More books by Vee Hoffman…
About seven years ago, if my math is correct, under the combined influence of the Year Zero mythos and a compounding interest in some pretty bleak films and books, I tinkered with a half-baked story concept about people left alone at the end of the world. That's really all I had. No aesthetic, no voice, not even a clear idea of what the point was. Only the starting point -- fifteen minutes pass... Read more of this blog post »

Vee Hoffman is 5% done with Wool: I made it through Chapter One, wondering the entire time whether the engaging voice and unique edge would become apparent. Maybe it's just not the pov for me. I'm sure it's a great story but I felt no spark. The added groaner of manpain in the first chapter made me shelve this one for now.

I'll still be processing this one years from now, I have a feeling. I'd on;y skimmed it a few years back, and when I revisited it this time it was a riveting experience from start to finish. Post-modern horror is so difficult to produce without cross ...more

“It wasn’t closure, really. But I’d said the right things. I’d hit on some truths. Maybe some things didn’t get closure. Maybe some things weren’t really worth it, or didn’t really need it, and after a while the unimportance would become obvious.”
Vee Hoffman

“People are so different, so fascinating, each in his or her own specific world, waiting to crash into and effect another. Waiting to discover things about themselves, little details and preferences to build an identity out of. The secret identities are the finest, the most difficult to ever fully know. But the fulfillment is so intense, so beautiful. More puzzles, more individual pieces to fit.”
