Excerpt:

I could feel myself starting to fall asleep in my book when there was a knock on the door. I looked at my watch. It was nearly nine o’clock.
The knocking continued until I opened the door and Eddie waltzed in.
“Hey, neighbor,” he said. “Sorry, I’m late.”
“It’s nine at night,” I moaned. “What are you doing here?”
He flopped on the couch. “Just wanted to see what you were up to.”
“I’m getting ready to go to bed,” I said and immediately regretted it.
Eddie raised an eyebrow. “Is that an invitation? I didn't think you were that easy.”
I put my hands on my hips. “That was not an invitation.”
“Too bad. As much as I dig that sexy little tee shirt you've got on, I’d love to see it off.”
I could feel my face turning red and the heat spreading throughout my body. How could a man simultaneously disgust and excite me?
“If you sit down and talk to me for five minutes, I promise I’ll leave.”
“Fine,” I said as I sat down on the other side of the couch. I stared at Eddie and waited for him to speak.
“So, do you know much about kite surfing?” he asked.
I shook my head.
“Do you want to see how it’s done?”
“Not particularly,” I said.
I caught a glimmer of something in Eddie’s eyes. A challenge, perhaps?
“How about a walk on the beach then?”
“It’s awfully dark out,” I quipped.
He grinned. “I meant this weekend. Maybe Saturday at dusk. We can watch the sunset. It’s romantic.” He emphasized the word romantic as if he was making fun of it.
“I already have plans for Saturday,” I said matter-of-factly.
Eddie’s cool demeanor slipped for an instant but was back just as quickly. “You work fast,” he said. “ You've haven’t even lived here a week yet. I thought it would take at least few weeks for all the sharks to come out of the water.”
“I certainly wouldn't call my date a shark,” I said.
Eddie rolled his eyes. “All guys are sharks. Some are just better at hiding it.”
“Whatever. You don’t even know the guy.”
“But I am a guy and I know how guys are.”
I glared at Eddie. “No, you know how you are. Not all guys are like you.”
Eddie shrugged. “Believe what you want. At least I’m honest about what I want.”
“And what is that exactly?” I challenged.
Eddie slid over to me so our bodies were almost touching. He looked at me with such desire I could barely breathe. “You and I both know what I want, and I think you want it, too.”
I nearly leapt from the couch to stop myself from doing something really stupid. All it would have taken was for me to move one inch toward Eddie and we would have been making out on my couch and probably in my bed shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, when I jumped from the couch, my knees were weak and I nearly fell over. When I righted myself, I turned to Eddie and glared at him. “You have no idea what I want.”
Eddie got up from the couch and stood right next to me. He got close enough to whisper in my ear. Feeling his breath on my neck sent a wave of shivers down my body that were so intense, I nearly collapsed. The sexual tension between the two of us filled the small room.
“You think you know me, Alexandria,” he said softly in my ear. “But you don’t. One of the things you don’t know about me is that I love playing games. I thrive on it. It’s an aphrodisiac. And this game you’re playing with me is the ultimate turn on.”
And with that, he strolled out the door.
Shit. I didn't know what to do. Part of me wanted to roll right into bed with Eddie. It would be so easy. The sex would probably be mind-blowing. And the aftermath would most likely be messy. Especially when I had to live next door to the guy for at least a year, which was the duration of my lease.
Then there was Daniel. He was definitely the type of guy who wanted a relationship. But was I ready for that? Was I ready to fall in love again?
I moved to Florida to get away from the complexities and drama of a romantic relationship gone terribly wrong. Yet, here I was in Florida not even a week, and I found myself in the midst of not one but two possible romantic entanglements. What was wrong with me?

Book Review: Mutual Release

Book Review: Mutual Release by Liz Crowe

Disclaimer: Rating 18+ - Content contains mature themes, explicit language and sexual scenes not suitable for everyone.

Can two dark souls ever make a light?

As president of her own distribution company, Julie Dawson has all she ever wanted -- money, power, and respect. But her carefully crafted façade conceals a torment of abuse and helplessness. After years remaining emotionally aloof, she is finally independent, but alone. Because she refuses to rely on anyone but herself ever again.

Evan Adams is no stranger to success, or personal demons. The horrific trauma that destroyed his twin sister, and tore his family apart, forced him to craft a new life from the ashes of the old. He's content enough, focusing ahead and not dwelling on his murky past. But something important is missing. He knows what that thing is but refuses to acknowledge it.

When a chance encounter brings these two strong-willed but damaged people together, what seems like a long, erotic journey through hell could lead them to a match made in heaven.

My thoughts: All-American boy, Evan, is late losing his virginity as captain of every high school sport, but quickly discovers an interest and overwhelming pull towards the darker side of sex. He spends much of his young adult life, into his thirties, either full on BDSM Dom/Sub or a self-imposed celibate. The trauma associated with losing his twin sister finally sends him into a tailspin, and he once again pulls away from his BDSM lifestyle and focuses on his new-found career as a brewery owner (it's a Liz Crowe book…there must be beer!). Poor-turned-instantly-wealthy Julie grows up with a mother who is constantly trying to find the man of her dreams, with the pocketbook that matches, and whose parenting mantra is, "do as I say, not as I do." Her stepfather's mantra, "You owe me," which is the start of Julie's fall into mistrust of men, and learning how to gain the advantage through sex. Until Evan and Julie meet, and sparks fly. Evan is persistent in making Julie his submissive, and after seeing (or feeling) the advantages of the arrangement, opens herself up to him, and they fall in love. The two go through a series of ups and down through their relationship, all centered around their trust issues. When things finally look towards "happily ever after," the man that ruined Evan's twin sister, and caused her death, resurfaces and sets his sights on destroying Evan through Julie.

This is not your mother's "Fifty Shades," as it dives into the deep, lusty pool of BDSM, and the underground clubs associated with the lifestyle. The book is broken into different parts, starting with Evan's life, switching to Julie's life, and then ending with their lives together. Similarly, the book introduces the reader to BDSM full on in the first part (read that as – there is a ton of sex scenes), then tapers off a bit in the middle, and then ramps it back up at the end. It was a very compelling story, and there were parts that really tore at my heart. The immense amount of sex throughout the book was distracting, and sometimes felt like overkill. I was a bit surprised that it was not in the erotica category. Overall, a good read, and I enjoyed watching the transformation from the Dom/Sub relationship into a "normal" relationship built on the trust and love they had developed over the years.

Book Review: Music of the Heart

Book Review: Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley

For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn't in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

My thoughts: Who wouldn't love a rockstar? Well Abby Renard certainly thought she wouldn't. Especially not Jake Slater, a typical rockstar who immediately thought that Abby was a groupie, when she accidentally came to his room. No, Jake was wrong, Abby was no ordinary girl. Abby who speaks Spanish, thinks like a guy and was raised by a Missionary parent. The only girl in the family with three older brothers, and most of all she has a voice of an angel while she plays her not so ordinary guitar. With Jake taking her for being "Miss goody two shoes" and a "spoiled brat" he dared Abby, saying that she couldn't handle being on their tour bus for a week. Abby, liking the idea of a challenge, and determined not to lose, agrees to do so. What if it's their fate to be with one another? This is a sweet story of how much patience and understanding they each will need to make their relationship last. It's really not easy, especially given Jake's situation in his personal life. He unintentionally tries to push Abby away from him by making mistakes with his actions every now and then. But the good girl inside Abby is willing to be part of Jake's sorrow and is willing to break behind it. Is their love for one another enough for them to stand through all of this? You'll have to read the book and see... It's a good read with a good taste in music. I can’t wait for the second book of Runaway train series.

Book Review: Bitter Angel

Book Review: Bitter Angel by Megan Hand

Torn between two realities.
A choice that will mean life or death.
But she won’t know anything…until she wakes up.

College sophomore, Lila Spencer lived Friday night twice. She doesn’t know how or why, just that she did. As if she split in half and went in two different directions.

Out clubbing with her friends, Heather and Nilah, the girls rock it out and party hard. What begins as an innocent night will lead to a deadly fight for their lives, and Lila might be their only chance for survival.

In bed with her boyfriend, Jay, Lila is safe and warm as she drifts to sleep in the arms of the man she loves. Until she is sucked into a horrifying nightmare of her friends' deaths.

As the sunlight warms her face on Saturday morning, the two scenarios collide. But there can be only one outcome. Will she wake up in her warm bed with Jay by her side, devastated and grieving for her friends? Or was she there to save them?

The answer is just the beginning.

My take: I'm a contemporary romance fan, and in spite of the strong relationship Lila has with her boyfriend Jay, the story has really very little romance. So, if you're looking for a feel good, warm fuzzy romantic read, this book is probably not for you. However, that being said, the book is still very entertaining. This is not really paranormal, but there is a hint of it when Lila is seemingly in two places at one time. On one hand, she's safe at home with her boyfriend, Jay. On the other hand, she is experiencing the most horrific night of her life. There is some violence, some strong language and some sexual situations. This book is for more mature, New Adult, readers. At times, I found the reading a bit slow, but once it picked up, there is plenty of action. Lila is stubborn with a capital S, and even though her heart was in the right place, her determination often led her to making less than stellar decisions. Haven't we all been there, done that? If you like a book where the good guy wins, this one is definitely worth a read.

Cover Reveal! This is Forever

Did it get you curious? Winter is the very sexy bassist for the band 13 Shades of Red, and his book, THIS IS FOREVER will be releasing December 2013. Wanna see the cover?

Now isn't that just sexy? From now till December if you check out some of your favorite blogs that are rocking the mini graphic on the side column, we will be giving some teasers, excerpts and interviews about the book, on the 10th of the month.

Believe me; it really is going to be a Long Hard Winter. *wink*

And now… for a sexy sneak peek at THIS IS FOREVER…(Does contain strong language)

Seeing Lola after eight months was a fucking kick in the teeth. She had changed her hair, it was purple with black streaks, and she was wearing one fucker of an outfit. Platform Mary Jane’s, her signature, purple torn fishnet thigh highs with garters that ended in bows with skulls on them, micro mini in black satin with a lace trim. She had tripled up on her belts, her little baby tee molding to her torso like a second skin. It was razor cut in places, showing skin and the purple of her lace bra. Her arms warmers were knitted with little skulls on them. He was pretty sure she wasn't wearing underwear also, the girl just loved to shock. Dare he think it was for his benefit? He wasn't sure he even saw her, thinking he was dreaming the perfection before him.

But dreams don’t blow you off… at least his didn't  His dreams, her especially, blew him. When dreams blew you off, those were called nightmares, and those sucked. Sucked like life was sucking right now. She had walked in with the rest of her band, greeted everyone but him, her gaze lingering a little too long on Colin, Rhys’ little brother, but then moved on as she kissed cheeks and hugged people.

He had to adjust his groin, discreetly of course, when she and Saffron hugged and snuggled. Apparently over the past several months Saffron and Lola had become quite the BFF, with Lola staying at Saffron’s place in New York when she had to go in for several shoots and meetings with her record company. Rhys had teased him about getting face timed and seeing both of them in little booty shorts and white tank tops… but he didn't think they were that close.

And worse, he didn't think seeing her all snuggly with Saffron would illicit the images rolling through his head. Not that Saffron wasn't hot, but he just didn't dig his best friend’s girl like that.  He grabbed a tootsie pop and unwrapped it, sticking the thick ball into his mouth. He watched her move from person to person, but never to him.

What. The. Fuck.
When everyone sat down, she sat at the other end, didn't even bother to look at him. He went through dinner in a blur, his anger getting to him more and more. What the fuck was going on? He was beginning to feel like he was invisible. Maybe it was a nightmare?

When she got up and went to the bathroom, he followed, after exchanging a meaningful look with Rhys.
“So you’re just not going to say anything to me?” he said as he caught her coming out of the bathroom.
She looked at him and then sighed. “I didn't want a public thing to happen.”

Public thing?
She looked him up and down. “I don’t know if I’m ready to say hi like I want to.”
Winter rolled his eyes. “So you can wrap yourself around Saffron, eye Colin up like he’s a steak, which by the way he’s not even eighteen yet, eww,” he ticked off on his fingers, “Yet you can’t even just turn and wave at me?”
Lola shook her head. “It’s not what I wanted. And Colin is going to be very popular…”
“You just didn't wanna talk to me at all?” he asked, thoroughly confused. She was the one that pushed for the tour, and by all accounts she didn't have issue with their past. It was what gave him hope.

She moved closer and shook her head. “That’s not it.”
“Then what’s it?” he bit out, his hands clenched at his sides. Gods, only she could infuriate him like this. Fuck she smelled good. All honey and warm clover… no one smelled like Lola.
Her voice lowered. “Do you like my outfit Winter?”
He growled. Fuck yes he liked her outfit. Loved. Wanted it crumpled on the floor of his bedroom. Wanted to peel it from her slowly, kissing every inch of skin he exposed.
She reached for him, her fingers tugging him closer by the belt loops of his jeans. “Good. You’re supposed to. You don’t get anything from me Winter Tulane. No greeting, no, little wave, no explanation. Eat your heart out baby.”
She got closer, her lips just against his, a slight almost imperceptible move of the hoop through the middle of his lip and then she was gone, back towards the party, her ass shaking with a sashay that had blood rushing from every place in his body to his cock. Fuck. What the hell was going on?
“Hey Lo,” he called after her. She gave him the finger and kept walking.
Game on. Game fucking on, he thought as he followed her back into the room. Confusion didn't even convey how he was feeling about what happened, but holy fuck the signals she was throwing off were so convoluted he didn't know if he should fist pump for getting her so close to him or brood over her words.
