I was born in Sydney, Australia. I've been an actor, director, musician (new wave and classical) and scientist. Mostly though, I've been a writer. I've published numerous short stories and am currently writing my second novel, a YA fantasy. My first novel "Fortitude", a steampunk-inspired adventure, is out looking for a publisher.

I've also written agricultural, medical and scientific articles and ebooks as a public relations professional, freelance writer and ghostwriter.

I'm a science geek with a penchant for biology and ethology. Photography is how I unwind when I'm not writing. I adore animals and have a huge gooey spot for cats, horses and birds. Although an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy TV and film, I also appreciate serious d

I found it in an old red book of fairy tales and poems my mother owned as a child. It was titled The Children's Treasure House and a treasure house it was, full of stories of adventure, love, sorrow, loss, redemption. Some st... Read more of this blog post »

Zora Neale Hurston
“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.”
Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God

Haruki Murakami
“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
Haruki Murakami

Natsuo Kirino
“For a girl, appearance can be a powerful form of oppression. No matter how intelligent a girl may be, no matter her many talents, these attributes are not easily discerned. Brains and talent will never stand up against a girl who is clearly physically attractive.”
Natsuo Kirino, Grotesque

Zora Neale Hurston
“Then you must tell 'em dat love ain't somethin' lak uh grindstone dat's de same thing everywhere and do de same thing tuh everything it touch. Love is lak de sea. It's uh movin' thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from de shore it meets, and it's different with every shore.”
Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God

Chuck Palahniuk
“No matter how careful you are, there's going to be the sense you missed something, the collapsed feeling under your skin that you didn't experience it all. There's that fallen heart feeling that you rushed right through the moments where you should've been paying attention.
Well, get used to that feeling. That's how your whole life will feel some day.
This is all practice.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters
