#TealToes and Mi Familia

The Daughters and I painted our toes teal tonight. As in we got on the floor and painted our toes as if they were still itty-bitty girls and I didn't need help getting up.

But, it was more than just a Saturday night in the floor, painting piggies and eating Veggie Straws. It was a time for me to tell them about my family.

And about Ovarian Cancer.

And about being a woman and taking control of your health.

My cousin Lisa and I got to visit on the phone this week. I can't really recall the last tim...

Co-Sleeping and Attachment Parenting

(Alternate titles)

... Or, How Your Hands Will Tingle When You Sleep On The Edge Of Your Bed All Night Long

... Or, Don't Kill Your Husband Because Then Your Children Will Be Orphans

... Or, Oh, Hell! It's Storming! There Goes My Night

There will come a time when you, as a parent, believe that your children are growing up quickly and you are sadly leaving all things child-ish behind.

Then it will storm. And while your husband stays in his recliner "checking the weather," you will retreat to...

So, How Was My Week?

I hate writing posts like this. It's the little things, y'all, that make or break a week, a day, a moment. And in the grand scheme of things? I've got my health. I've got my family. We've got our home. We are fat, fit and fabulous. What do I have to complain about, right?

Really, this is simply a case of first world problems.

Wednesday was just a rough day for me. I couldn't quite put my finger on why, but I was irritated and, I'm sure, irritating. Nothing was going right and I just couldn't p...

#IceBucketChallenge

If you have no idea what the #IceBucketChallenge is, you need to leave this blog right now and catch up with the rest of the world. Also, where have you been for the past month or so?

The basic gist is this: You are challenged by someone you know to either douse yourself with ice water or make a donation to the ALS charity of your choice. Personally, I like the ALS Organization. Ideally, you should do both. And then you challenge whomever you want.

I encourage you, however, to not just douse yo...

From The Back Seat

On our way home this weekend, we stopped at got a RedBox, Frozen. Brian and I have never seen the movie--we might be the last people in the free world to have not seen this phenom. We have now officially heard it, though.

When it came to the part (spoiler alert) when one sister is saved by the other sister, I reached to the controls and hit the pause button. I turned in my seat to face my two daughters--sister, just two years apart, and said, "Does this scene speak to y'all?"

Saturday in the Ozarks with OWL

How was your weekend? Mine? I've had a great, great day! I love any day that I can talk about writing, meet great people and chillax with my family. And all of that happened this weekend.

Ozarks Writers League (OWL) invited me to speak with them today. Last night, we started at Ye Olde English Inn in Hollister. Because my family loves a good adventure, they came along.

Ye Old English Inn really was an amazing place to stay. When I was growing up, my family used to come to the Branson area, an...

Giggling Uncontrollably and Inappropriately

Daughter 1's bra broke. She has more than one bra, but this was her favorite bra. It may have been her favorite bra because it's the one she can actually find, but none the less, it was her favorite bra. And, it didn't break so much as the underwire poked out. It might as well have stabbed her in the heart and left her die.

I suggested, when she told me of this at 8:15 yesterday evening, that she just pull the wire out. Well, you know that can't be done, right? Because then she'd be lopsided....

Here ya go, honey.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Daughter 1.  We ordered her two shirts that she desperately wanted and when they came in, they were my size. Okay, okay (no pun intended), it was probably because I accidently clicked my size without thinking, but what can I say? I've had a lot on my mind. But, this little mistake made us have to frantically order the right sized shirts and hope they got her in time. Good news? They did. Bad news? We still stressed about it.
Then, we got the cal...

#sponsored: Yak Pak Bags--WINNER ANNOUNCED!

School started yesterday. We've been ready for a month, though. Even before the sales, I took Daughter 2 school supply shopping. Typically, our biggest purchase and our biggest struggle is picking out her school bag. There are just too many to choose from and, inevitably, she wants a crappy one that I don't like and that will fall apart before Halloween.

Good news for me: This year, I got a blue zebra-striped messenger bag from Yak Pak. Daughter 2 loves the design, and I love the quality. Yak...
