I jumped on VickoRano ’s offer to do commissions and asked her to draw Caprice from Tricked.  The problem with getting other people to draw my characters is that they almost inevitably do a better job than I do!

Oh god. This morning I said all the Ebert obit cartoons passed under my radar because they were exactly what I was expecting, but this?

No. MStreeter, go back and do it over.

Maybe it’s just me but at first I though his face was on a giant wiener.

Via.

Has there ever been a parody/homage of this on a comic book cover somewhere? You know, with like, Big Barda or something?

The first time I was aware of Carmine Infantino’s work was his run on Marvel’s original line of Star Wars comics circa 1978. When I was a kid I actually hated his artwork, since it didn’t look “real” enough (he played pretty fast and loose with the details when it came to stuff like ships, droids, etc). Now, as an adult I  appreciate how weird and stylized it is.

Years later I actually had him as a teacher for a semester at SVA. The only part of his class I remember was his playing Citizen Kane (with the sound off) and having us do sketches from it to improve our sense of composition. It was the only time in school I remember sketching from a movie instead of real life.

Goodbye, funnyman!

Page 5 of my silly story which has only become sillier and more actionable with every panel.

This is the last page for now but I definitely intend to continue the story whenever I feel like doing something fun. Stay tuned…

Page three of my very silly story. I noticed that the gun switches hands in between the first and last panel, but there are the things that happen when you’re trying to make a mini-comic in one day.

Yesterday was the third annual Mini-Comics Day so I thought it was a good excuse to take a break from my usual book to do something fun. I didn’t actually do a full mini-comic but I will be running the pages I did do here this week.

Come back tomorrow for the next exciting installment!
