23andMe confirms data leak: Personal genetic information for sale on hacker forums

U.S. biotech firm 23andMe’s user data was leaked and is now circulating on hacker forums. 23andMe confirmed the data leak’s authenticity to BleepingComputer and says it believes a credential-stuffing attack is to blame.

23andMe user data offered for sale

A few days ago, 1 million lines of data specific to Ashkenazi individuals began circulating on hacker forums. Then, on Oct. 4, the cybercriminal who had leaked the user-data sample purportedly stolen from 23andMe began offering to sell individual profile datasets for $1-$10 each, with the price varying based on the number of datasets purchased.

23andMe has now confirmed the authenticity of the data to BleepingComputer. A spokesperson indicated that hackers likely used credentials leaked from breaches on other platforms. “We don’t see evidence of a security incident within our systems,” they added.

The information exposed in 23andMe’s user data leak allegedly includes users’ names, locations, birthdays, sex, photos, and genetic ancestry results. BleepingComputer’s own investigation found that the number of sold accounts doesn’t currently match the total number of breached 23andMe accounts.

BleepingComputer noted the breached accounts had activated 23andMe’s DNA Relatives feature, which lets users discover and connect with genetic relatives). Initially accessing only a limited number of accounts, the hacker could then scrape data from the users’ networks of DNA Relative matches.

ReadWrite has not yet independently confirmed these statements but has requested further details on the investigation from 23andMe. Nevertheless, users should always follow proper digital hygiene by never repeating account credentials across websites, using strong passwords, and enabling two-factor authentication when possible. Even though 23andMe offers and recommends using 2fa security, this recent data breach also suggests that networking features like DNA Relatives are yet another vulnerability.

Best Flea & Tick Treatments For Dogs

Prescription-Only Treatments

Certain flea and tick medications, especially oral medications or more potent treatments, may require a prescription from a licensed veterinarian. These medications might contain ingredients that can have stronger effects and may need more careful monitoring by a veterinary professional.

Many owners appreciate these more powerful formulations. In a 2020 study published in the Open Veterinary Journal, the owners of 1,608 dogs were surveyed about their experience with a prescription treatment containing the ectoparasiticide fluralaner. The owners were overwhelmingly “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the treatment.

Some online retailers may offer prescription-only flea and tick medications. In such cases, you may need to provide a valid prescription from your veterinarian to purchase these products.

OTC Treatments

Some flea and tick treatments, especially topical solutions, collars, and shampoos, are available without a prescription in pet stores, supermarkets, and online retailers. These products often contain active ingredients that are considered safe for general use. Some have insecticides like imidacloprid and permethrin. Others have natural alternatives like garlic or brewer’s yeast. Brewer’s yeast may have insect-repellant benefits and garlic has anecdotal backing, but both ingredients lack scientific evidence proving their efficacy. It’s important to note that garlic is considered toxic to dogs, and some experts suggest avoiding even feeding small amounts of the vegetable to your pet.

While some pet owners opt for OTC treatments for their convenience and accessibility, it’s important to consider your dog’s individual health condition, age, size, and any potential interactions with other medications they may be taking. Consulting with a veterinarian can provide personalized advice and help you choose the most appropriate and effective flea and tick treatment for your specific dog.

JUST OUT: President Trump’s Recorded Statement During NYC Deposition Was Just Released – AND IT’S LIT! — TRUMP NEVER BACKS DOWN! | The Gateway Pundit

New footage of Donald Trump legal statement during his New York City deposition is chilling to watch: We’ve never seen Trump like this!

What they are doing to President Trump is unconstitutional and disgusting to watch!

Here is President Trump reading his statement during the bogus case brought against him by Letitia James.

Trump never backs down. That’s why we love this man.
And that’s why the Marxists hate him.

The Office of Letitia James released the video earlier this week from his deposition on August 22, 2022.

Here is the transcript:

Court official: At 09:45 A.m.. Mr. Trump, I understand you have a statement that you wanted to read into the record.

President Trump: Yes.

Court official: Would you please feel free to start. At any time.

President Trump: This is the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country. There has never been another president, or perhaps even another politician who has been persecuted, harassed, and in every other way unfairly treated like President Donald J. Trump. What Letitia James has tried to do the last number of years is a disgrace to the legal system, an affront to the New York State taxpayers, and a violation of the solemn rights and protections afforded by the United States Constitution. She developed a political platform and made a career out of maliciously attacking me and my business. Before she even understood or was elected or reviewed one of the millions of pages of documents we willingly produced, we willingly produced these documents. James proclaimed that she, quote, looks forward to going into the office of Attorney General every day, suing me, and then going home. This is during her campaign. She announced that she was obsessed with, quote, taking me on, taking me on, and that her eyes were set on Trump Tower, quote, Trump Tower. She even assured her supporters as an election promise very strongly that, quote, we’re going to definitely sue him before she even knew anything about me.

We’re going to be a real pain in his ass. He’s going to know my name personally. And she claimed I was on an illegitimate and that it was an illegitimate president, quote, illegitimate president. In her AG speech, she promised to, quote, shine a bright light into every dark corner of Trump’s real estate holdings. Shortly thereafter, she vowed to, quote, use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well. She knows nothing about us. This is when she knew absolutely nothing about us. It was very unfair. This whole thing is very unfair. As a pretense for commencing her bogus investigation, Letitia James relied on the testimony of Michael Cohen, a convicted felon and liar, the Southern District of New York. Astutely described Cohen as a man who, quote, repeatedly used his power and influence for deceptive ends by engaging in, quote, extensive, deliberate, and serious criminal conduct consistent with a, quote, pattern of deception that permeated his professional life. This was in a long, many page statement by him. It only gets worse. This is the witness, a stone cold loser a loser that she used to justify her obsessive work her obsessive.

How many software updates will the Google Pixel 8 get?

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

When Google announced the Pixel 6 series with the in-house Tensor CPU, enthusiasts hoped for longer software support on the Pixel series. To everyone’s surprise, the search giant stuck with the same three years of OS updates and five years of security patches. With the introduction of the Pixel 8 series, Google finally sets the bar high with seven years of Android system and security updates.

QUICK ANSWER

The Pixel 8 series launches with the Android 14 OS built-in. It will receive seven Android platform updates and security patches. Google will update your Pixel 8 to Android 21 at least, and you shall receive security updates until October 2030.

JUMP TO KEY SECTIONS

How many Android updates will the Pixel 8 get?

The Google Pixel 8 series hits the shelves with Android 14 out of the box. Google promises to support it until the end of the decade. This means the Pixel 8 should receive seven major Android OS updates until Android 21 in 2030.

Google also has you covered for Pixel 8 spare parts over that period. After all, the Pixel 8 hardware, especially the battery, may not keep up with software support over time.

How many security updates will the Pixel 8 get?google pixel 8 pro vs pixel 8 front

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Google advertises the same seven years of security updates for the Pixel 8 series. Since the Pixel 8 launched in October 2023, you can expect to receive security patches until October 2023 at least.

Google hasn’t promised security updates beyond seven years. However, don’t be surprised if the search giant supports the latest Pixel flagship with critical patches beyond the promised timeline.

The company usually releases security updates on the first working Monday of the month. However, sometimes, Google runs into last-minute bugs and may delay the monthly patch for a specific month.

How many Pixel Feature Drops will the Pixel 8 get?

As the name suggests, Pixel Feature Drops add Pixel-exclusive features to your compatible Pixel phone. Unlike Android updates and security patches, Google doesn’t stick with a specific release cycle for Pixel Feature Drops. The company rolls out these add-ons every few months.

Looking at past trends, Google releases Pixel Feature Drop once a quarter. You can expect around four Feature Drops in a year. Google recently released the October 2023 Feature Drop, while the previous one came in June 2023. We expect another Pixel Feature Drop before the end of the year.

As for the Pixel 8 series, it should receive the Feature Drops up until the end of 2030. However, some Pixel Feature Drop features won’t come to older Pixel devices.

How does the Pixel 8 software update promise compare to the competition?Apple iPhone 15 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra cameras

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

With seven years of software support on the Pixel 8, Google now has the best phone update policy in the industry.

Before the Pixel 8 launch, Samsung was the software updates king, offering four major OS upgrades and five years of security patches for some of its Galaxy devices. However, unlike Google, Samsung doesn’t release the latest Android system update to all compatible phones at the same time. Flagship devices receive the newest Android-based One UI update first, followed by mid-rangers and older flagships. The South Korean giant is quick and sometimes even beats Google to the punch with monthly security updates.

OnePlus and Xiaomi also match Samsung with four years of OS updates and five years of security patches on their flagship offerings.

Apple doesn’t outline any software update policy for iPhones. The company usually supports its phones for five to six years. For example, the iPhone X originally shipped with iOS 11 at launch in November 2017. It received iOS updates until iOS 16 in 2022.

FAQsWhen do Pixel updates come out?

Pixel devices receive a major Android update once a year. Google usually releases it between August and October. The company first kicks off a beta program, allowing users to try new features and share their feedback.

When is the next Google Pixel update?

Google has released the Android 14 update to compatible Pixel smartphones this month. The next major Pixel update will arrive around the same time in 2024.

Are Pixel updated as quickly as iPhones?

Yes, all the compatible Pixel phones receive the major Android update on day one.

Wagner, Cocaine and Hand Grenades: Vladimir Putin Suggests Plane Crash That Killed Prigozhin Was Caused by Drugged Fighters Detonating Device Inside the Aircraft | The Gateway Pundit

The last months in the life of Wagner PMC chief Yevgeny Prigozhin were the stuff of modern legend, filled with glory, infamy and tragedy.

His trajectory, from victory in Bakhmut (now called Artemovsk), the biggest battle since WWII, to the ‘treasonous insurrection’ against the Russian government and Military, culminated in a spectacular – if horrifying  – fashion.

Prigozhin died when his business jet crashed on 23 August, a mere two months after the staged aborted mutiny against Russian military commanders saw his Wagner mercenary troops take control of Rostov and advance towards Moscow.

The crash of his fiery plane was caught on video, and broadcast all around the planet.

Now, for the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the cause of the crashm claiming that the plane crash that killed Yevgeny Prigozhin and two top advisers may have been caused by hand grenades detonating inside the aircraft, and further speculated that the Wagner boss may have been on drugs.

The Guardian reported:

“’Fragments of hand grenades were found in the bodies of those killed in the crash’, Putin told a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club think-tank in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

‘There was no external impact on the plane – this is already an established fact’, Putin said, contradicting reports by western intelligence services that said a bomb was the likely reason behind the crash.”

WATCH:

Putin implied that alcohol and drugs could have played a role in the crash.

“’Unfortunately, no examination was carried out to determine the presence of alcohol or drugs in the blood of the victims’, Putin said.

‘Although we know … that the FSB discovered not only 10bn roubles in cash, but also 5kg of cocaine’, he said, referring to the stacks of cash and drugs that the security services allegedly discovered during a search of Prigozhin’s mansion after his failed rebellion.”

Putin said ‘there was no external influence’ on the Embraer Legacy 600 jet, which burned and crashed while flying between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Politico reported:

“The body of 62-year-old Prigozhin was buried at a private ceremony less than a week after he and his lieutenants died in the plane crash. The incident sparked rampant speculation of foul play from the Kremlin, coming just two months to the day after Prigozhin launched an insurrection against Russia’s top brass and had his fighters march on Moscow.

Putin had initially described the putsch as “treason” but, speaking days after his former ally’s death, softened his tone. “He was a man with a complex fate. [Sometimes] he made mistakes; and [sometimes] he got the results he wanted — for himself and in response to my requests, for a common cause,” the Russian president said.”

Putin further stated that there were ‘no private military companies in Russia’, because there was no law to regulate them.

New York Times reported:

“Mr. Putin began by saying it was the Russian Defense Ministry that had brought the extralegal mercenary force into the war effort in the first place, in a manner that he described as ‘clumsy’.

‘It was caused by the requirements of the current situation on the battlefield, to put it bluntly’, Mr. Putin said. ‘And when the Defense Ministry proposed that units from this company participate in military action, I didn’t refuse’.”

Google Pixel 8 vs Google Pixel 8 Pro: What’s the difference?

Google has finally announced its latest Pixel phones, packing new features such as the faster G3 Tensor processor, 120Hz display and enhanced autofocus for the camera.

But with Google launching both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro simultaneously, many will likely be wondering which represents the best value.

We’ve highlighted the key differences between the Google Pixel 8 and the Google Pixel 8 Pro below, so keep reading on for the full breakdown.

Google Pixel 8 Pro has a better ultrawide camera

The Google Pixel phone range has become synonymous for its excellent camera quality, so we expect the same for the latest crop. That said, it looks like Google has saved the best camera specs for the Pro, fitting a 48MP ultrawide camera onto the rear.

For comparison, the standard Pixel 8 has a 12MP rear camera instead. The megapixel count is not always a fair reflection on the quality of the camera alone, as the likes of software and AI can have a big impact. But when comparing two phones made by the same company, it’s fair to assume that the Google Pixel 8 Pro will be more capable of capturing highly detailed images with a wide field of view.

Both phones also feature a main 50MP sensor too, so there may not be a huge difference for standard snaps. Although the Google Pixel 8 Pro has a third camera, which we’ll speak more about in the next section…

Pixel 8 Pro has a 30x Super Res Zoom

The Google Pixel 8 Pro features a 48MP telephoto lens, allowing for a 5x optical zoom. The Google Pixel 8 lacks a telephoto camera, only seeing a dual-camera setup instead. This means it’s not capable of an optical zoom.

Google also makes use of its Super Res Zoom feature for both phones, which uses AI to capture clear images of faraway subjects. The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a Super Res Zoom of up to 30x, while the Google Pixel 8 is limited to an 8x AI-assisted zoom.

This indicates that the Google Pixel 8 Pro is comfortably the better phone when it comes to snapping photos of faraway objects, whether you’re using the optical zoom or the AI-assisted one.

Google Pixel 8Google Pixel 8Google Pixel 8Pixel 8 Pro has a thermometer

One of the most peculiar new features of the Google Pixel 8 Pro is the inclusion of a thermometer. With an infrared sensor built into the phone, users are able to place the Pixel 8 Pro close to their forehead or temple in order to record their temperature.

This isn’t exactly a feature on the top of most people’s wishlist, but it makes a lot of sense to have the ability to use your phone as a thermometer, especially in a post-COVID world.

Google is reserving the thermometer as an exclusive feature for the Pro model right now, so it’s not available on the standard Google Pixel 8. I’m sure this won’t be a deciding factor for most, but it’s still a nice bonus to have.

Pixel 8 has a smaller screen

Those who like small phones may be tempted to opt for the Pixel 8 instead of the Pro model. The Google Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch panel, making it noticeably smaller than the 6.7-inch display of the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

This will make it easier to hold and type on the Google Pixel 8, although those who like to watch video on their phone may be more tempted by the larger Google Pixel 8 Pro instead.

Google has been generous enough to upgrade both phones to a 120Hz refresh rate, but only the Pixel 8 Pro is capable of switching between 1Hz and 120Hz in order to help save battery life. The standard Pixel 8 can only drop as low as 60Hz.

Pixel 8 is more affordable

Google has confirmed that Pixel 8 will cost $699, making it more expensive than the $599 Pixel 7 when it first appeared in stores.

With Google stuffing the Pixel 8 Pro with extra features, there’s no surprise that it has a more expensive price at $999. That makes it a whopping $300 more expensive than the standard Pixel 8.

Whether the Pixel 8 Pro justifies that extra $300 is debatable, but the addition of a telephoto camera, larger screen and temperature sensor will likely make a difference.

City of Portland Tells Residents Not to Call 911 ‘Except in Event of Life/Death Emergency’ | The Gateway Pundit

Police in the progressive haven of Portland, Oregon are telling residents not to call 911 ‘except in event of life/death emergency.’

Certain parts of the United States are regressing into the wild wild west as crime surges with less resources.

This is a good reminder to be prepared for anything. There is no guarantee that the police will be able to help you or even to respond in an emergency.

PJ Media reports:

‘Your Call Cannot Be Completed as Dialed.’ Portland Asks Residents Not to Call 911

The chickens continue to come home to roost for progressive cities. While it is tempting to make remarks about savoring the schadenfreude of the various moments, karma being a b***h, or getting what one voted for, it is more like driving by a fatal car accident on the highway. Mainly because for every arrogant progressive who is getting a proverbial snootful from the uptick of crime due to Democrat policies, there are people who are getting caught in the crossfire…

News Nation reports that on Monday, Portland’s safety commissioner, Rene Gonzalez, announced via social media:

Our 911 system is getting hammered this morning with a multiple person incident — multiple overdoses in northwest park blocks. Please do not call 911 except in event of life/death emergency or crime in progress (or chance of apprehending suspect). For non-emergency please use 503-823-3333.

Appearing on the show “On Balance,” Gonzalez told host Leland Vittert that the system was swamped and something had to be done. She said that Measure 110, which decriminalized the possession of drugs and reduced many felonies to misdemeanors, was supposed to provide support services to addicts. However, the effort was curtailed due to the arrival of COVID-19.

Isn’t this why people pay taxes? So that the police will respond when they call?

Why do people put up with this?

Google Pixel 8 Pro vs Google Pixel 7 Pro: Should you upgrade?

Google has officially announced the Google Pixel 8 Pro, a new high-end flagship smartphone from the Pixel range.

Google has fitted the phone with numerous upgrades compared to the older Google Pixel 7 Pro. But are they enough to convince you to upgrade?

We’ve created this comparison guide to highlight the most important differences between the Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Google Pixel 7 Pro, so keep on reading to find out the most exciting upgrades.

Pixel 8 Pro is powered by the Tensor G3 chip

The most notable upgrade for the Google Pixel 8 Pro is the new Tensor G3 processor, which should provide a big performance boost compared to the preceding Tensor G2 chip inside the Pixel 7 series. The Tensor G3 chip is built on a 4nm process, which is an upgrade on the larger and less efficient 5nm process of the G2.

The new Tensor G3 chip has 9 cores and a max clock speed of 2914MHz. For comparison, the older G2 chip has 8 cores and a max clock speed of 2850MHz. The new GPU should also boost graphics power, with 10 cores and support for hardware-based ray tracing

The Tensor G3 chip also has boosted AI performance, with Google claiming the Pixel 8 Pro can now detect and filter out more spam calls, while also improving Clear Call to prevent background noise disturbing your chats.

iPhone 15 Pro Max contract is an undeniable bargain

Looking for a cheaper way to get the iPhone 15 Pro Max? Mobiles UK has the answer. It’s £249.99 down and then £43.99 a month for 100GB of monthly data.

Improved camera

The Google Pixel 8 Pro and Google Pixel 7 Pro share the same 50MP rear wide lens, although Google says there’s now 21% more light sensitivity for low-light shots. Google claims there’s faster autofocus now too, especially in low-light conditions.

The Google 7 Pro features a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, whereas the Google Pixel 8 Pro has a 48MP ultrawide camera with ‘upgraded’ autofocus instead. Google says this lens captures 105% more light than that on the Pixel 7 Pro, while also being able to focus 30% closer for improved Macro Focus performance.

Video quality has been improved too, with Real Tone offering more accurate capture of human skin tones, while Video Boost uses computational power to improve the quality of recorded video. Night Sight Video will also enhance the quality of videos in dark environments.

Google Pixel 8 ProGoogle Pixel 8 ProGoogle Pixel 8 ProPixel 8 Pro has a thermometer

One new Google Pixel 8 Pro feature that caught us by surprise is the inclusion of a thermometer, allowing you to check your temperature with a smartphone.

By having a thermometer integrated into the smartphone, users will be able to quickly check whether they have a high temperature and need to call in sick. It should be a useful tool to have, as very few people carry a thermometer around with them on a daily basis.

Google has demonstrated that using the thermometer is an easy process, as you simply hover the phone above your forehead or temple, and hold it in place until you feel the phone vibrate. Then you’ll be given a temperature reading.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro lacks this feature, so you’ll need to purchase the latest iteration of Google’s Pro series in order to benefit from the integrated thermometer.

New colour options

Google has spiced up the colour options for the Pixel 8 Pro, with only Obsidian Black making the cut from the previous generation. That means the Snow and Hazel colourways of the Google Pixel 7 Pro will not be available this time round.

Instead, Google is introducing the new Bay Blue and Porcelain colour options, arguably making the phones look brighter than their predecessors. Otherwise, the design hasn’t changed much, with a metal band that houses the cameras running across the rear of the phone. The same Google logo can also be found on the back.

Whether these new colour options are a good or bad tweak will come down to personal preference, although the Trusted Reviews team is a big fan of the new blue design.

UPDATE: Donald Trump Officially Endorses Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House | The Gateway Pundit

Getty Images

In a recent development, President Donald Trump officially endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker of the House late Thursday night.

This comes as a surprise to many, especially considering Trump announced early Thursday he would accept House speakership for a ‘short period’ while Republicans decide on a permanent replacement.

Donald Trump recently issued a statement on Truth Social declaring his intentions.

“I am running for President, have a 62 Point lead over Republicans, and am up on Crooked Joe Biden, despite the Democrat Party’s massive Law-fare, Weaponization, and Election Interference efforts, by 4 to 11 Points, but will do whatever is necessary to help with the Speaker of the House selection process, short term, until the final selection of a GREAT REPUBLICAN SPEAKER is made – A Speaker who will help a new, but highly experienced President, ME, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

The Gateway Pundit reported earlier that Trump is considering a trip to Congress ahead of the Speaker vote. According to Politico, Trump may make a trip to Congress where he is open to pitching himself as a candidate for Speaker.

On Thursday night, Rep. Troy Nehls took to social media to share the news, stating, “Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race. He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party. I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.”

Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race.

He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party.

I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.

— Congressman Troy E. Nehls (@RepTroyNehls) October 6, 2023

Recall that Congressman Troy Nehls announced that he will nominate former President Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House and said he has been “contacted by multiple Members of Congress willing to support and offer nomination speeches for Donald J. Trump to be Speaker of the House.”

“When the U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes, my first order of business will be to nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives,” Nehls said in a statement.

“President Trump, the greatest President of my lifetime, has a proven record of putting America First and will make the House great again,” he added.

Nehls wrote, “I’ve been contacted by multiple Members of Congress willing to support and offer nomination speeches for Donald J. Trump to be Speaker of the House. Next week is going to be HUGE.”

However, in a conversation with Trump, Rep. Troy Nehls revealed that the former President plans to endorse Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.

In a late-night post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump formally gave his endorsement to Representative Jordan.

Read the full statement below:

“Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District. Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

As President, I had the honor of presenting Jim with our Country’s highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom. So much is learned from sports, and Jim was a master! While attending Graham High School, he won State Championships all four years, a rarity, and compiled an amazing 156-1 record.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jim became a two-time NCAA Division l Wrestling Champion. He won his 1985-86 NCAA Championship Matches in his weight class.

Jim has a masters degree in Education from Ohio State University & a Law Degree from Capital University. He is STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment. Jim, his wife, Polly, & family are outstanding – He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!

The Gateway Pundit reported Wednesday that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) launched a bid for House Speaker.

“We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history. Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promise to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable. We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference,” Chairman Jordan wrote.

“I respectfully ask for your support for Speaker of the House of Representatives,” Rep. Jordan said in a letter to his colleagues.

Rep. Jim Jordan revealed on Thursday that he had discussed his bid for Speaker of the House with former President Donald Trump, NBC reported.

Jordan, a staunch ally of Trump, declined to confirm whether the former President supports his bid but described their conversation as “great.”

“I talked to the president about this and all kinds of issues,” Jordan said. “I don’t want to say anything, but I had a great conversation with the president.”

Jordan also addressed the issue of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who has been the subject of discussions about possible removal from the Republican Conference. Gaetz has faced criticism for his role in the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the Speaker’s post. Jordan said he would not support efforts to oust Gaetz, describing him as a “talented member of Congress.”

“I don’t think that’s warranted,” Jordan said. “We’ve got a four-seat majority; Matt’s a talented member of Congress. I disagree with what he did … but he’s a great member of our committee. … I think we’ve got to come together.”

When asked about the possibility of changing House rules that allow a single member to make a motion to remove a Speaker, Jordan was non-committal. “That’s a conference decision,” he said, adding that if the conference wants to change the rule, he would support it.

This story has been updated with additional information.

Google Pixel 8 Pro vs Google Pixel Fold: What’s the difference?

Google has lifted the lid on its latest flagship smartphones, the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro, but how does the latter compare to Google’s top-end phone, the Google Pixel Fold?

While the two smartphones have very different focuses, there are plenty of similarities – and even more differences – between the two flagship smartphones. We’re yet to go hands-on with the Pixel 8 Pro, but we have spent ample time with the Google Pixel Fold and know what makes it tick.

With that in mind, here are the key differences between the Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Google Pixel Fold.

The Google Pixel Fold is a foldable

Let’s get the most obvious difference out of the way first: the Google Pixel Fold is a foldable smartphone, while the Pixel 8 Pro is a traditional Candybar smartphone with a rigid design.

More specifically, the Google Pixel Fold sports a book-style foldable design with a small 5.8-inch display on the outside and a larger 7.6-inch foldable display found within.

Unlike the popular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Pixel Fold boasts a shorter and squatter design that we were huge fans of, offering a better cover display experience with a less boxy internal display – though the different approach to aspect ratio means that there are plenty of apps that don’t work on the Pixel Fold’s unique internal aspect ratio.

That’s not something you’ll have to worry about with the Pixel 8 Pro, however, with a redesigned (but still very familiar) chassis to make the phone feel nicer in the hand than last year’s 7 Pro, and with a 6.7-inch display, it measures in practically the same too.

Though not quite as exciting as a foldable, the Pixel 8 Pro should be more durable with a combination of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and IP68 protection.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a newer chipset

One of the key upgrades of the Pixel 8 Pro is the new Google-developed Tensor G3 chipset, replacing the outgoing Tensor G2 chipset found on everything from the budget Pixel 7a to the top-end Pixel Fold.

We had no real problem with the performance of the Google Pixel Fold; while it’s not quite as powerful as top-end chipsets like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the phone was perfectly capable of delivering a top-end experience free of stutter and lag.

And, with the chipset’s focus on AI, it enabled the Pixel Fold to do some pretty fun things, from automatic music recognition as you go about your day to call screening that allows Google Assistant to answer the phone on your behalf. There’s also a bunch of camera features that rely on the AI power – but more on that in a bit.

Now, that AI focus hasn’t changed with the newer Tensor G3 chipset found in the Pixel 8 Pro, but it should deliver a solid boost to both general performance and its AI capabilities, with Google promising improvement to AI tech like enhanced call clarity.

We can’t get too specific on performance and how it compares in real-world use just yet, however, as we’re yet to go hands-on with the latest flagship.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro has more advanced camera tech

The Google Pixel Fold currently has the distinction of being the best foldable for photography in our roundup of the best foldable phones, and for good reason too.

Though the hardware – 48MP main, 10.8MP ultrawide and 10.8MP 5x telephoto – may not be able to compete with most candybar flagships, coupled with Google’s AI smarts, the Pixel Fold delivered consistently well-lit and colour-accurate images that aren’t as saturated as what you’ll find from the likes of Samsung, and the zoom lens added a level of versatility we don’t always see in the foldable market.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro, on the other hand, looks to take the photography experience to the next level with a combination of upgraded hardware and new software capabilities exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro.

In terms of hardware, you’ll find a boosted 50MP main, 48MP ultrawide and matching 48MP 5x zoom lens complete with multi-zone laser-detect autofocus for rapid focus capabilities. That’s coupled with a new exclusive Pro shooting mode to customise the capture settings beyond what you’d usually find on a Pixel phone, and it also has the ability to deliver high-res images from those high-res sensors too.

On top of this, it can also do pretty much everything that the Pixel Fold can in terms of photo and editing prowess, with access to the same features like Night Sight, Super Res Zoom and Magic Eraser that made the Pixel Fold such a tempting foldable for photography.

While we’re yet to test the camera prowess of the Google Pixel 8 Pro, it certainly sounds like a capable beast on paper.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a longer software promise

Google has long had one of the better long-term software promises on the Android side of things – and that shouldn’t come as much surprise considering Google literally develops the Android OS its phones run on. For the past few years, that has meant that Google devices – including the Pixel Fold – boast a promise of 3 OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches.

That’s pretty competitive compared to the likes of Asus, offering just one OS upgrade with its flagship ZenFone 10 earlier this year, though it does fall short of Samsung’s 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches found on the likes of the Galaxy S23.

That’s something Google is looking to rectify with both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, with both flagships boasting an upgraded 7 years of OS upgrades and security patches, making it the most compelling long-term software promise of any Android manufacturer.

The Google Pixel Fold is much more expensive

Despite the various benefits of the Pixel 8 Pro when compared to its foldable brethren, it’s actually cheaper – and by quite a bit too. That’s because the Google Pixel Fold is one of the most expensive phones on the market at a whopping £1,749/$1,799, making it comfortably more than the £999 Google Pixel 8 Pro.

The Pixel 8 Pro is up for pre-order now, while the Google Pixel Fold has been available to buy in the US and UK since late June 2023.
