Welcome Summer by Mae Clair
Today feels a bit like a holiday. It’s Friday, the end of the work week, gorgeous outside, and it’s the first day of summer!
As a kid, summer started for most of us the moment the afternoon bell rang on the last day of school. Remember the giddy exhilaration you felt as you burst through the doors and raced from the building with your friends? A glorious world awaited, full of trips to the beach, ballgames, swimming and exploring.
I’m old enough to remember when the pinnacle of summer fun inclu...

Ducking the Unexpected in Writing by Mae Clair
They arrived unannounced, without fanfare, and made themselves at home. I wasn’t expecting guests that day, much less the pair of ducks that settled in my back yard.
I’m not in a neighborhood that attracts waterfowl. I live in a small community of approximately 25 homes that is surrounded by farmland. In the rear, my home backs up to a church. When my husband and I originally bought the house, that plot of ground was comprised of acres of fertile crops. The local farmer had a habit of plowing...

Wizards with Words: Lorraine Paton and Devin’s Second Chance
Hello and welcome to another Wizard with Words post.Today I’m pleased to have Lorraine Patonas my guest.
Lorraine and I go back to the days of Six Sentence Sunday when we were both sharing snippets of our work. I’m excited to announce she has now released her debut novel, DEVIN’S SECOND CHANCE, a contemporary romance and book 1 of the Morning Lake novels. I’m really looking forward to this one and hope you’ll welcome Lorraine as she tells us a bit about herself and her particular style of writ...

Mythical Monday: A Cellar Dweller by Mae Clair
For clurichauns, a leprechaun-like cellar spirit, libations are foremost on their mind. These faerie type imps look like a miniature innkeeper, decked out in breeches, stockings and shoes with silver buckles. They’re thought to be a darker cousin of the leprechaun and are generally content to reside in the wine cellar of inns and houses, taking whatever share of food and drink are available. A happy clurichaun will protect both your wine supply and your home. They are solitary c...

Rain and TWELFTH SUN by Mae Clair
It’s Thursday, a soggy Thursday. The morning arrived with a torrential downpour of rain and flooding streets all to the booming orchestration of thunder overhead. The day promises to be one of scurrying from car to buildings and buildings to car, hoping the wind won’t be vicious enough to rip an umbrella inside out.
Sporadic “strong” storms and brooding skies are forecasted throughout the day and there are rumors a tornado warning may crop up later. It seems whenever severe weather sweeps into...

Mythical Monday: Spring Heel Jack by Mae Clair
For today’s Mythical Monday, I’m visiting an era steeped in gas lanterns, cobbled streets, carriages, and gentleman callers in top hats.
Enter Spring Heel Jack, a macabre phantom who terrorized the English countryside in the 19th century. First sighted in 1837, he gained notoriety during the height of the Victorian era.
This maniacal creature was described as a tall, thin man with powerful bony fingers resembling claws. He favored the appearance of a strolling actor or opera-goer, usually spott...

Forty-five Years Ago Today: Robert F. Kennedy by Mae Clair
If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you probably know there are a few things I’m passionate about:
Writing
Reading
Myth and urban legends
The fictional characters of Aloyisius Pendergast and Gerald Tarrant
Robert F. Kennedy
It’s the last of these I want to reference today.
There is some small part of me that remembers seeing a newsreel of Sirhan Sirhan shoot Bobby Kennedy in the Ambassador Hotel shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968. Has it really been forty-five years since that fat...

History, Honor and the Spirit of the Revolution with Debbie Peterson
It’s Tuesday and it’s June. These are definite facts. It’s also a fact you’ve seen SPIRIT OF THE REVOLUTION on my blog before, but my friend Debbie Peterson is now enjoying the “official release” of her paranormal romance and I couldn’t let that pass without a tip of the hat forstory well told.
Because I’ve shared about the book before, I thought I’d share a bit about Debbie today(although you know the book is ultimately going to make an appearance, right?).
I hooked up with Debbie after readin...
