So sorry to have left this for so long! I didn't realize the question was here.

I did just keep pounding out query letters until I found my match. There was a first novel out there that never quite caught, so Three Graves Full was actually the second book I'd written, first to get picked up.

All the best to you and your work! Thank you for the kind words.(less)

So the original artwork, with the ribbon and the rings, is for the hardcover. It's gorgeous. I loved it. They only ever did one cover design and I was on board with no suggestions.

But a review that came up for Monday's Lie had them rethink it. The reviewer loved the book (yay!) but he thought that the cover looked too exclusively like women's fiction, which, he noted, the book was not.

So the people over at Gallery saw this review and decided to do a redesign for the paperback release.

That cover is also gorgeous. I love it.

But they sent me a big, beautifully mounted poster of it and it's too creepy to actually hang in my office. I can't figure out what to do with it. : )

The Same Gift Twice

I can almost remember what I used to keep in the little painted box. Seeing it now pulls at eight-year-old me, still there, deep in my memory under every day that has piled layers over that little girl out there in some quantum eternity, stashing her treasures in an empty candy tin her father sent her.

There was a beaded bracelet, I remember. And a pretty rock I kept inside a stiff-hinged velv

I am such a fan of Josh Stallings. He's a brilliant writer and TRICKY is something different in the crime genre. More heart with no loss of grit and tension.

I love this book.

“Most nightmares are caged in their realm by implausibilities. The sleeper slogs through quicksand in a fun house of frightening nonsense and disjointed mumbo jumbo. But everything’s all better once the bedside lamp is back on, because reality, even when it’s bad, is easily distinguished from night terror. Except for the trying-to-scream dream. That one’s pretty much spot-on.”

“If home is where the heart is, Jason has lived in his throat for a long time.”

“Guilt wears track shoes. Sprint, marathon, or cross-country, it doesn’t matter. It runs tireless to catch you, and it carries a sledgehammer.”
