Plotting? Really?

Any of you who have followed me for a while know that I’m a pantser when I write. I just start in and let the story take me where it will with only a vague idea of where its going, what will happen, and how it will end.

And for the most part this has worked for me. But, it also makes writing a book painfully slow because I’m often caught by the “What Is Suppose to Happen Next” monster. This often creates a hurdle that is too high to jump over. Instead it must be climbed over, often in a slow...

Ashes and Spirits Audio

I’m happy dancing tonight. Ashes has finally found its narrator and he is brilliant. Timeline looks like the audio will be released sometime early next year. This gives him the time he wants to read the first two books so he’s well acquainted with the story and the characters before he begins Ashes. So for all of those who have been waiting on the audio, you don’t have to wait much longer.

The League of Tables and Safe Zones at Conventions and Events

Wow, that’s kind of mouthful isn’t it?

Conventions and events from small to large, sci-fi to anime, steampunk to ren fests, and book fests are great and a lot of fun. The energy is upbeat, the people amazing and (in the case of conventions and ren fests) the cosplay is great.

That said, in any large crowd of people there are going to be those who aren’t quite as wonderful. Much as it would be nice if everything was perfect at these events, it isn’t always. Harassment happens, people get ove...

If You Like It Then You Should Have Glued Some Gears On It

Those of you who have been following this blog for a while know that I have a rather uncomfortable relationship with the concept of genre. On the one hand, I really, really don’t like it, on the other hand, I absolutely hate it.

Genre has always struck me as the lowest sort of pseudo-intellectual caste system, a hierarchy based on superficial characteristics. Itshoehorns stories into stereotypicalcircles. If you write a Science Fiction story, then you mustw...

Dragon’s Call Giveaway Winners!

TrosperRedFinished Design3

Thank you to all who entered and/or shared my 4th of July Dragon’s Call giveaway. I numbered the entries 1 thru 23, only counting the comments not the reblogs or pingbacks. This gave everyone one entry. I then set the max number on Random.org at 23 and let it decide who had won what starting with the paperbacks and then working my way to the audios. I’m sincerely grateful to Random.org for making such a wonderful thing available. There is no way I could have chosen any on my own from all of...

OMG, Amazon Changed How They Pay For Borrows, The Sky Is Falling!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Sky-is-falling-news-headline

Amazon changed how they are paying authors for books borrowed through Kindle Unlimited. Panic is spreading, there appears to be a great gnashing of teeth, Amazon is an evil overlord out to kill the very authors it makes money from, THE WORLD IS ABOUT TO END!

sky-is-falling1

At least that seems to be the general consensus out there and I’m not sure why. Authors petitioned Amazon for this change, why is there a bunch of screaming about it now that Amazon listened to th...

Pushing kids to read books they don’t like

Today I ran across an article about how Shakespeare is required in school whether or not kids have any interest in it all.

Then I ran across a summer reading program where they are paying kids to read. Kids read the books, write a report and send it in, then receive a check for up to 40.00 for their efforts. They can repeat this as often as they want throughout the summer. The catch, they have to read books on the list offered by the site who is doing this.

Then I ran across a post on Faceboo...

My Mind To Your Mind – A Question Of Perceptions

This is very cool and so very true. It’s also the reason why some people can love a book and others hate that same book. Or movie, music, or anything else that depends on personal perception.

I’ve asked this question since I was young. In a way, I am glad to know that I’m not the only one, nor that I missed the answer, since there is none yet. And fascinating imagining how to answer it.
