I'm a fan of dystopian and this was well written and captivating. The only thing that I could have done without is the romance. The book would have been just as good, if not better, without the romantic elements. I thought that it felt forced. Otherwise, I liked the characters. I liked the idea behind the book. I loved the writing. I think that this could have just as easily taken place in the "old days," as opposed to the future. I am interested in reading the companion novel next.

Synopsis

Book Review: Moonshot

With each book Alessandra Torre hones her writing skills that much more.Moonshot delivers another new and exciting caveat to Torre's ever evolving style and structure of plot. Told from the alternating points of view of 1st and 3rd person, we meet two characters who straddle the line of forbidden taking us into a gray area of deliciously taboo. This author never ceases to amaze me with where she's willing to take her characters. Her words catapult us into the heart of the story making us feel everything strongly, whether those reactions be happy, sad, angry, or complacent, they're always strong. 

Because I do not want to spoil plot I feel it hard to review Moonshot by it's characters and plot so my focus will be on the writing and the feels conjured from reading. There was something innately mysterious and dark about this sports romance thriller. While the subject matter wasn't overly dark the way Torre chose to tell it reminded of a very cloak and dagger type feel. The chapters are short, stolen moments of time and circumstance. They pack a lot of punch weaving together the love, the taboo, the mystery, and an abundance of sexual tension. My favorite part of the book is the snippets of sexual tension slowly building to an inferno of need throughout the prose. You can feel it viscerally through Torre's gift with words like a calm before a storm. The heat and passion, the mixing of words all stirred together to provide an intriguing story. 

Both main characters carry so much heat. Both feisty, intelligent, passionate beings who feel something for each other they've felt before. How that plays out takes you a twisty road full of curve balls - literally and figuratively. There's a lot of cat and mouse moments, misunderstandings, angst-ridden time, deceit, and a blooming of a beautiful relationship. For me personally, there were a couple parts of the story that left me feeling blank and disappointed where I wished things could have been different or just a little more developed but as I often try to do I came out of my shell for those certain tropes used and found myself more immersed in the story while I realized it was exactly what the characters needed to go through or not go through. I admire Torre for those risks she so often takes and I truly adore her style of story telling. It's unique and fresh always leaving me wanting more. 

Throughout the book I was fully engaged, even when I was spitting mad. There was never a time when I thought I couldn't go on because I had to know what was happening and how it would all turn out. The mark this author always leaves is one of unstoppable feels and emotions. I thought about Moonshot all night, creating my own fan-fic in my head about an extended epilogue or remembering the parts that hurt so good. I hope the two characters in Moonshot can give us more snippets of time beyond what we learn in this book. More stolen moments full of so much sexual tension and love you feel your kindle could explode.
