Ten Ways To Know You’re In A Senior Role

Back when I went in search of the IT Gap I found that there was a Gap in hiring “Senior” IT people. Theevidence suggested that thetalent pool for such experienced people, one covered up by certain economic trends and practices. I didn’t answer one question in that essay – namely, what the heck do I mean by “Senior” person and a “Senior Role”?

I probably should have worked on answering that. So I am now.

Why is it important? Well, though you can guess, let’s review:

The title affects what job...

Healthy Cooking: Chazuke

Next up on my healthy cooking hit parade is Chazuke, at times called Ochazuke. It’susually thought of asJapanese comfort food or quick food, but stick with me here.

Anyway, Chazuke really started as something simple in Japan – green tea poured over rice. Sort of a simple porridge. Over time people added seaweed and condiments like pickles or dried meat, making it a kind of healthy comfort meal and quick-to-assemble out of common ingredients. In some cases it was also something you served to g...

Sailor Moon Book Update

We’re actually getting into the end part of writing the Sailor Moon book – but we’re not out of the sparkly crystal woods yet – or for awhile.

So first up, we had two chapterson how Sailor Moon affected and inspired people in hobbies and to change their lives. We wrote them separately – only to find they were really one. In fandom it’s hard to separate personal growth, fannish hobbies, and careers – it may look like it from the outside, but as soon as you start diving in . . . well, it doesn’...

Reality Show Generator – In Beta!

And here you go, the ! My friend Ewen inspired me when he created a Reality Show game, and I figured I’d see what would happen when I tried it. Plus it gave me a chance to try out some techniques for analyzing data which I covered earlier – short form, very effective, faster, but kinda less exciting than winging it.

It doesn’t cover the huge range of crazy titles you may see as many are individualized, but I think it does a pretty good job. be sure to leave f...

Career Advice For 2016: Watching for 2017

So here we are at the end of 2015, a year of massive . . . well massive everything, both good and bad . . . and 2016 is coming. So what does the Geek Job Guru think about 2016 and your careers (in the US)?

The strange thing is most of it is about 2017.

Economy In General

So first of all the economy in the US seems to be doing OKoverall right nowbut remember we came out of the worst recession since the depression, and not everyone caught up. This Salon article is worth reading, and though it...

Healthy Cooking: Okonomiyaki

I haven’t posted as much on cooking in the last year as i’ve been working on the voice of the blog – which I settled on as being “mine” which cleared things up.

So let me share one of my secrets of healthy, fast, delicious cooking: Okonomiyaki.

Okonomiyaki’s been descried in many ways – usually poorly – so I’ll give my own summary: a pancake with vegetables and often savory ingredients in it, served with sauces (usually Bulldog and mayo). It’s a Japanese creation, repurposed from other cuisin...

Way With Worlds Update!

OK great news, Way With Worlds is going to editor this week!

Yes, I put in all the pre-reader feedback, did a run through, and will ship it off shortly. I expect the editor to take about two months so it’ll be a welcome break.

I’ve also got the cover artist working on the draft of cover 1. Its looking interesting so far, though the holidays slowed things down a bit.

So hang tight gang, it’s coming . . . and there’s more to stay tuned for . . .

Straight White Male

This is the blog post that has been months in coming. Not because it’s good, but because I kept finding other things to write, and because I kept rephrasing it.

What got it to finally be written was watching people freak out over a black actress playing Herminonie Granger in a play of Harry Potter. If you haven’t heard of this, yes, really. When even J.K. Rowling chimed in that Herminoie didn’t have to be white it didn’t seem to help.

Really, people are offended at a character form whom her r...

Update: The Power Of Creative Paths

What’s next up for me? Well working on all my OTHER books I am doing a book called “The Power Of Creative Paths” which I used to call “The Creativity Book.” It’s now at the editor AND we have a beta cover:

Creative Paths

So this should be out at the end of January – it’s a $2.99 ebook, a bit under 100 pages, and hardcore focused on identifying your creative path, helping you expand your options as a creator, and understand how people on different “paths” can get along – or fail to get along. It’s the first...

American Trump: Not Pretending About Religion

Something seems to be missing from the Republican candidates’ campaign. Wits may figure such things include “dignity”, “good taste”, and “not humiliating your family.” But what’s missing is Christian Values.

Yes we hear talk about Christianity, especially in the realm of finding new ways to screw Syrian refugees and ways to hate Muslims. But there’s not as much talk about Values, morals, principles, etc. The old Holier-Than-Though that we got used to for so many years seems to be gone. The Va...
