display-pioneer Nvidia are teaming up with automakers Audi, GM, Honda, and Hyundai to form the Open Automotive Alliance. Their goal is simple: get the Andriod OS safely integrated into cars. In 2014.
Cars today have a deep technology footprint, with Tesla the current front runner. Yes, the car gets frequent firmware updates.
I doubt we'll see Android controlling the function of a car anytime soon. But I do expect not just OS integration, but also plenty of stand-alone offerings powered by Android, like headsup displays, communication centers, and entertainment integrations.

These social trends will change the marketing landscape
I typically avoid articles that start with this type of headline. For the first three, I was right. But the last ones have me thinking. Here's why:
1. Big Data - No shit. What list isn't this on?2. Social Tool Aggregation - What is this, 2010?3. Social Network Consolidation - Yeah, yeah... [yawn]
4. Crowdsourcing - Also not terribly new, but the concept could cause some disruption to marketing service providers. It already has to a big part of the creative class. Are we next?
5. Sharing Economy - In alignment with #5, this could shape our ecosystem. Today, people are offering up their free time. What if companies offered up the free time of their employees?
6. Quantified Self - This is a big one, and I'm just grasping how big. It'll cause privacy woes, but I think the benefits will far outweigh them. This promises to change how we interact with everything in our lives, including the screens.

Because things this awesome must be expressed in all caps and in bold.
Squee!
Not a reboot. An ending. Yes, 25 years later. And that totally works!
(H/t to +Lisa Cohen for the original share!)

For many of us, indie or self-publishing follows the same flow as traditional publishing, but we're in charge. OK... but what if that's not the optimal way? What if we need to completely rethink the entire process? I'm not talking about cutting corners, but I am talking about a new concept called lean publishing?
On the next episode of The Books & Beer Hangout, we'll cover this new process at a high level and give you our take on the process. Is it for you? Heck, is it for us? That's what we'll find out.
The Books & Beer Hangout is a weekly video chat on topic related to something in or around the world of digital publishing … with beer! You can ask us questions during the show, and by all means bring your own beer! Follow us on Google+ at https://plus.google.com/+ePublishUnum and go to our page during this time to watch or join in!

My new favorite old song.
And notice how the bass is the most-forward instrument!
I've been a fan of the Doobies* since I can remember. Even after their heyday, they made a lasting impression on me when they gave a concert that simply killed for two solid hours. Full on professionals, to be sure.
By chance, I re-discovered Takin' It To The Streets on shitty Phoenix radio recently, and am listening with a brand new ear. Bassistswill should love it. No, it's not the most complex part, but it is the most important part of the song, paring perfectly with each other part and evolving to sheer awesomeness as the tune progresses.
Put on your headphones. Close your eyes. And listen again, perhaps for the first time.
* Take that as you will...

A compelling post that outlines the completely different environment the tech sector is in today compared to the early '00s. So before you assume this is all hype, it may just be the new world we live in. Are you moving in?
