Michelle Hazen is a nomad with a writing problem. Years ago, she and her husband ducked out of the 9 to 5 world and moved into their truck. She found her voice with the support of the online fanfiction community, and once she started typing, she never looked back. She has written most of her books in odd places, including a bus in Thailand, an off-the-grid cabin in the Sawtooth Mountains, a golf cart in a sandstorm, a rental car during a heat wave in the Mohave Desert and a beach in Honduras. Even when she’s climbing rocks, riding horses, or getting lost someplace wild and beautiful, there are stories spooling out inside her head, until she finally heeds their call and returns to her laptop and solar panels.

My publisher has no plans to release a paperback edition, and I'm thinking it's a bit short to bother with re-formatting it for on-demand paperback. For the short pieces in my Sex, Love, and Rock and Roll series, I kept them all ebook for that reason, and also for price: once you print it you have to charge more to cover costs and that doesn't seem fair when it's a short piece. Here's the link to get the wedding ebook:
http://michellehazenbooks.com/unbreak...

BUT I do have good news. There will be another short story/novella (I think a bit more involved than the wedding story) following Breathe the Sky in which the characters in Unbreak Me and Breathe the Sky meet each other and become part of each other's lives. I feel it's the epilogue to both books because it shows (and changes) a lot of where they end up in life and makes an even happier ending for all four of them. Plus, more horses. That will be called Love Heals and I intend to release the ebook of that after Breathe the Sky has been out for a minute. Perhaps as a Christmas gift to my readers.

Thanks for reading!(less)

Tropes vs Cliches: How Can You Tell the Difference?

Many people, even within the writing community, get crossed up when they try to explain the difference between a trope and a cliche. They’ve been confused for each other for so long that they’re the Molly and a Polly at the party, long-suffering sigh at the ready because they know someone’s going to mix them up. But the difference between them can be summed up in this single picture.

“Look.” He held their hands up in front of her face, her fingers starkly pale against his. “Just look, for once. They’re never going to look the same. And when white people claim they’re color-blind, they don’t notice the difference, it’s a lie. My history is not your history; my culture is not your culture. I don’t want them to be. I’m proud of who I am and where I come from. All I want is to not be the last one rescued in a flood but the first one to wind up in handcuffs.”
Michelle Hazen, Unbreak Me

“His knuckles skimmed down the back of her arm so lightly that the rough yarn of her sweater woke up her entire body, her skin rippling with goose bumps. “Now that might be flirting.”
“Might be?” she asked breathlessly.
His breath stirred her hair, as if he’d bent a little closer. “Depends on if you want it to be.”
Michelle Hazen, Unbreak Me

“I know it ain’t right, but I can’t stand the idea of letting you go so you can look for somebody better.”
“I don’t know what I need,” she said, her voice breaking. “But if it’s not you, I don’t want it.”

“Eventually the man comes to see that he has a mind, and that his mind is like a fist, wrapped tightly around a single thought. He cannot open the fist to look at the thought, for fear that it will fly away, but he knows that it is very important and that he must hang on to it, no matter what the cost.”
