Music Monday-Intrigue Me
Hey guys! Let’s welcome Lacee Hightower today to celebrate her new release, Intrigue Me! She’s going to share her musical inspiration with us!
Better Than Drugs- Skillet
This was my main motivational song for this book. Calm the ache, stop the shakes—you clear my mind. You’re my escape from this messed up place. This band is actually a Christian band and I’m pretty confident they’re referring to God in the song, but they also play this on rock stations and to me it reminds me of a certain person who has stood by me through thick and thin. Thus, the inspiration for Intrigue Me.
2. Always- Killswitch Engage
It talks of someone lost to torment, which both main characters in the book are in their own different sense. I am with you always is something anyone longs to hear from a loved one and Intrigue Me has a lot to do with sticking through with that special someone no matter what kind of dark desires they may crave.
3. Do Not Disturb- Halestorm
…well listen to it once and anyone that reads any of my books will know why this was inspiriting.
4. Into the Nothing-Breaking Benjamin
Breaking Benjamin is one of my all-time favorite bands and at least one of their songs has inspired me on each one of my books. For Intrigue Me, Into the Nothing was that song. Dedicated by the band to all the people serving in the military or anyone who felt like they were going into the nothing, that’s exactly what I felt about the two main characters of this story, not only in a sexual sense, but a very personal one as well.
5. Evanescence- My Immortal
This band is a very dear friend of mine’s favorite band. I’m not positive as to the exact meaning of the song, but it reminded me of a special friend who supported me immensely while I wrote this book and since there’s actually a somewhat sad side to the book, it just seemed to fit.

Tangled Pleasures, 1
What’s a person to do when they discover everything they’ve believed is nothing but lies?
I grew up wealthy, a spoiled rich kid some would say, blessed with a natural athletic physique and erotic good looks that could get me into the panties of just about any girl I set my mind to.
I wanted … what I wanted.
And that meant one thing: the beautiful brunette from study hall—but she left me high and dry.
Today, I have a heart made of stone. I’m angry, a professed lifelong bachelor and a sexual sadist.
My soul is a cold river.
Eight years later, she’s back in my life and holding secrets that are ruthless, unforgiveable.
I want to punish her, make her cry, make her suffer. I want to hate her for what she’s done.
But I want my hands on her.
Mine. All mine.
I simply want … Ava Montgomery.

What story I’m currently working on:
Uh. So I was REALLY into writing this book apparently. I knocked out 10k on Monday alone, which was totally unexpected, and so Pomegranate’s Kiss is DONE guys. I really can’t believe it. But there was so much fun drama and now I should probably switch my focus onto editing pretty hard core, but I couldn’t help myself! I loved this couple so damn much, and I was really feeling the whole family series type of thing, so my brain is already dreaming up book three of the Eros Tales!
What I’m editing/marketing:
Outlier Heir’s just been idling while I write like a fiend, and the other focal point of mine has been micro-edits for A Thief’s Crusade. I’ve also started to work on some of the bigger changes, making the necessary alterations. I didn’t get as much feedback on this one, so I’m going to have to use my best judgement and really go over it well before I begin submissions. And I’m in major prep mode for the re-release next week of Hunting for Spring, Philadephia Coven Chronicles #1, and after finishing book two in the series, I’m even more excited for the launch of the brand new Eros Tales series, starting with Taking Root!

Line of the week:
“Let me help.” She reached out and grabbed Cerberus’s leash, sharing the load with Lex who passed her a grateful glance. The side shave she now rocked only made her hotter, and in a black wifebeater, threadbare jeans, and those Docs she never ditched, Lex was still the only one she fantasized about. Cerberus pranced around, unceremoniously slobbering all over the Dusquene family gravestones, and then trampling over the Mills.
“Normal couples take their dogs to the dog park,” Cam mentioned, a grin on her lips.
“Normal couples are boring as shit,” Lex shot back, heading towards the path that led to the water where weeping willows bowed, their long branches and leaves almost brushing the surface. “Thank fuck we’re nothing like that.”

I’ve been burned by my ex-fiancée and sentenced myself to long shifts at the hospital ever since. There’s no way I’d give anyone else the opportunity to break my heart again.
Until chance brings me face to face with the girl from my past.
Danielle is still as beautiful as ever, and seeing her reminds me of how I felt about her—how I still feel about her.
But she’s changed. I can see it when I look into her eyes. It’s like she’s no longer living, but merely existing. An enigma laden with secrets from her past—secrets that are forcing her to run from me. Only this time, I won’t let her get away so easily.
I’m determined to peel away every layer of secrets she carries around her, and to protect her from whatever it is that’s causing her to run.
Danielle Reynolds will not slip through my fingers again.
This time…she stays.

What story I’m currently working on:
Apparently I went crazy with the word counts again this week, because I’m already at 35k in Pomegranate Kiss. Lex and Cam are hot and complicated, which is my favorite, and I’m just about to get into the heavy drama of the book since I’m past the mid-way point. I swear, this one is just clear as day in my head. I want to dive back into Tempting Ballad too, but I’ve been so preoccupied with Pomegranate Kiss that Renn and Kincaid didn’t stand a chance.
What I’m editing/marketing:
The Outlier Heir edit has taken a backseat again because I have the first of my beta feedback for A Thief’s Crusade, so I’m continuing to clean the prose up before I dive in and make some big changes. In two weeks, I have the re-release of Hunting for Spring, Philadephia Coven Chronicles #1, and I’m even more excited for the launch of the brand new Eros Tales series, starting with Taking Root!

Cam strode a couple paces behind to walk in line with Lex while Nellie gabbed away with Danny on the way over to the night club.
Lex leaned in, her lips brushing against Cam’s ear accidentally-on-purpose. “You’re a goddamn tease, you know that? I’m going to enjoy peeling that dress off you the moment we get into our hotel room tonight.”
The heat in her voice seemed to transfer directly to Cam’s cheeks. “Are you trying to make me combust on the spot?” She thwacked Lex in the side, hoping the darkness hid the ruddy stain of her flush.

What story I’m currently working on:
Um. I went a little overboard the past week. The pace on Tempting Ballad slowed to only 6k, but that doesn’t even matter because Pomegranate Kiss blew up. I hit 21k in that book, which is crazy because I literally started it a week and a half ago. However, Lex and Cam won’t shut up, and their story is really interesting. There are certain times when writing is just *easy* and when you catch hold of that precious flow, you need to ride it out.
What I’m editing/marketing:
I slowed down on the Outlier Heir edit because I needed to make space for some other things, including beginning to dive into small, line edits on A Thief’s Crusade. Even though I’m still waiting on beta reader feedback, I couldn’t help but at least start to clean the prose up. If you’re looking for new books on the horizon, in July I’ve got two releases on the docket. The first one is the re-release of the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles with book one, Hunting for Spring, and I’m even more excited for the launch of the brand new Eros Tales series, starting with Taking Root!

Line of the week:
Lex returned to Cam’s mouth, drawing out the kiss until she pulled back. The sky was dark and the moon had peeked out to cast silver hues across the tombstones. They’d kissed right through the sunset. Cam’s chest heaved with the desire that charged the air between them, but as she had from the beginning, she let Lex take the reins.
“Looks like I was able to make you a spooky bitch, after all,” Lex cracked, her eyes gleaming with amusement. The joke shattered the tension between them, and Cam flicked her in the arm.
“You’re ridiculous. Come on, let’s see the rest of this cemetery of yours,” Cam said, snapping her bra back on and running her fingers through her hair to comb it back. She took the footsteps forward, and Lex followed, trailing behind a couple of places.
This was one of the few, lonely places where she could admit the truth, where her self-delusions crumbled like the tombstones surrounding her. No matter how much she tried to convince herself the opposite, she was falling for Cam.
