He stood up on stage and asked the assembled students how many of them wanted to be writers. After everyone's hands went up, he proclaimed, "Then what are you doing here? Go out and write." Then he left the room. Writing is patience while finding the commitment and security to express yourself. It will require one to listen to criticism and determine what criticism is valid and useful and what isn't. Even though I self-published my novel, I still paid for a round of professional editing, which I feel provided a professional polish to the work, well worth the price. Some writers have stories lined up for ages, while others may only see a few stories in a lifetime. For the later, remember that Harper Lee only wrote one novel, but "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a literary classic.(less)

For the past few years, since self-publishing my novel, I have supported other indie writers who have connected with me through social media by purchasing their book on Kindle format, reading it, and honestly reviewing it on Amazon and Goodreads. For indie writers, receiving reviews are an important means of getting their work in front of readers, and readers need to know that the reviews they are seeing are truthfully presented. For a few of my skilled fellow indie writers with multiple works who have positively supported and respected my reviews, when my “to be read” list gets low, I will select another one of their works and add it to my upcoming read and review list. Presently, I have a couple of works on my “currently reading” and “want to read” lists, but I expect more to be continually added as I connect with more eager indie writers.(less)

A Year of Reviewing Indie Books 2022

The year 2022 proved to be a challenging year for many around the world. Even as the COVID pandemic signs began to improve, the global disruptions pushed forward a wave of economic inflation and uncertainty, a worldwide issue that was further exasperated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On my end, I was able to maintain some sense of calm in my life, but my travel plans were restricted to a sin
