‘We know where you live’: Political violence on trial this week over threats to Trump voters
(Photo by Joe Kovacs)Last October, ahead of the 2024 presidential race, several Pennsylvania residents with pro-Donald Trump yard signs found threats in their mailboxes.
“Should your candidate win, the consequences will be staggering. … But more importantly, we know where you live, you are in the database. In the dead of a cold winters [sic] night, this year, or next and beyond, there is no knowing what may happen,” one of the letters said, according to documents in a federal voter intimidation lawsuit. “Your property, your family may be impacted, your cat may get shot. And more. … Your vote for this guy is treading on my rights. You tread on me at your peril.”
On Wednesday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania will hear arguments in the case of two Trump supporters in Eastern Pennsylvania who received such messages. They are in court attempting to compel authorities to investigate who sent them.
Plaintiffs Robert Butwin Jr. and Janet Schmidt are represented by the Public Interest Legal Foundation, a watchdog group.
At least 40 known Trump supporters in the state received similar letters, said J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation.
“Political violence is unacceptable,” Adams told The Daily Signal. “To threaten someone just for having a Trump sign in their yard is significant. This has happened to scores of people.”
Adams said that the assassination last week of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, shows the danger political violence poses in the United States.
The plaintiffs’ lawsuit contends the letters are illegal voter intimidation and specifically violate both the federal Voting Rights Act and the federal Ku Klux Klan Act, both of which prohibit voter intimidation.
The complaint, filed in May, says the plaintiffs and others the legal foundation is aware of got almost identical letters through the U.S. Postal Service with threats to their property, families, and pets.
The case is Butwin Jr. and Schmidt v. John Doe 1 and John Doe 2, because the source of the threats is unknown. The lawsuit seeks to compel an investigation by state and federal law enforcement agencies and also seeks permission from the court to conduct discovery within those agencies to identify those responsible.
The plaintiffs are also asking the court to permanently bar the defendants they hope to identify from further intimidation and to uphold the rights of citizens to engage in political expression without fear of retribution, according to the legal foundation.
Adams said if the targets had been Democrats, there would likely be arrests by now.
“We’ve asked for law enforcement, the Pennsylvania State Police, and local police, as well as the U.S. Postal inspector to do their job,” Adams said. “We’ve asked if they are doing anything.”
Adams said the federal government will be arguing against allowing discovery.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania declined to comment on the case. The U.S. Postal Service said it was not a party to the case and would not comment further. A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police did not respond to inquiries from The Daily Signal for this story.

‘It was me’: Tyler Robinson reportedly made stunning assassination admission to social media followers
Tyler RobinsonThe suspect in the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, who died after being shot at a free speech event in Utah last week, went to social media afterward and told his friends: “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this.”
The apparently confession came from suspect Tyler Robinson, who was arrested shortly after posting the statement.
The message came from an account belonging to Robinson and was on Discord.
A report posted at PJMedia explained it was in that statement Robinson “reportedly admitted his involvement in the murder.”
The report comes even as law enforcement officials continue their investigation of the facts of Kirk’s death, and Robinson’s alleged involvement, an investigation with which Robinson apparently is not cooperating.

“A member of the group chat shared an image of the conversation with The Post and confirmed that it came from Robinson’s account. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect their privacy and out of fear of harassment,” the report said.
Authorities then were able to obtain a copy of the message from Discord, a source explained.
The message from Robinson’s account went to “a small private group of online friends,” the report said.
Apparently Discord also is working with the FBI and other police investigators, following its initial claim that its own review discovered “no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord.”
The report described Robinson as having been “radicalized in his political views over recent years.”
“By the time of the shooting, Robinson seemed entrenched in a hostile mindset toward Kirk and conservatives more broadly,” the report explained.

It explained that other Discord users had commented on the assassination, with one commenting: “Bro didn’t deserve to go out like that sad.”
Then Robinson added, “im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. … thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you all for everything.”
Authorities also have confirmed that were are a number of individuals in Robinson’s online circle who may have had information about a coming tragedy – and likely did nothing to prevent it, and they now are being investigated.

Her decision to lash out at the high-profile conservative leader prompted criticism.

A report at Fox News explains that one House Republican now is demanding that Omar be removed from her House committee assignments.
U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., said he is introducing a resolution to remove Omar from the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
The report said Omar already has been getting backlash over her interview in which she blasted Kirk’s opinions.
She claimed Kirk “downplayed slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist.”
She later tried to backtrack, going to social media with her claim, “While I disagreed with Charlie Kirk vehemently about his rhetoric, my heart breaks for his wife and children. I don’t wish violence on anyone. My faith teaches me the power of peace, empathy, and compassion.”
Carter said, “Disparaging Charlie Kirk’s legacy, a God-fearing, honorable man, for boldly sharing his conservative beliefs is disgusting. The radical left has normalized meeting free speech with violence, and it must stop. No one who justifies the assassination of someone with different political views than them deserves to sit on a committee, and Ilhan Omar openly used language that incites violence toward her political opponents. Committees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.”

President Donald Trump on Monday announced a second military strike on a Venezuelan boat loaded with drugs headed for the United States.
“This morning, on my Orders, U.S. Military Forces conducted a SECOND Kinetic Strike against positively identified, extraordinarily violent drug trafficking cartels and narcoterrorists in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“The Strike occurred while these confirmed narcoterrorists from Venezuela were in International Waters transporting illegal narcotics (A DEADLY WEAPON POISONING AMERICANS!) headed to the U.S.
“These extremely violent drug trafficking cartels POSE A THREAT to U.S. National Security, Foreign Policy, and vital U.S. Interests. The Strike resulted in 3 male terrorists killed in action. No U.S. Forces were harmed in this Strike.
“BE WARNED — IF YOU ARE TRANSPORTING DRUGS THAT CAN KILL AMERICANS, WE ARE HUNTING YOU!

The mission was similar to one conducted Sept. 2, when Trump posted a video showing U.S. military forces destroying a small ship in the Caribbean carrying drugs and piloted by designated “narcoterrorists” from Venezuela.
Said Trump of the first strike: “Earlier this morning, on my Orders, U.S. Military Forces conducted a kinetic strike against positively identified Tren de Aragua Narcoterrorists in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility. TDA is a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, operating under the control of Nicolas Maduro, responsible for mass murder, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and acts of violence and terror across the United States and Western Hemisphere.
“The strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea in International waters transporting illegal narcotics, heading to the United States. The strike resulted in 11 terrorists killed in action. Vice President JD Vance says his own young children have now become victims of raging vitriol being spewed by leftists in a politically charged America.
As Vance hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show” on Rumble on Monday, the vice president, who was a close friend of the assassinated civil-rights leader, recounted how he and his family were viciously hollered at during a recent visit to Disneyland in California.
“There was a loud and very cruel minority that would shout at my children who are 8, 5 and 3 whenever they got the opportunity,” Vance began.
“‘You should disown your dad, you little sh**!’ one middle-aged woman yelled at my 5-year-old. ‘Tell the Secret Service to protect the Constitution – not your father!’ screamed another.
“Are these women violent? Probably not. Are they deranged? Certainly. And while our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left.”

Vance, who was broadcasting from his office in the West Wing of the White House, continued: “After Charlie died, one of his friends and one of our senior White House staffers had left-leaning operatives in his neighborhood passing out leaflets telling people what he looked like and where he lived, encouraging neighbors to harass him or, God forbid, to do worse.
“While he was mourning his dead friend, he and his wife had to worry about the political terrorists drawing a big target on the home he shares with his young children. Are these people violent? I hope not. But are they guilty of encouraging violence? You damn well better believe it!”
Vance also went “scorched earth” on individuals celebrating Kirk’s assassination.
“There is no unity with people who scream at children over their parents’ politics,” Vance said. “There is no unity with someone who lies about what Charlie Kirk said in order to excuse his murder.
“There is no unity with someone who harasses an innocent family the day after the father of that family lost a dear friend.
“There is no unity with the people who celebrate Charlie Kirk’s assassination!”
“There is no unity with the people who fund these articles, who pay the salaries of these terrorist sympathizers, who argue that Charlie Kirk, a loving husband and father, deserved a shot to the neck because he spoke words with which they disagree.”

“We owe it to our friend to ensure that his killer is not just prosecuted, but punished. And the worst punishment is not the death penalty, but the knowledge that Charlie’s mission continues after he’s gone. St. Paul tells us in Ephesians to put on the full armor of God.”

‘Fundamental shift’: Trump’s work results in $5 billion monthly trade gain for U.S.

Some haven’t been quite that profile, but still have produced results.
Such as his campaign to build American energy development, production and sales.
That’s benefited the American economy by about $5 billion … per month.
It is a report at Courthousenews that explains Europe’s “trade advantage” over the U.S. plunged “by another $5 billion in July.”
That’s based on information that shows a months-long shift as Europeans now are buying significantly more American goods.
“The European Union’s trade surplus with the U.S. fell to 13 billion euros ($14.3 billion) in July from 18 billion euros ($19.8 billion) a year earlier, according to official EU data. The shift represents the largest monthly deterioration in the trade relationship since U.S. President Donald Trump took office,” the report said.
The report said the 20 EU countries that use the euro currency showed similar results, as its global trade surplus fell to 12.4 billion euros from 18.5 billion euros a year earlier.
“European imports of U.S. goods surged 10.7% to 31.2 billion euros, while U.S. purchases of European products dropped 4.4% to 44.2 billion euros. The diverging trends signal a fundamental shift in one of the world’s most important trade relationships,” Courthousenews said.
European exports to the U.S. have fallen as the dollar strengthened and changed purchasing patterns, with Europeans buying more American energy, technology and agricultural products.
The report said European markets are weak, with a second-quarter growth report of a dismal 0.1%, far behind America’s 0.8%.
The trade changes followed Trump’s insistence that European allies stop buying Russian oil and gas.
Trump, in a statement, said, “I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA. As you know, NATO’S commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian Oil, by some, has been shocking! It greatly weakens your negotiating position, and bargaining power, over Russia. Anyway, I am ready to ‘go’ when you are. Just say when? I believe that this, plus NATO, as a group, placing 50% to 100% TARIFFS ON CHINA, to be fully withdrawn after the WAR with Russia and Ukraine is ended, will also be of great help in ENDING this deadly, but RIDICULOUS, WAR. China has a strong control, and even grip, over Russia, and these powerful Tariffs will break that grip. This is not TRUMP’S WAR (it would never have started if I was President!), it is Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s WAR. A European Commission official declined comment to Courthousenews.
The report said the U.S. now supplies more than 50% of Europe’s liquefied natural gas needs.
The report said the economic slowdown also has started affect Europe’s job markets, with employment growth only 0.1%.
‘Heavily involved’: State Department sued for records on man on trial for 2nd attempted Trump assassination

Routh traveled to Ukraine after Russia’s invasion in 2022 and led the “International Volunteer Center,” an effort to recruit foreign soldiers for the war effort. The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) sued to obtain potential communications between Routh and department officials from Jan. 1, 2023 and Sept. 14, 2024.
“Given Mr. Routh’s creation of an organization in Ukraine aimed at helping foreigners connect with military units, the American public deserves to know the content of any communications between Routh and Biden State Department officials,” said CASA Director James Fitzpatrick.
More than 355 days have passed since CASA filed its initial records requests, but no determination has been made, according to the lawsuit.
Though the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) monitored some Americans who traveled to Ukraine to fight in the war, Routh apparently was not investigated, Politico reported in September 2024.
The State Department did not respond to a request for comment.
Ryan Wesley RouthOne nurse who encountered Routh in Ukraine flagged him to U.S. officials, expressing concerns about him during an hour-long interview with a Customs and Border Protection officer in 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal. Former CIA officer Sarah Adams told the WSJ that Routh was known as a “fraudster” and “kind of a whack job” among Ukraine volunteer aid groups.
Routh faces five charges for allegedly attempting to kill Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach on Sept. 15, 2024, just months after a gunman’s bullet grazed Trump’s ear during the first assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He is representing himself at his trial, which began last week in Florida.
Judge Aileen Cannon cut Routh off minutes into his opening statement — which mentioned Vladimir Putin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the history of humanity — after warning him against making a “mockery” of the courtroom.
His cross-examinations of witnesses have been shorter than anticipated, putting the trial ahead of schedule. When cross-examining the prosecution’s first witness, the Secret Service agent who discovered Routh hiding in the bushes with a firearm, Routh asked if it was good to “be alive.”
