I think Dave Sim has some type of standing order, 'public domain' copyright on Cerebus so I'm curious what kind of a Cerebus story would YOU do? When you were a teenager, what did your envisioning of the series' end, in the event of Sim's death, look like?

My teenage self imagined the story ending with an enormous war, with an aged Cerebus making one last attempt at attaining/preserving an empire. Keep in mind that when I came up with this idea Church and State was still in progress, so it seemed kind of natural that the scale of the stories would get bigger (obviously the opposite turned out to be true as the supporting cast  in the last third of the book was much smaller than in the first 2/3—somewhat to the book's detriment, I think).

A long time ago Dave Sim saying he was looking forward to doing a story with Lord Julius as an old man, hoping to capture the spirit of how the real Groucho evolved as he aged but the structure of the story (mainly the big time jump that happens during Latter Days) forced him to abandon it. I was sad that he had to give that up and I still would love to see him tackle that subject. He's adamant about not doing any Cerebus sequels or spin-offs but there's nothing to stop him from doing a story about the actual old Groucho, right? (If anything Groucho's controversial relationship with Erin Fleming would fit right into Sim's dim view of women).
