The Saxon Bride: historical #FallingIntoLove romance from Ashley York
Blurb: In war torn England the battle lines between Saxon and Norman are clearly drawn. The Saxons must fight for everything they have in the hopes of winning their country back from the Normans who are determined to break their resistance. Rowena Godwinson, the sole remaining member of the defeated royal family, stands proudly against the Normans that would trample them underfoot.
When the new King decrees she marry a powerful Norman knight, her subjugation appears to be complete. The handsome soldier with the kind brown eyes and gentle touch is a threat to her determination to defy the interlopers. Can she hold firm to her Saxon heritage and refuse to give in to his advances? John of Normandy resists marriage and wants only to prove himself worthy of William's trust but when rewarded by King William with the gift of an earldom and a Saxon bride, he balks at marriage, driven by the guilt of knowing her father died by his sword. However, John's reluctance is soon replaced by a deep desire to please this woman and win her over as well as her people. As their people look to them for guidance and peace, can John and Rowena find a love that unites all of England?

EXCERPT:
A Norman. I have been given to a Norman to wife.
Rowena Godwinson, daughter of the late Earl of Essex and the last living member of that powerful Saxon family, stood before her reflection in the polished brass. The wedding gown passed down through three generations of Godwin women before her, draped softly across the shoulders, skimming down her waist and falling over the tips of her deerskin slippers. She blinked back with vacant eyes.
Fear tripped up her spine and her stomach clenched. She had lived among the victors for nigh on five years now. Their disdain for her people was quite obvious. Now the man who had usurped her own uncle as rightful king at the Battle of Hastings had ordered her to marry. With both parents dead, she was his ward.
Rowena clenched her teeth and turned to the window. She glimpsed the slate roof of the chapel beyond the trees where the nuptials would take place this very day. Her family's chapel. Countless celebrations with uncles, close friends, and more cousins than she could name, had taken place there. Those were happy years.
"My lady?"
Rowena looked at the drawn face of her handmaiden, Joan. The blonde sheen of her hair, long gone with the stress of the circumstances and occupation they were all forced to live under.
"Yes?"
Joan gulped. "Do you think he will be kind to you? Tonight, I mean?"
Rowena's breath caught in her throat. The marriage bed. How would her husband treat her? With kindness? As her husband, he gained much by this union. A lot of responsibility, yes, but also power. Some men loved power.
She tipped her chin up.
"I believe he will be kind as I will give him no reason not to be."
Joan's eyes rounded. Rowena smiled tightly.
"Fear not, Joan. I will be amicable."
"My lady, would that I could impart upon you my own knowledge, but I have none. Your mother's death before she prepared you leaves you in a bad way."
"Perhaps he will be a gentle man. John." His name was all she knew.
"Yes, my lady. He is one of William's most trusted knights."
"A warrior." Rowena's tone was flat and for an instant she saw again her father. Cold and dead. Blood all around. She forced the memory aside. "Then he will be a good protector."
"Yes, but of whom?"

Blurb
: In a time of false peace, the dead rise as soldiers for the Warloc’s scheme. For thousands of years he has stood ready for the final battle. Though the witch and her cursed Elvin have destroyed his physical body, now with his protégé, he has honed a new way to wage war.
Shunned by her own people and weary-hearted from centuries of lost loves, Elvin warrior Mirhana scours the land to silence the undead. Her heart has turned as cold as the sword she wields, until a prince seeks her aid.
Never has Prince Landon met a woman like Mirhana. Both beautiful and deadly, she haunts his dreams. The battle at hand becomes more enchanting than fighting to remain true to his unseen betrothed.
When a traitor emerges, new alliances are tested and the only remaining hope is to follow the prophecy and find the ... Son of Dragons.
Excerpt:
Clean from the bath, Landon let the air from the open window dry his hair. Dressed only in trousers, he leaned against the windowsill.
He thought he smelled the hint of roses and heat on the breeze. Movement from the street below caught his eye. He leaned out, squinting into the night.
Torches lined the cobbled street corners. A cloaked figure waited. Then the innkeeper rushed outside. His hands flew in gestures as the figure nodded.
Then he pointed to the window where Landon watched. At the same instant, the cloaked figure followed his finger’s path to Landon. Green eyes that seemed to glow met his.
Landon jumped up and cursed when his head hit the bottom of the window. When he looked back, both figures were gone.
Thinking the innkeeper would send guards, he waited with his sword in hand and his stare riveted on the door. No one came. He must be getting paranoid, thinking there was a ghost or enemy around every corner. His eyelids grew heavy as he waited for a fight that failed to materialize. Finally, he rolled his shoulders back to ease out the tension.
Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about those piercing emerald eyes. They’d belonged to a woman; he could tell. There was intelligence and cunning in them. Her stare felt as though she saw through the façade he often wore as prince and to please others, and into his kajh.
A woman who was not afraid, but used to being feared. It unnerved him, yet excited him. His pulse quickened and his loins tightened at the thought of those eyes filled with passion for him.
Better get some sleep before the night was gone. Tomorrow, he’d tell Gillespie about what he saw. He doubted he could explain those captivating green eyes that continued to haunt him even now.
Reviews:
“We are introduced to new and wonderful creatures, and meet up with those we know and love from the first book, as each character's unique role and journey begins to intersect... and each will have a pivotal role in the outcome of an epic battle that is about to take place. Deception, self discovery, and sacrifices will be made, as each character's true role is uncovered... and in these magical lands, nothing is at it seems…Still, the book builds on the last with new and enchanting worlds, exciting creatures, and breathtaking originality. ..A really fun read, and a complimentary addition to the Legends of Oblivion series!” 4 1/2 stars Moonrise Book Blog

Andrea’s Bio: Andrea has always created characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels. What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes, love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).
Andrea writes paranormal and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba.
She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most importantly, she believes in love.

Book Spotlight: Kinky Toes by Suz deMello, a #FallingIntoLove romance
The Coffee Chat is taking a week off, but we have one of our "hot" authors visiting with her provocative title ~ Kinky Toes...
Introducing Suz deMello’s latest HOT short story, Kinky Toes.
What’s it about, you ask?
Genre: contemporary erotic romance
Shelbie Nathanson resents Rick Saldano's ascension to C.O.O. of her family's shoe company, a job she's wanted all her life. But she can't resist his red-hot, sexy style of lovemaking... one that focuses on her passion: shoes.
Here’s a snippet to pique your interest:
A secretary entered holding a tray of coffees. She set it on the big desk and offered a cup to Shelbie. “Two sugars and a drop of cream, just how you like it, Ms. Nathanson,” the girl squeaked.
“Great, thanks.” Shelbie took the coffee while wondering why the secretary was so jumpy. Maybe she’d had too much caffeine.
The girl cast Shelbie another scared glance before giving a cup to Rick, visibly relaxing as she served him and then Shelbie’s father, who sat behind his big desk in the place Shelbie expected to fill once he retired. With another frightened peek at Shelbie, the gofer scooted out.
“What’s with her?” Shelbie sipped. “Is she new?”
“Yeah, but it seems that your reputation precedes you,” Rick said drily.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“I mean that no assistant of yours has lasted longer than six months. Word gets around.”
“That’s not my fault.” She stirred her coffee. “The last one was impossible.”
“Failing to know the difference between heliotrope and mauve isn’t impossible.”
“It is if you work for me. And calling my beautiful shoes Shelbie’s Slut Heels wasn’t appropriate.” She stretched out her leg to again admire her handiwork.
“True,” Rick said. “Talk like that damages the company.”
She glared at him, noting his attention fixed on her shoe. Man, he was just too easy.

Book Spotlight: In Too Deep, a novel for #FallingIntoLove
Blurb for In Too Deep:
On the banks of the Trinity River, Sadie Pepperman is looking for a chance to escape the demands of her in-laws. With her husband’s dead, they want her to marry her brother-in-law so they can take control of her farm.
Suddenly, the peace of the day is shattered when her best friend steps too far into the river. Rushing to save her, Sadie meets a handsome stranger that ignites her dormant lust. She sees her friend rescued by a steamship and backs away from Logan Jansen, only to turn her ankle.
The agonizing pain leaves Sadie with the inability to walk. Needing help, she offers Logan a place to stay if he’ll help with the chores on her farm. With his agreement, Sadie adds another problem to her list. Now, not only does she have to worry about how to bring her crops in from the field and run her farm alone but she also has to fight her attraction to Logan.
Can Sadie end her in-laws’ interference in her life, run her farm alone,
and give love another chance?
Excerpt:
A smile bloomed on Logan’s face, almost arrogance, yet strangely appealing too. “How long has your husband been dead?”
“A little over a year, but he’s been gone almost two.” Sadie bit her lip and shifted her weight. A throbbing pain pierced through her foot. She cringed.
Logan tightened his grip and eased her to one side to stare at her feet. “Sugar, I think you may have done some serious damage to your ankle.”
“No, I have too much to do. I can’t be laid up with a sore foot.” Sadie recalled the last time she’d injured herself. She’d had to call on Richard’s family for help. The incident had driven home the need to distance herself from them if she wanted to keep the property her husband had left her.
Logan kept one arm around her waist and bent to examine her ankle. Warm fingers brushed her skin briefly before he rose beside her. “Sorry, but its already swelling.”
“Oh, horse feathers,” she muttered, furious with how nothing seemed to be going her way today. First the overbearing heat, then Carolyn badgering to cut loose and later getting caught in the river current, followed by Sadie hurting her foot and the onset of unwanted desire for a stranger.
“Sugar, horses don’t fly.” A teasing note bled through his tone before he scooped her up into his arms. “Luckily, I can carry you to the wagon.”

New Release: Cross Keys, An Elvenrude Novel
JUST RELEASED!Cross Keys (An Elvenrude Novel)
by
Ally Shields
Conspiracy, murder, and magic…and the death of all they hold dear.
When the first wanderer—a common elf who isn’t authorized to use the portal—is spotted on the streets of New Orleans, the king assigns Kameo Ryndel to assist in the elf’s capture. But before she can intervene, humans with guns shoot the wanderer and steal his body. When Seth Lormarc, an Elite elf from a rival guild, appears at the scene, Kam suspects he is involved.
Seth Lormarc is in New Orleans to find out who was behind the portal breach, and his best lead is the intriguing Kam Ryndel. When he stakes out her apartment and finds her sneaking out in the middle of the night, dressed in black and leaping to the top of the nearest building, he knows there’s something unique about the beautiful elf. That kind of feat requires magic. Ancient magic.
As their paths cross during their investigations, they develop an irresistible attraction, although there’s little time for romance. The portal breach is tied to an illegal smuggling operation that has come to the attention of the human CIA. But the stakes are raised when Kam and Seth discover a band of conspirators and a rebellion deep in Elvenrude that promises nothing except destruction of their world.

RECIPE:
Angels on Horseback
1 tin smoked oysters (25)
1/2 lemon

Pepper to taste
7- 8 slices of bacon cut into approx. 2 inch strips to fit around each oyster
Put oysters in bowl and squeeze lemon juice over them. Add Worchester. Stir gently. Wrap each oyster and secure with a wooden toothpick. Bake in pre-heated 400 degree over until bacon is crisp (or under broiler for 5-6 minutes).

Coffee Chat Author Interview: J.C. Conway
Good Morning, Booklovers! Please give a warm welcome to my guest J.C. Conway!
How do you take your coffee, John?
J.C.: I like it black, although these days I usually start my day with a low-carb Monster (energy drink) instead. It's a little easier on my nerves.
Ally: Since my coffee pot is magic, it can produce anything! :) I'll fix our drinks while you show readers your bio.
Bio: J. C. Conway is a romance, science fiction and fantasy author, writing novels and short stories for adults, young adults and teens. Hearts in Ruin is his debut novel. He is a grand prize winner of the Yosemite Romance Writers Smooch contest. He will have short stories published this summer by The Colored Lens and Comets & Criminals. His writing passion began with a grade-school assignment to write anything he liked, which, at the time, included dinosaurs, robots, army heroes and alien invaders. Since then he's added deep simmering passion, tense internal conflict and emotional dilemmas. To learn more, visit his website at http://jcconway.com, his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/J.C.Conway.Writer, or follow him on Twitter at https://twitter.com/jcconwaywriter. Also feel free to visit http://HeartsInRuin.com, the website dedicated to his debut novel. Ally: Can you add something personal about yourself?
J.C.: My hobbies include Chess, Computer Programming, and Backpacking. I'm an attorney. I used to teach high-school math. I'm a proud grandfather of a bright second grade boy named Jack. I'm the Vice President of the local affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and an advocate for mental health, improving treatment for mental illness, and reducing or eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness.
Ally: Thanks for helping those who really need it.
Ally: Shall we switch to a little book talk? How did you get started writing romantic suspense?
J.C.: I am chiefly a science fiction writer, and I realized quite a few years ago now that much of what I was writing was romantic suspense. With that epiphany, I added a new group of stories to my repertoire—suspenseful stories with male and female protagonists and a reduced science-fiction profile. My latest book, for instance, has a speculative element in the construction of a forgotten, ancient pre-Clovis culture. But that's it for the speculative science. The rest of the story is contemporary romantic suspense at an archaeological dig, and I find it a very refreshing and useful genre to express a good story.
Ally: Do you find it more difficult to write from the female or the male point of view? Do you have someone read it to check the female perspective?
J.C.: I don't find either gender difficult to write, per se. I think what is at the core of personality is something that transcends gender. Although it is more difficult to set social situations properly and reflect internal dialogue where the character would have a substantially different background and perspective than me. So yes, I do have people read for red flags and reality checks.
Ally: Describe your journey to publication. Were you an (1) overnight success, (2) persistence pays off, or (3) somewhere in between?
J.C.: My path to publication is a story of persistence. I've chipped away at it, and am still chipping. Every story is different, and every publisher is different. There is no easy path that I am aware of, and I have learned to approach writing like a marathon rather than a sprint.
Ally: What are your best marketing tips for new writers?
J.C.: I'm not a good marketer yet, so I don't know how good my tips can be! But I know this—if you are going to write professionally, you have to market. I think personal contact goes a long way. Tell everyone and anyone about your book. Be proud and share the information. Have a card to pass out. Make connections. And take that same attitude to the on line arena as well.
Quick answer questions:
a. type of car you drive vs type of car you'd like to drive: I drive a Honda Accord V6 Hybrid with good power and a crappy air conditioner; I'd like something with more power and better air b. your last vacation destination: South Dakota for a reunion. c. favorite after five drink: Oh, my gosh, that varies. But Woodford Reserve sure hits the spot. d. an item on your bucket list: Alaska e. last movie you watched: American Hustle
Ally: I'm fascinated by archaeology. What kind of research did you do for this book? Have you been on a dig?
J.C.: I'm fascinated, too, and I wish I'd been to a dig. But to flesh out the story and setting I had to rely on a lot of people that have participated in digs. I did that anywhere I could—in person, mail, reading blogs, following dig progress … everything I could hear, read, or find. I also had to brush up on present theories of human occupation of North America, refresh my memory about academic conflicts, and study the process of protecting an archaeological site (including the interests that oppose such protection and their reasons). It was really a fun bunch of information to "dig" into.
Ally: That sounds like the perfect segue to introduce your book...
HEARTS IN RUIN BLURBAndrea had one goal in life, a quiet career as a mainstream archaeologist—nothing more nothing less—and she's one ancient secret away. that has been feuding with the Ryndels for centuries,
a sophisticated business man--on the surface--
who is satisfied with his elegant lifestyle...
Until danger follows the illegal transports
taken through the magic portals that link the worlds
of men and elves...
And these two unlikely partners
are the only ones standing in its way.
Book Blurb:Conspiracy, murder, and magic…and the death of all they hold dear.
