Sorry for the slow reply.

I'd suggest approaching reviewers/bloggers (who are open to this) with ARCs [advanced review copies, they get a free one in return for an honest review]. I'd suggest asking for them to be released in the first week after publication.

Also, don't neglect the importance of superficial things. The title, the cover, the blurb are all critical. Whoever said 'don't judge a book by its cover' is ignored by a lot of people.

The hardest thing, as you said, is getting noticed. So, if reviews aren't an option, try interviews. Perhaps try an early discount to rack up early reads which then lead to more reviews/ratings.

Incidentally, if you're self-publishing, you can enter the next SPFBO (Self-publishing Fantasy Blog-off). One's underway now, but I think there'll be another early next year. May seem a way off and not worthwhile, but it's free and even if your book sinks at stage one it'll get noticed by some people who wouldn't otherwise have seen it.

Oh, and don't forget to throw up a press release on Chrons. (less)

Working on two novels (three if you count redrafting), including Traitor's Prize and Sir Edric and the Plague. Hoping to release Kingdom Asunder late this year, maybe early next year [first part of a trilogy crammed full of treacherous weasels, bold knights, and vicious women].(less)

Hey Chance,

sorry for the tardy reply. I have the technical aptitude of a jam doughnut.

More than happy to swap (I think DZC will be flinging some points my way in the coming days/weeks as well).
