Bigger Picture: Famous Album Covers Extended To Reveal Background Action

More info: aptitude.co.uk (h/t: laughingsquid)

Digital music distribution is making music less expensive and more widely available, but it is also slowly killing the album cover as an art form. To pay homage to this vanishing art form, Aptitude, a web design company, created a fun series of images that imagine what the covers of some of our favorite albums might have looked like if they were expanded a bit.

Album cover art used to be meticulously created to portray some kind of message that the band or artist was trying to convey,” explain Aptitude. “But in this digital age, buying an album has become less about buying a physical package to buying a digital version out of convenience.

Great concept and so well done!

Imagine traveling through the Netherlands,…

archiemcphee:

Imagine traveling through the Netherlands, birthplace of post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Over your head is the dazzling sky that inspired him to paint The Starry Night and… what’s this? Beneath your feet there lies an illuminated path inspired by that very same painting. That’s exactly what you can now experience in the Dutch town of Nuenen where Studio Roosegaarde, an innovative social design lab run by artist Daan Roosegaarde and his team, have just unveiled their awesome Van Gogh-Roosegaarde Bicycle Path.

Inspired by the work of van Gogh, who was a resident of Nuenen from 1883-1885, the team created a swirling, solar-powered, 1-kilometer-long bike path that’s illuminated at night by stones painted with a special paint that charges in daylight as well as embedded LEDs powered by a nearby solar array. The result is utterly enchanting as well as environmentally friendly.

The opening of Studio Roosegaarde’s radiant path marks the beginning of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year, a comprehensive cultural program celebrating Vince Gogh on the 125th anniversary of his death. The path itself connects van Gogh-related heritage locations

It’s a brilliant project and there’s talk of Britain getting something similar…

Dont Talk to Police

Dont Talk to Police:

howtofightwrite:

An law school professor and former criminal defense attorney tells you why you should never agree to be interviewed by the police. 031408_DontTalktoPolice.wmv

This is a long (but very good) 48 minute video from a criminal defense attorney and an ex-police officer talking about how police interrogations work and the methods used in them to get a confession.

For those of you out there writing cops, criminals, innocents, or verbal interrogations of any kind, I highly recommend taking an hour and watching this video. You’ll learn a lot and you’ll get some really solid information on why some techniques work the way they do.

You’ll obviously get a lot of differing opinions on the subject, but this one is very informative and I recommend that everyone (but authors especially) watch it.

The more you know.

Brilliant writer’s reference and just good advice if you find yourself helping police with enquiries…
