A Book Review for Opal Wine

Opal Wine Book Review

Gotta tell you that anthropomorphic animals are not my thing. Yet, I found myself enjoying this collection.

Alan Loewen has a subtlety in his writing that made me forget that many of his characters were not human. They have problems, same as we do and the author’s skill kept me stuck inside his pages for the rest of the stories. They are short stories, written so well that even the shortest of them ‘Festival of Masks’ gave me the feel of a much larger story as I read it....

This review is from: Huntsman (The Hunted Mage Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)

This story grabbed me from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down! It is written so well, that I found myself inside the story time and time again! Every page was read, nothing skimmed even in an unfamiliar place and time setting. Regardless of your tastes in books, this is a MUST READ! Brilliantly written.

Can’t wait for the second...

Would recommend this book. I loved the historical references of Scandinavia – that was very interesting. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

A few more locations to find Huntsman…

Smashwords, which I used to publish Huntsman for e-book formats not covered by Kindle, Nook or Paperback, distributes to numerous book outlets across the internets.

I have been looking for them and I now find that, gradually, most of these now carry my e-book on their virtual shelves.

The Sony Reader Store,

Diesel (which I had never heard of, heretofore…)

and the iTunes Store.

Some explanation for iTunes: Of course I can give no link for iTunes because it’s iTunes and they go through the separate...

A new Video Trailer…

Slowly but surely, I progress.

This is the third video trailer for Huntsman. I wanted there to be a video teaser for each protagonist for Book One and now…we do!

I have enjoyed the video making process. It is always a challenge to take a character’s story and distill it down to a sentence or two for the videos. It is a great exercise.

I am turning my efforts to finishing up some loose ends of Book Two: Dagger and will begin in a month or two with some preview trailers to introduce two new charac...

This just in…

Wow. Un-blogged for seven days…not good!

But what a week. I have a new appreciation for the phrase ‘When it rains, it pours!’ I have been muddling along through a period of unemployment since late October and times are getting a little tight around here.

I have applied to dozens of positions in my field and dozens for management in general with no results.

And this week I get two offers for part-time work and a call from another potential full-time position. My wife has found a part-time positio...

This review is from: Huntsman: The Hunted Mage Trilogy (Volume 1) (Paperback)

This book transports you to a long ago time and place where magic runes existed and dragons roamed. The exquisite details in the settings are captivating. The realm of magic, is so intricate and like nothing else I’ve read.

From the tragic opening, following the lives of the three main characters, the story unfolds and we see how they start to intertwi...

An Excerpt of Chapter 13 of Dagger

~From Book Two of the Hunted Mage Trilogy~

The steady clang of hammer on iron made his head ache.

Eyulf drew a forearm across his brow and wiped the sweat from it. With eyebrows seared off and the skin of his brows burned to a waxen lump, the stinging sweat would only drip into his eyes. It could be born now as he rested from his part of the labor, but not as he drew the magic forth and wrapped the metal in its folds. A distraction like that could finish what he had survived in his father’s cel...

Okay…I’m Back! With a birthday sale!

It has been one of those busy ‘Cape Cod in August’ weeks…the kind with house guests and summer library program events and the best of all: The Wiggles in concert at the Melody Tent in Hyannis!

(If I may digress for just a moment into a ‘Dad’ rabbit trail: how much do the Wiggles ROCK? 21 years of performance and they still draw hordes of little children and give them a wild, exciting concert! Greg (yellow) is back after leaving the group due to illness and when we heard he would be gone again...

Excerpt from Chapter 17 of Dagger

~From Book Two of the Hunted Mage Trilogy~

They walked in silence for some time. Aila’s hand lay on his crooked arm and Wyman’s free hand reached out to brush the new leaves that sprouted upon the shrubbery they passed.

It was a favorite path that lay just outside the town and curled around a pair of small ponds. They did not have a garden at the keep as she was accustomed to from her father’s home. She found she now preferred the untamed woods to the controlled growth of a private garden.
