I don't believe in writer's block as its own thing.

Yes, sometimes it's hard to write. But that's not the mystical "writer's block." That's fear of failure, or a grumpy inner editor, or lack of confidence, or a knotted plot, or just being tired. Or a million other things.

And the way around it is to just keep writing. I say, "Screw it. I have to write," and I put one word down, then the next. (less)

Just sitting and playing out scenarios and getting to know the personalities and backgrounds of new, exciting people who will have (or have had) amazing adventures.

And with the daydreaming comes the sketching and drawing, taking notes and asking questions. Doodling in a notebook.

I get to explore new worlds and new people, and then get to share them with other people. And all put together, it's a pretty great gig. (less)

A Little Satire for Parents (and Anyone Who’s Been a Kid Athlete)

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, a satire site that I’m often giggling at, decided they liked my piece of writing and published it.

Here’s a little humor piece I hope you enjoy. It’s called, “A Parent’s Guide to Surviving the Terribleness of Youth Sports.”
