2006 post-Ignatz with Tony Consiglio and Andy Runton.
Memories of the Small Press Expo. Have fun this weekend, nerds!
Top to bottom:
1996—my first SPX. It was the month before the first issue of Box Office Poison would come out from Antarctic Press, so this was my last show as a mini-comics-only creator. I used to wear a tie to shows but have gradually gotten more and more slovenlier.
1999—Tony Consiglio looms large in my legend. You’ll notice I have no tie, but am still tucking my shirt in.
2000—Will Eisner was polite enough to pretend to remember that Tony and I were his students at SVA, yet blunt enough to tell Tony that he had a face like back of a chicken. I’m normally an anti-social jerk at shows but this year I did make friends with my neighbor—a young upstart named Mike Dawson.
2006—Tony and I chill with “Gruntin’” Andy Runton after the Ignatz Awards.

my white protesters please remember that you’re rarely at the same risk we are when you stand up for what is right
I’m not gonna stop reblogging these reminders
As hard as it is for white people to take a stand, realize we have it so much easier than others.

Cops have been put on...

Cops have been put on notice: Let the cameras roll.
Camera-shy cops across the city were reminded they can’t legally take action to stop someone from filming them while they’re on the beat, the Daily News has learned. The refresher was provided in a memo the chief of department’s office distributed to all police commands Wednesday.
“Members of the public are legally allowed to record police interactions,” the memo states. “Intentional interference such as blocking or obstructing cameras or ordering the person to cease constitutes censorship and also violates the First Amendment.”
Cops can take action if videographers and shutterbugs “interfere with police operations,” the memo notes.
