“Y” for You are the best!

Several factors can influence self-esteem, including upbringing, experiences, relationships, societal norms, and personal achievements. Positive experiences, supportive relationships, and accomplishments can bolster self-esteem, while negative experiences, criticism, and failures can undermine it.

In the labyrinth of life, our minds often become tangled in the thorny vines of self-doubt and criticism. Yet, amidst the chaos, lies the transformative magic of
self-compassion and positive sel...

“X” Marks the Spot…

In Math, we are always asked to “Find X!” I used to tell my Mum (a Math teacher), “Ma, why do I need to find X? Why do you keep losing it?” Of course…this is a slight exaggeration. 😉

I am talking about exploring your own self. Your “X”.

Imagine a vast expanse before you, marked only by the mysterious ‘X’ that beckons exploration. Welcome to the uncharted territory of self-discovery, where every step is an adventure into the depths of your own soul. In this enigmatic landscape, I trave...

“W” for Wanderlust

Wanderlust. I never knew what this word meant till I saw it mentioned in a film.

I remember it was a Bengali film. There is this old uncle who comes to visit his family. The way he behaves with everybody, the stories he tells, the kind of life he seems to have led, create an aura of awe around him. People are excited to meet him. His niece asks him why he left the family and vanished? He says, “Wanderlust”.

He then proceeds to explain the term. I sat gaping, watching the film with wi...

“V” for Vegan

I had always dreamt of being thin. Like those supermodels. Eat as much as I like but still be reed thin. Of course, at that time, I didn’t know about many things. Like the heavy workouts, the extreme diets, the medicines, everything that is not so shiny, things that are never mentioned.

I just saw their perfect shapes and wanted my body to follow suit. Bah!

Like all curvaceous girls my age, I underwent a fair amount of ragging, teasing, cat calling, you name it. Being a Teacher’s kid...

“U” Unloved – A poem

In shadows deep, where whispers mourn,
Resides a heart, tattered and worn.
Unloved, it beats with silent plea,
Yearning for a touch to set it free.

Each night it weeps, beneath the moon,
Lost in echoes of a lonely tune.
Unseen, unheard, in darkness it dwells,
Longing for love’s enchanting spells.

But in the depths, a flicker glows,
A spark of hope where despair flows.
For even in the darkest night,
Love’s gentle touch can set things right.

So let us cherish, let us mend,
For every heart deser...

“T” for Time

Time and Tide wait for none, they say.

Time changes at the blink of an eye. For me, it was the birth of my Tara. The moment that changed everything.

It was pouring cats and dogs. And sheep also. We had a scan scheduled that day. We got ready and bundled into the car, which somehow waded through flooded roads. The hospital, a couple of kilometers away seemed so far. The doctor seemed quite pensive, trying to act cool. I was eager to go home, and rest. Watch some TV. My due date was w...

“S” – Simplicity

If everything were straightforward, just simple. Life would be so easy. Dealing with relationships and people would become so much easier.

Cutting through the clutter is crucial in a world that’s often more tangled than a plate of spaghetti. When I say simplicity, I’m not just talking about Marie Kondo-ing my apartment (though that’s a vibe). It’s about stripping back all the unnecessary layers we slap onto our interactions. It’s about being raw and real.

Think about it: how many time...

“R” For Reactions

Have you ever found yourself in a situation at work where your initial reaction led to unintended consequences? I certainly have. Let me share a personal experience where reacting impulsively in the office ended up causing more harm than good, and how I’ve learned valuable lessons from it.

It was a busy Monday morning, and tensions were running high in the office due to looming project deadlines. I had been working tirelessly on a crucial presentation for days, and my stress levels were t...

“Q” – Queue

A Short Story

Greg, a young executive with a penchant for efficiency, found himself stuck in a serpentine line at a bustling street fair. His eyes scanned the tempting food stalls, and his stomach growled impatiently. As the line inched forward at an agonizing pace, Greg’s frustration reached a boiling point.

Spotting a shortcut through a narrow alley, Greg made a split-second decision. Without hesitation, he slipped away from the line and hurried through the alley, emerging on the ot...
