I'm a former journalist who worked for The Western Mail newspaper and BBC Wales Today in Cardiff before becoming a press officer for the police.

My latest novel 'Where She Went' is a dark psychological thriller with a supernatural twist, published by LittleBrown (Hachette) in 2017. My new novel ‘Halfway’ will be released in the spring of 2018.

You might already have seen me on Goodreads as I'm a voracious reader, rater and reviewer. I also have three other published novels, all psychological thrillers with a contemporary edge, under the name Beverley Jones. Check out that Goodreads profile to find out more or ask me a question - I love to chat, argue about and compare notes on all sorts of books.

There’s just something about lying by the pool, or, more likely, or in my messy garden drifting back in time with the grand dame of crime. Anyone who thinks she writes only ‘cosy’, easy-going crime should give her a try. There’s some dark stuff going on in there!

As I devour lots of crime novels throughout the year I tend to favour something different on holiday and I’m a sucker for a beautifully crafted period piece. This year I’ve got my eye on Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders, alongside Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad. I’ll also take a copy of Mrs Hemingway by Naomi Wood if I get to pack a suitcase for somewhere warm – I love that whole era and the jaded ‘romanticism’ of the Riviera/F Scott Fitzgerald set. At heart I’d love to have been a bit of a ‘flapper’, lazing on a terrace, watching the sun set over the twinkling Med, cocktail in hand…

I’ll probably break my rule about reading crime to squeeze in a quick peep at Erin Kelly’s He Said, She Said – well, you can’t go completely cold turkey!

With the publication of Where She Went finally here, I would just like to say a big thanks all round; thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read and review it and to create such a lovely buzz about my creepy little story that burrowed about in my brain for three years before Little Brown released it onto the page.

Writers generally live in an insecure place, spending months locked away in... Read more of this blog post »
