Peace. Yes.
The second Sunday in Advent is Peace. And let me just say, "AMEN!"
Y'all? This week.
Whew!
On Monday, I launched my fourth and final TMI Mom book, Girlfriend Rules . (Don't worry--it's not my final book; just the final in that series.) The online party was a blast! (Did you miss it? So sorry.)
The rest of the week was a blur. Seriously. We had basketball practices, meetings, parties. A blur.
Then we hit the weekend.
Friday, I took dinner to a dear friend who had just had a baby, Hadley had a party a...

I think I like Advent best
Today begins Advent. This is the time (four weeks) that we prepare for Christmas, which I always thought was my favorite. But really? I think that Advent is my favorite.
When I was a kid, we made an advent wreath at church. We had the four purple and one pink candles around the edges. We'd light one each week in church and at home. When I was a kid, those four weeks lasted about a year. Now, they fly by.
Why? Because life is busy.
Life is just busy. There's no other way to say that.
We have work...

Thanks, Rachel and Rachel and Brian
In September, my friend Rachel Hough said, "Hey! I've got a lake house--let's go!" So this weekend we did.
I've spent the past few months trying to find my new balance. Briley is in the fifth grade (which is the worst grade ever invented if you ask me); Hadley's in her last year of middle school; Brian's busy with teaching and picking up the pieces that I drop as I try to juggle my life. The transition of having my mom at home with us has really been an easy one, but it's a change noneth...

Thank you, Brian
Brian has been known as Brian on my blog for quite some time. I thought it was urgent to out his name after a reader said, "When you say The Dad, are you talking about your husband or father?" I thought mentioning "our kids" was clue enough. Apparently not. So, his name went public.
He chortled lightly when I explained his coming out as Brian. He rolled his eyes just now when I said I wrote that he came out. He nodded his head and restarted his Netflix movie when I told him not to roll h...

Thank you, Briley
Today I'm thanking Briley. Briley is better known as Daughter 2. If you keep up with me on Facebook, you know that she's an avid softball-er and keeps me in stitches with her wit and humor.
I have no idea where she gets it.
The good news is that she's always been this way. Where Hadley's been serious, Briley's been not serious. As a baby, Hadley did more crying than Briley did--this was usually because we wouldn't let Hadley pick up her baby sister, and Briley was all like, "What? I left the wo...

Thank You, Hadley
This morning, our pastor challenged us to not take notes during his sermon, but to write down people we for whom we are thankful.
I took notes because no one can tell me what to do.
Kidding. Kinda. I did take notes because it's hard to break old habits and he said some really cool things that I wanted to remember.
But, this challenge to think of people for whom we are thankful inspired me.
So, today, thank you, Hadley.

If you don't vote ...
"If you don't vote, you can't complain."
This is bull. How about we change it to don't complain. Complaining, griping, moaning and bitching--these don't accomplish much at all.
Being critical, being constructive, involving yourself in the daily happenings of your government: These things are beneficial.
I look at the nationwide election outcome, and I feel frustrated. I look at my state's choices and hold my breath, telling myself that it's still early.
But, if trends hold true, I will not compl...

She's my kid
Sunday morning, Daughter 1 circled the word Christmas three times in the church bulletin.
"Ohmygoodness, Momma!" she whispered during the announcements, "I cannot wait!"
I nodded my head in agreement. This is the most wonderful time of the year.
Tonight as we watched the first Christmas commercial (I think it was Target, and their song this year is not nearly as cool as last year's song), she said, "Don't you wish we could put up the tree right now?"
I giggled and nodded. I considered...

Saturday In The Front Yard
Thanks to my sweet friend, Galit, we embarked on our own version of bringing faces together. Last month, we celebrated with Spaghetti Saturday. This month, last night, we had friends over to gather in our front yard and eat sausages: Brats, Polish, Hot Link, and weenies.
I'm having such a great time meeting with our neighbors and our friends and fellowshipping in the front yard. Last night it was chilly. And when the sun went down over our neighbor's house it got cold.
