How do you feel about your story finally being told?
Well, I’ve always been a public figure, but I was hesitant because there were just too many nuances about my family history that I would have preferred remained buried in a cave. But, once I rolled back the first layer of secrets, I knew I had to go the distance.
Did you ever consider ignoring your grandfather’s dying wishes?
No, my pappoús was like a father to me since I was six and lost my father. I loved him dearly and would do anything for him. I would have climbed a mountain barefoot if he’d asked me to.
What was the most difficult part of your journey to HEA?
Facing my demons—the ones that developed when I was a child and had only grown stronger as I grew into a man. As I got to know Xio, so many emotions that I had buried years and years ago came bubbling to the surface, and I was forced to decide what I really did or didn’t want out of life.
What attracts you the most about Xiomara?
Her passion. She was full of it the moment I met her and it has only intensified as I get to know her better. She’s passionate about everything—making Jewel Beach a success and restoring it to its former glory, taking care of her younger siblings, being there for her mother and great-grandmother. She’s a very independent and driven woman, and she doesn’t take crap from anyone, least of all me.
Did there ever come a time when you felt like giving up and going home?
Not really. Within the first few hours after I landed in Akilina, I learned so much about my grandparents. But there were still too many unanswered questions––things that left a sour taste in my mouth. I knew I couldn’t leave without learning the truth about us––about them. There was too much at stake. I couldn’t go back to San Francisco with the mystery and the secrets hanging over my head. I couldn’t go on with my life without knowing the truth about my family’s past.
Now that you’ve been given a tour of Akilina, will you take Xiomara to Santorini?
Of course! I’d love to show her where I was born and lived for the first six years of my life. Santorini may not have as unique a history as Akilina, but there is still magic on my island. Although, anywhere with her is pure magic…

How do you feel about your story finally being told?
I’ve always been a private person—you have to be when you’re living on a small island—and I don’t appreciate folks knowing my business, passing judgement, and criticizing me when they don’t know the complete story. Also, I’ve been hurt before, so I was skeptical about putting it all out there in the public. I mean, what if it didn’t work out? What if I fell in love with him and got my heart broken again? I was scared, but when I realized that my story wasn’t something I could run away from, I took a deep breath and plunged into it.
What was the most difficult part of your journey to HEA?
I had to get past being hurt two times—letting go of the anger and humiliation, but most importantly the way I saw myself as a woman. I had allowed what my exes thought of me, and said to and about me, to become my truth. It was difficult because I had to revisit those moments of pain and humiliation and find a way to let them go.
What is your favorite part about living in Akilina?
The beautiful landscape. No matter where you turn, nature smiles at you through rivers, cascading waterfalls, rolling mountains, and lush valleys. We have the Caribbean Sea on one side, and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, and warm weather all year long. It’s truly paradise. I can’t imagine living anywhere else!
What was your first impression of Raph?
He was the hottest piece of eye-candy I had ever seen. His voice shook me to my core and his sexy green eyes made it damn near impossible for me to focus on anything but him! He had this confident and compelling presence about him, but also an air of isolation, like he didn’t want anyone to get too close. I later understood why.
When did you know that you could trust Raph?
I started trusting him when I saw how he was with my little sister and brother. He was so attentive, and he cared that they felt comfortable around him, especially my teenage sister. But I knew for sure when he told me exactly what he wanted from me. He wasn’t a pretender.
What do you find most attractive about Raph?
Physically, I love his hands. They’re large and strong. It was hard to keep from imagining them all over me, but the real thing was way better than any of my fantasies…. Reader, you have been warned, lol. But Raph is also gentle, intelligent, patient, and funny. He says the craziest things at the most unexpected times. He makes me laugh.
What does the future hold in store for you?
I’d say that the future is bright. I’m more determined than ever to put Jewel Beach Resort at the top of everyone’s vacation bucket list. Akilina has so much to offer, and I want to share my island’s beauty, history, and culture with the world while I share my life with the man of my dreams.

Santorini, Greece…
It was happening again.
Raph scowled at the six-foot, three-inch man staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Fatigue had settled in pockets under his sleep-deprived eyes, and a black five o’clock shadow covered his olive skin. He took great pride in his appearance, but with the circumstances of the last week and a half, especially the last few hours, grooming had been the furthest thing from his mind.
Bending under the weight of sadness and unease, he turned on the faucet, splashed cold water on his face, then threaded his wet hands through his rumpled hair, pressing the black strands against the collar of his white shirt. Lifting a clean towel from a stack on the counter, he dried his face and eyed his reflection again. He still looked disheveled, but at least he felt somewhat refreshed.
He exited the bathroom and, ignoring the hum of voices coming from the living room, he headed in the opposite direction toward the large oak door at the end of the hall. As soon as he opened it, the smell of ammonia and antiseptic flooded his nostrils and the sound of air being forced through congested lungs filled his ears.
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Raph strolled over to the bed and gazed at the ninety-three-year-old patriarch of the Giannopoulos family sleeping in the middle of the bed. His wraithlike body was propped up by pillows on each side, and his skin was so pallid, he was almost indistinguishable from the white cotton sheet beneath him...

An Authors' Forum in St Kitts
At the end of April, I participated in a panel discussion at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in St Kitts with other authors from St Kitts and Nevis. It was a pleasure to meet my fellow writers, chat with fans, and speak to a new audience about what drove me to write romance novels in the first place.
It started with a love of reading on my small island of Nevis, where, growing up, I devoured up to three books a week. I read everything from Mills & Boons, to Silhouette and Harlequin, to Regency and Historical. There was one point when I went to the library and found that I had read every novel on the shelves, and I had to wait, rather impatiently, for the next shipment of books to arrive from England and the U.S....

Confession: I love superhero and fantasy movies. So, when Black Panther hit the big screen in 2018, like everyone else in the world, I was hooked and immediately drawn into this alternative reality. I loved the idea of an African country that did not suffer the trauma of colonization and exploitation, where traditions carried on unadulterated by outside influence, and where the land’s natural resources were not owned by foreign corporations who care little for the local communities.
Wakanda was a sight to behold––the rich cultural traditions, the clothing, the music. I wanted to book a seat on the next flight there!
In the days and months after seeing Black Panther, I started to think “what if?”....
