Hmm... nice...
http://scifireviewsandgiveaways.com/2...
From A.M. Boyt's review of Dreams of the Queen: "A hidden talent of Patricks’ is her landscape and atmospheric/setting descriptions:
“Feral beauty tangled up and over every surface. Enormous vines and flourishing blooms swathed the area creating a shadowy, organic cathedral. A faint whiff of perfume breezed to her, like jasmine, but sweeter, more delicate—if jasmine could be more delicate without losing its scent entirely. The buzzing of alien insects reminded her of the sticky, summer days of her childhood in the South, and cicadas filled her memory with their incessant mating calls. Here, however, the insects grew louder as it grew darker. It seemed even they understood the dangers of daylight.”
I don’t know about you, but I rarely find that level of writing in self-published fiction. I also think the author deserves credit for frequently writing from the heart. You can tell she’s not churning out Twilight; she’s writing scenes that contain emotions that are very meaningful to her, and that is a rarity in traditionally published fiction."
Hmm... nice. Thank you, A.M. Boyt! I'd almost forgotten about that passage. I was inspired by the jasmine on my back porch trellis.

Sneak Peek Scene of Nightmares of the Queen
My rough draft of Lewis meeting up with Ta'mat again in 'Nightmares of the Queen', sequel to 'Dreams of the Queen'
Add it to your shelf! Nightmares of the Queen
_________________________________________________
The silver-haired, pale-skinned version of Cass stood in the middle of the room, in front of the small metal table bolted to the floor. Gracefully, almost in slow motion, she looked up—no longer staring at the hidden camera—and their gazes met. "Captain Lewis." Her smile was lazy, indulgent.
Lewis hesitated for one breath before stepping into her den. The door shut behind him with a deep metal clank. He was locked in with an insane goddess until he requested otherwise. A corner of his lips twitched—to smile or to frown?—hell, at the moment even he wasn’t sure. With his hands at the small of his back, clenching his sweat-soaked beret, and his legs shoulder-width apart, he waited just inside the door.
“So good of you to come," she said.
“As if I had a choice.”
“We all have choices.”
“Do we?”
Watching him as if he might wiggle off her hook any second, she ran her fingers over her lips. “Don’t be absurd, Captain.”
“Why did you ask for me, Ta’mat?”
“Ah.” She strolled closer, head tilted slightly. “I never could fool you. Pity.”

This is Why I Write.
A fan posing with the poster she won! This is why I write. Not to win awards, or please the establishment, or to even pay the rent (although that would be awesome). I write because I love knowing that others enjoy escaping into the worlds I create. Without avid readers, writers are just crazy people listening to the voices in their heads. Thanks, Veronica. You made my day!

My first 1 star!
I finally got my first 1 star rating. Woke up to it this morning. Finally! It's been a year since I became an Indie author, and I've been wondering when--When!?--would my first 1 star arrive. Who would it be??? God, what a relief. I can stop wondering. Or caring. I mean, who gives a shit, right? But the seal has been broken, and well... meh. I got to met Jacqueline Carey while being on an author panel with her in May. My book has gotten its first review making it eligible for Awesome Indies--just need two more. I've hit the top 100 in two sub genres three times this summer without being in Kindle Select, without giving my work away for free to thousands, without the help of Bookbub... mainly just me hitting the bricks every week, making new friends and constantly striving to improve my writing.
So... that's it.
That's the big deal.
My first 1 star rating.
Anybody want some cake?

Amazon subcategories are back up!!!
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009XTVGNE
YES! My Amazon categories are fixed again!!!!! Amazon had a glitch last weekend. All my sales, which were keeping me in the top 100 of two subgenres (time travel and genetic engineering) vanished. Which means I basically became invisible to customers. ARGH! All my sales instantly stopped and my ranking has been dropping like a dead bird. I went from #80,000 ish in 3million ebooks to almost 400,000 in less than a week. SUCKS!!!! I emailed Amazon, they fixed it but said give it 72 hours... End of today was the deadline... YES!! I'm back up and running!
Three days is a long time to be patient when you've been hitting two genres for bestselling ranking. Hope I make some sales soon and bounce back up.
