Jan Richman’s collection of poems, Because the Brain Can Be Talked Into Anything, won the 1994 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets (judged by Robert Pinsky), and was published by Louisiana State University Press. She has received an NEA Grant in Literature, a Nation/Discovery Award from the Nation magazine, the Celia B. Wagner Award from the Poetry Society of America, a Felix Pollack Poetry Prize from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, a San Francisco Bay Guardian Poetry Prize, and a residency at Blue Mountain Center in New York. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from San Francisco State University, and a Masters in Creative Writing from New York University.
