Newsletter and Blog Delay

Unsurprisingly, Sandy has wreaked some havoc on everyone’s schedules this week. I expected to share a new blog post with you yesterday and a newsletter on November 1, but I’m going to miss that deadline. I’ll aim to post more hypnosis news here on the blog next Tuesday or Wednesday (11/6 or 11/7), with a newsletter the following week.

If you’re new to the site, you can register for my newsletter here, on the home page.

Stay safe!

Mindfully,

Dr. Scott

Hypnosis for Weight Loss: Featured Article in Fox News Magazine

Recently, I was interviewed  for a feature story in Fox News Magazine; the subject: how hypnosis helps with weight loss. If you missed the story, you can view it here.

Losing weight through hypnosis is near and dear to my heart.  In fact, my frustration at being overweight led me to discover the clinical side of hypnosis. As a chiropractor, I felt as though I was not setting a good example for the patients I was counseling to lose weight. How could I expect them to curb their appetites and exercise more if I wasn’t doing this myself? After receiving training in medical hypnosis, I began working with my very first “hypnosis” patient (myself!) and lost 41 pounds in three months, which I have kept off for over 26 years.

Over the years I have done several of these types of interviews, as well as seminars, and I always enjoy the great questions that I am asked about hypnosis. While using hypnosis for weight loss and smoking cessation are among the most popular topics, I’ve also had many people ask me about using hypnosis for a number of other health issues such as headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, fibromyalgia, anxiety, insomnia, and many other often frustrating conditions. It is always a pleasure to share with people the proven benefits of using hypnosis to help treat these problems. I also enjoy letting people know about the often unexpected additional benefits of hypnosis (referred to as “ripple effects”), such as an increased feeling of self-efficacy, greater self-confidence, decreased stress, and many other positive changes.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am currently working on my first newsletter, which will be available on November 1st.  I’m really excited with how it’s turning out. Keep following me here on the blog (you can subscribe by clicking on the RSS icon at the top of this page) for more updates on how you can sign up to receive this newsletter full of useful tips, dispelled hypnosis myths, and occasional video highlights from some of my presentations and shows (what I call “The Lighter Side of Hypnosis”).

Mindfully,

Dr. Scott

The Hypnosis Treatment Option

Welcome to my blog. I’m really excited about all the wonderful people I’ve met at my performances and seminars and am delighted that you’ve taken the time to visit my site. I’ll be posting here regularly and am committed to providing you with useful and interesting information about hypnosis and how it can be of benefit to you.

As you’re probably aware, there are many misconceptions and fears about hypnosis, many of them perpetrated by TV and the movies. Many people who attend my comedy shows are surprised when they learn that hypnosis is commonly used by medical doctors, psychologists, and other healthcare providers to treat (or enhance treatment of) a number of common health problems. While many people are aware that hypnosis has been successfully utilized to help people lose weight and stop smoking, just as many are surprised to learn that hypnosis is also highly effective for migraines, pain control, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, hot flashes and many other conditions.

The Hypnosis Treatment Option by Dr. Scott LewisI wrote my new book (which will be released on Jan 15, 2013), The Hypnosis Treatment Option – Proven Solutions for Pain, Insomnia, Stress, Obesity and Other Common Health Problems, with the intent of providing solid research by top institutions proving the efficacy of hypnosis for over 50 common health problems. I have spent over two years preparing this book and will be sharing with you in my blog posts some of the most exciting information I’ve discovered.

Hypnosis is also highly effective with kids. On this blog and in my book I’ll be letting you know about the exciting research and practical applications I’ve found for helping children with many common health conditions and fears, including bedwetting, anxiety about needles and medical procedures, and asthma.

I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be providing a monthly newsletter featuring recent hypnosis research developments and other useful information, some of which you’ll be able to put into practice.

When I travel I often receive requests from people who want to see the “lighter side of hypnosis,” as well as its medical applications, so from time to time I’ll be sharing video highlights from my show. While some hypnosis practitioners disapprove of using hypnosis for entertainment, I find that when used responsibly, hypnosis “for fun” can be an empowering experience for participants, stimulating creativity, relaxation, and confidence.

Thanks again for visiting my site. I look forward to sharing with you all the wonderful benefits of hypnosis.

Mindfully,

Dr. Scott
