MEN SPEAK_RANDOM RAMBLINGS

Quite often my husband and I have discussions about our differing perspectives as male and female. We often discuss how we viewed the opposite gender before marriage, and how some of our single friends and family members view the opposite gender now. Just last Friday, we began to have a conversation about women describing men, as opposed to a man describing a man. The conversation went something like this:

ME: Well if I were setting my friend up with a man, I might say he's about 6'1, dark-skinned, slanted, dark brown eyes, with a broad nose. His hair is wavy and he keeps it cut low. He has broad shoulders and a massive chest, and he's muscular. Oh yeah, did I mention he has dimples?
HIM: Why does a woman ask a man to describe another dude if he's hooking the two of them up? I might say something like, he looks like he eats rocks.
ME: That doesn't tell me anything, you guys could say, 'He looks like Denzel,' or 'He looks like Biggie Smalls'. That tells me if I need to stay or run.
HIM: Well, he said that he 'loves it when you call me Big Poppa.'

Other ways that the male and female conversation differs:

Average woman's idea of romance:

Surprise me on a normal day, when it isn't Valentine's Day, or my birthday. Pop up at my job, and take me out to lunch; or bring me a gift to my job, totally unexpected (something that my husband did in our early years). Or, serve me dinner on the back deck with candles underneath the stars, with soft jazz playing in the background. Surprise, surprise, surprise...that's what it's all about for me. And I must say, my husband does understand that about me.

Average man's idea of romance:

How many different ways can I hit that. Flip her this way, turn her that way, twist her this way, and bounce it that way. Now this isn't all men because some men, define it as him and his girl together, just vibing and sharing that same zone and appreciating the moment together.

Women's idea of friendship:

Discussions with their girlfriends about their lives, sharing secrets, shopping and lunching together, and emotional support. Your girl understands when you're in your fierce diva mood, versus your emotional wreck, because he broke your heart mood.

Men's idea of friendship:

Just being cool together, kicking it and keeping it real with one another. They don't turn their backs on one another, and willing to take a risk that the person will be upset with you when you offer real advice. They believe that one another will see the truth through the advice.

MONDAY MOTIVATIONAL MOMENT_STEPS TO SUCCESS

Jason Paris, 2009, Flickr “Deeds not Words” via Bernord Hor
We all have dreams, goals, and desires for our lives. We discuss it, we write them down, we pray on them, we dream about them, and we talk about them some more. Sometimes we become so obsessed with our goals and dreams, that we talk about them to no end. Then when we do not see ourselves progressing towards that goal, or realizing the dream, we wonder why? What happened? What did we miss, and when will it be our turn?

What we failed to realize is that we have spent so much time obsessing over these goals, dreams, and desires that we did not spend time working towards them. We did not put our thoughts into action, or take the steps towards accomplishing them.

Whatever your dream is, it starts with acknowledging it with your mind, heart, and soul. You must own it, embrace it, and realize this is who you are. Then start speaking it out loud, and claiming it as though it were fact. Speak that dream as though it's already a reality. For instance, if you have not published your first book, but you believe you will, thank God for allowing you to be an author. Thank Him for allowing you to touch your readers with your gifts. If you're seeking a new promotion or job, thank Him for the new position that you believe He is going to bless you with.Research what it will take to accomplish your dream, or goal. Then equip yourself with the resources you need to start moving towards that goal.Put into action those steps that will move you towards your goal, or realizing your dream. For my future authors, make it a goal to write daily. It doesn't have to be an entire chapter in your manuscript. But it can be a poem, a blog post, notes about a story idea, your feelings over a given situation, or an outline for a story. Write something...even if it's just notes about something you saw when you were out and about. It can go a long way towards loosening up that creativity inside that's dying to get out.

Whatever your goal or dream may be, take steps to making it a reality. Don't just talk about it, be about it.

AND THE JOURNEY CONTINUES...

Hey glad you stopped by,

So the learning process continues. I am going the self-publishing route now, after a year of frustration with the upstart publishing company I was with. We couldn't adequately track our sales, customer service was non-existent, and it took months to resolve the smallest issue. But I went on to publish a second book with them after receiving a free package...
