Book Giveaway!! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAK!!!!
Today marks the first day of my book giveaway. It runs from 9/20-10/20--important dates to me. 9/20 is the birthday of my Goddaughter Jakyra and 10/20 is the birthday of my best friend and her mother Joyce (I call her Boo). Jakyra turned 9 today and I will NOT risk my life by posting Boo's age this year on such a public forum!
Quickly moving on, there will be 2 winners at the end of the contest. Each person will receive a signed copy of my book of poetry, "SHED". I recently released this work on July 28, 2012 and it is available at Amazon as a paperback and an e-book for Kindle. All Amazon Prime members may borrow the Kindle version for free. My book is also available at Barnes and Noble and Books A Million websites.
Good luck to all entrants!

SOCIAL NETWORKING: AN AUTHOR'S BFF
I was always a fan of social networking but I am now a lover of this engine that connects so many people from different walks of life. There is a group for everything and everyone.
As a writer, I do not have many people surrounding me who can identify with this aspect of my life. As a newly published author, that number decreases. So I began reaching out in an effort to find my creative "clicks". And I did. The first group that I joined is on Facebook, followed by a few others. In fact, one of those groups is my link to goodreads. Would I have ever found goodreads without it? At some point, yes. But with social networking, I learned of it quickly and began researching the website. And now I am here!
I have also become a member of author and book groups on LinkedIn. Anywhere that I can connect with others is a great promotional opportunity for me. It also allows me to get ideas form writers/authors who are more seasoned than I am and apply their lessons to my current journey in bringing my work to the masses. I thank every last one of them (and you) for being an open book of knowledge and wisdom.
I LOVE SOCIAL NETWORKING!

DIY
I was never a child that asked a lot of questions. I tended to be quiet and observe or create my own world. In MY world, the answers were what I felt they should be to satisfy my curiosity. I suppose, in a way, my mind still functions the same. I am still observant and create alternate experiences by way of my writings.
I say all of this to say, my DIY (DO-IT-YOURSELF) began at an early age. The downfall of such thinking is that I once believed that everyone was just like me. Sometimes I still make that mistake. Old habits die hard. Please bear with me. So here is a brief run-down of how I was able to get "SHED" out into the world.
For my first book, I researched avenues for self-publishing my work. I thought it would be difficult but it was a piece of cake. The hardest part was getting beyond my fear of sharing my intimate and soulful thoughts with the world. Now this marketing thing? Its a whole other animal. However, I am up for the uphill climb. I joined author and book groups on sites such as fb, LinkedIn, and of course Good Reads. I receive a vast amount of information and ideas which is how I discovered this website as well as blog tours--the next stop on my promotional to-do list. Stay tuned!
