I'm a former journalist who worked for The Western Mail newspaper and BBC Wales Today in Cardiff before becoming a press officer for the police.

My latest novel 'Wilderness', is published by LittleBrown (Hachette), available now in ebook and out in paperback later in the year.

You might already have seen me on Goodreads as I'm a voracious reader, rater and reviewer. I also have three other published novels, all psychological thrillers with a contemporary edge, under the name Beverley Jones. Check out that Goodreads profile to find out more or ask me a question - I love to chat, argue about and compare notes on all sorts of books.

There’s just something about lying by the pool, or, more likely, or in my messy garden drifting back in time with the grand dame of crime. Anyone who thinks she writes only ‘cosy’, easy-going crime should give her a try. There’s some dark stuff going on in there!

As I devour lots of crime novels throughout the year I tend to favour something different on holiday and I’m a sucker for a beautifully crafted period piece. This year I’ve got my eye on Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders, alongside Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad. I’ll also take a copy of Mrs Hemingway by Naomi Wood if I get to pack a suitcase for somewhere warm – I love that whole era and the jaded ‘romanticism’ of the Riviera/F Scott Fitzgerald set. At heart I’d love to have been a bit of a ‘flapper’, lazing on a terrace, watching the sun set over the twinkling Med, cocktail in hand…

I’ll probably break my rule about reading crime to squeeze in a quick peep at Erin Kelly’s He Said, She Said – well, you can’t go completely cold turkey!

The Call of the Wild!

The paperback of my new novel 'Wilderness' finally hits the shelves this week. The irony of releasing a crime novel about a dream road trip, traversing 1500 miles of America’s national parks, that might just turn deadly, in the middle of a global lockdown is not lost on me. But it started several years ago, long before anyone could imagine the social distancing and self isolation Covid 19 would ne Read more of this blog post »
