Prepare for MIND WAR!
(Jim Starlin, Captain Marvel #31, March 1974)
I’ve been on a Jim Starlin kick lately. Mainstream comics reached their peak of exhilarating battiness in the seventies.

The Ink Panthers Show! Winter Special 2014
It’s almost Thanksgiving (the grimmest of all National Holidays) and Gags and Tiger Bear take a break from Turkey Hunting, and creep back into the frosty Lair to catch up and discuss some very important topics. Hear about what’s been going on comics-wise with the guys, and then fan-favorite Tony Consiglio comes in from the cold to talk about sperm (what else?).

Follow-up to my last post: just happened across this villain-with-back-turned cover that I that I like. The size disparity is a much more dynamic and the villain has genuine menace.
The clumsy title cracks me up—its straight out of Tales Designed to Theizzle.

1987 - Anatomy of a Cover - Amazing Spider-Man #288
By Steve Geiger and Bob McLeod
I’m not a fan of the villain’s-back-to-the-camera superhero cover. It removes any sense of menace from the bad guy (how threatening can you look if we only see your back?) and it’s always awkward squeezing a team into the space remaining.
Jack Kirby’s cover to X-Men #1 suffers from the same problem:
Kirby at least has the excuse of being in olden times. Also, does Spider-man really need three other superheroes to beat up the Kingpin? Spidey can lift a car but is worried about a fat guy giving him a karate chop? And why is Falcon bother to fly what looks to be about, what, 20 feet?
I stopped reading The Amazing Spider-man about 10 issues prior to this and looking back I made the right decisions.
