Release Day Blitz: Endurance

release-day-banner-_1

endurance-coverI’m a doctor. Mobster. Killer.

My hands are covered in filth. I don’t have the right to touch anything as clean and pure as Ellison MacAllister.

I distance myself … always remaining obscure, composed, restrained.

Careful to never allow my eyes to linger too long.

Careful to hide my interest.

Careful to keep my burning desire buried beneath the surface.

I do it for her—suffer in silence—because it’s what is best for the woman I love.

And she has no idea.

She’ll be initiated as a Fellowship member soon. One of my mafia brothers will go through endurance so he’ll earn the right to claim her.

Make her his wife.

Kill. Me. Slowly.

I’m running out of time. Only a month remains before she’s beyond my reach forever.

I want to taste her. Share sleepless nights. Ride out her storm.

I want to give her the kind of nights she will still feel between her legs the next morning.

I want us to share the kind of passion that forms on our skin and drips down to saturate the sheets.

Between the sweat and the moans and the messy hair, I want her to know how hard she’s been loved.

To have her is to taint her.

I should stay away. But I won’t. I can’t.

I’m a selfish bastard.

A selfish bastard in love.

Prologue: Ellison’s POV

I left everything behind. Every. Thing. My possessions. My career. My friends. My past. My present.

My future.

I’ve traded my nursing clogs for rain boots. Shorts and tank tops for jackets and scarves. Sunscreen for an umbrella.

I’ve been calling bonny Scotland home for the last nine months. I spent the first five weeks living in a bubble within my sister’s domain where the criminal world known as The Fellowship didn’t exist. I believed Bleu and Sin were a normal husband and wife expecting not one, but two babies, to go along with the precious baby girl they’d adopted. They were a beautiful family. A living and breathing fairy tale in my mind. He was her rich and handsome Scottish knight in a shining black luxury sedan. She was his beautiful, badass princess who carried a Beretta . . . but still needed saving.

I envied the fuck out of them.

And then the bubble burst.

That was almost eight months ago. Everything changed. I know about the brotherhood’s world of organized crime. Or at least as much as any outsider can know without being clipped. Burned. Marbh. I don’t know what that word means but I’ve heard Sin use it with an angry tone more than once when talking to a brother. I haven’t asked but I’m pretty sure it means somebody fucked up big time and they’re about to get whacked.

Fellowship 101. Lying. Cheating. Stealing. Killing. That’s just the shortlist. I got the CliffsNotes version but it didn’t change my mind about staying in Edinburgh. Nothing will ever separate me from my sister or those precious babies.

Sin’s finally resigned to my choice to become part of the brotherhood. He agreed to let me attend an official Fellowship function tonight for the first time. The babies’ consecration—their official dedication to the brotherhood where Bleu and Sin vow to raise the children in the way of The Fellowship.

Oddly, I didn’t feel surrounded by liars, cheaters, thieves, and murderers when I was at the consecration ceremony earlier tonight. I felt the deep love The Fellowship has for Sin, Bleu, and their three babies. Their affection radiated like a fire emitting both light and warmth. It was a beautiful thing, yet one lone, uncontained spark has the power to burn down everything within its path.

My sister calls those dangerous people family.

And I will as well. Soon.

The normal procedure for someone who isn’t born into The Fellowship, but wishes to become a member, is to participate in endurance. The man wishing to join must prove he is strong enough to endure a beating that will send him so close to the gates of hell, he’ll return with singed eyebrows.

Barbaric.

The case is different for a woman. No female has ever undergone endurance. Not even my tough-as-a-muthafucking-former-FBI-agent sister. Sin voluntarily stood in her place so she wouldn’t be hurt. He was beaten to a bloody pulp so his people would accept the woman he loved as one of their own. She was the first of her kind to be adopted into the brotherhood by this method. And that’s what a man, a Fellowship brother, will have to do for me.

Bleu says it’s an act of love in its purest form. Sounds more like an act of stupidity. But apparently, a necessary idiocy if I’m to stay.

It isn’t right that some innocent man—the word innocent being used loosely—should endure that kind of suffering so I can be with my own family. But I don’t think these people really get the gist of what’s right anyway. They aren’t exactly sitting around polishing their halos.

I agree with one thing Bleu says: No man will volunteer to go through something so barbaric unless he loves me madly. Men are horny bastards, but I don’t know a one who would sign on for endurance just to get between my legs. That means he will truly love me. And no one in The Fellowship will ever question it.

I haven’t been allowed to mingle with the brothers with the exception of Jamie, Leith, and Mitch. Sin says I need to be properly introduced before that can happen. He wants the brothers to know and understand exactly who I am and how he expects them to behave toward me. He acts like the big brother I never had. I like it; it’s sweet. But I almost feel inclined to tell him it’s unnecessary. I know how to manage men even when they have no clue how to handle me. Just call me the man whisperer.

Thane and Isobel plan to throw some kind of bash at their house to introduce me to the brotherhood. Sounds very much like a matchmaking party to hook me up with a bro. But it can’t happen until this takeover thing with their enemy, The Order, is finished. That means I’m a good two months from being introduced into the fold and matched with the man who will take responsibility for me. My future husband.

All of this worry and uncertainty would be unnecessary if the beautiful man driving me home from the consecration would open his eyes and see what’s right in front of him: me, standing before him with my heart in my hands. Silent but wanting so, so, so badly to give him everything I have to offer.

Jamie Breckenridge. The blind bastard just won’t see me. But how can he when he rarely even looks my way? I’m as unnoticed as the air around him. I exist. I’m right next to him. And I’m invisible.

I’m standing on the corner of Screw This and Keep Pursuing and it’s time to choose which route I’ll take. I’m leaning toward giving up but it’s killing me. I’m Ellison MacAllister. A white flag isn’t part of my repertoire. Normally.

Jaded Hearts Excerpt Reveal

jaded-hearts-banner

jadedhearts_frontcover_loresSigning with Brighthouse Records was supposed to be everything we ever wanted—our better life. Our chance at everything we never had but always wanted. All our dreams would finally come true and we were on top of the world. It was our chance at the happiness we never had in life.

Our every desire was at our fingertips and the power of that feeling was all consuming. But then it took every dream we thought would come true and it slapped us in the face with the cold hard reality.

Dreams were just that…something that floated on the cusp of untouchable, taunting you with every graze of your fingertips before slipping even further away.

Happiness…that feeling is a joke.

In the end it became painfully obvious that each of us would always have each other, but we would forever be alone.

ADD TO GOODREADS

Prologue

Signing with the record company of our dreams should have been the best thing that ever happened to us.

And it was…for a short while anyway.

While the glitz and glamour of the fame’s promise was shining as bright as our stage lights we could forget where we came from and live in the glory. The money bought us every happiness we ever craved. Those false securities that you think will make your life better. The instant friends, lovers—you name it—would do whatever we asked just to spend a second in our presence.

We had it all.

The only problem was when we had those quiet moments in between the insanity. When we were slapped in the face with the reality that all we really had—all we could count on—was each other.

My brother, Weston, is the only constant I’ve ever had in my life. He’s the person that I know will never let me down and will always be my biggest support. We grew up with parents that hated us. Really…it sounds ridiculous, the notion that parents could hate their children, but ours did … no, do. They made no secret of it when we were younger. And they continue to attempt to pick at our very souls like the vultures that they are.

My earliest memory of them is somewhere around third or fourth grade. That was the year that they seemed hell-bent on reminding us that we had ruined it all for them. Constant screams and verbal lashings.

According to them, they were on the edge of fame and then we came along and it all went down hill. Even now, I still can’t understand how they came up with that logic. How we were to blame for their reckless behavior. The same reckless behavior that, in reality had ruined whatever path they might have traveled. It has nothing to do with us, but to them, we were essentially their bad luck.

When we hit middle school it got worse, but only because they knew that they could leave us for long periods and we wouldn’t die.

Our parents, like us, were born to be stars…or at least they assumed they were and they had no qualms about reminding us that fact daily. Unfortunately for them, they lacked the drive and ambition to never back down until they had everything they ever wanted. The first challenge that was thrown in their path they decided to take the low road full of scavengers and sinners.

Like I said, vultures through and through.

Our dad knocked up mom in the early eighties, when big hair rock bands were all the rage and theirs was seconds away from signing the record deal that would make their careers.

Then they found out about us.

The twins that ruined it all.

And all those long nights performing in whatever local hole they could find, bouncing from town to town just waiting for their big break was washed away.

Mom was no longer the singer that men would lust over. Not when we ruined her body. And our dad was so deep in the bottle I’m not sure he realized he was swimming in it. Again, something that was blamed on us.

When their band fell apart, they decided hating us was almost easier than hating each other. They had a common goal in their blame and right or wrong, to them we would never be anything other than a reminder of why they aren’t living their dream.

Their band mates obviously didn’t share the same bond that Weston and I have with Jamison and Luke. God forbid I ever found myself in a position like my parents had been in, I know my boys would band together and the show would go on.

Because for us, this is it.

This is our future’s promise of a better life and even if for me it’s starting to look like more of a curse than a promise, it’s something that we would die before we gave up.

Unfortunately for me, I’m pretty sure that there are a few people that would love to make that happen.

I’m getting ahead of myself. You’re probably wondering who am I.

I’m no stranger to you. I’m on every magazine cover. You open social media and I guarentee you there is a spondered post about my group. Turn on the radio, boom – there we are.

I’m everywhere.

I’m Wrenlee Davenport, lead singer of Loaded Replay, and I’ve learned the hard way that there is plenty of people in the world that would love to have a piece of me, but they don’t give one shit about the person behind the voice.

They see the persona. The fake me that the record label loves to market as the sexy singer with the body of a sinner and the voice of a saint, but for me—I’m probably always going to be that stupid little girl that believes that my prince charming will come riding in on his black horse—because really, black horses are so much more badass than white ones—and prove to me that every little jaded piece of my heart is worth loving.

And he will love me for me.

For Wren.

Not the Wrenlee that, for more times than I care to admit, has to drink herself stupid just to face this fucking life I’m living.

Yeah… fame and fortune is far from everything I ever dreamed it was.

It’s my own personal hell and I pray that there’s something or someone out there that can prove to me that the world isn’t screwed because the majority of humanity is too busy licking the windows on the outside to see the beauty behind it. All they care about is what’s at face value when what matters is skin deep.

I should feel bad for prince charming. My knight in tarnished armor. Because he’ll have one giant battle on his hands to make me believe that there might be someone left out there that doesn’t just want a piece of me.

Book Review: Sweetest Sorrow

Sweetest Sorrow (Forbidden #2)by J.M. Darhower (Goodreads Author) 4.42  ·   Rating Details ·  489 Ratings  ·  113 ReviewsDante Galante has evaded death a few times in his life, but held captive in a sweltering basement, he's certain that death has finally caught up to him. Bloody and barely breathing, he tries to stay strong, but there's only so much a man can endure before darkness takes over.

As a critical care nurse, Gabriella Russo witnesses suffering often. Thick-skinned, forever cautious, she doesn't take her work home with her... until Dante Galante lands himself in her hospital. Recklessly grieving the sister he believes he'll never see again, Dante needs a friend. Just a friend. That's all it's supposed to be.

But life has other plans for them, just as it had for Matteo Barsanti and Genevieve Galante. Away from the chaos, building a life of their own, there's only one thing that could ever bring them back to New York: Dante.

Rules get broken and boundaries are crossed as the fight between rival families continues on, drawing them all deeper into a war they want far away from... for good reason.
TeriLyn's thoughts: In J.M. Darhower's magnetizing sequel to By Any Other Name, which must be read after as it's not a standalone, we learn what happens after the end of book one. So much goes down in the first book and we're left wondering how these characters will clean up their inherited and unfortunate messes. All questions are answered in Sweetest Sorrow while the introduction of new conflicts and characters give the book extra captivating material.

Matty and Genna are still in major flux with their lives thanks to less than desirable family circumstances yet still their sense of passion, witty banter, and love is wholly preserved. I loved taking their journey with them in this book. Additionally, Genna's brother Dante is in a world of trouble. Straddling a gray area between of loyalty and instinct Dante's world begins imploding the only bright spot a sweet, confident nurse in Gabriella. The journey readers embark on with these two simultaneously with Matty and Genna's was captivating to read.

Full of love, understanding, betrayal, violence, and humor - Sweetest Sorrow makes an excellent reading escape. Much happens in book two. Relationships grow. Unlikely friendships are forged in steel. Characters new and old make appearances. And all the while Darhower's writing and plot structure remains as energizing to read as in the first book. Her story telling leaves readers satisfied and hopeful for more. She's created characters I thought about long past the end, my imagination going off in tangents to preserve their memories in my reading brain. I really enjoyed these two books immensely and fell in love with all the characters. I look forward to reading this author's Sempre series and whatever she publishes in the future.

Book Review: Harmony and High Heels

From New York Times Bestselling author Tracy Wolff and International Bestselling author Katie Graykowski comes a sizzling tale of heartbreak, Harley-Davidsons and high heels …Harmony Wright is a bad girl living a good girl’s life. From the time she was born, she’s always been the good twin. The ladylike twin. The twin her high society (or at least as high society as you can get in San Angelo, TX) mom likes to parade in front of all her garden club friends. She’s gone along with it, too—wearing pearls and Chanel when ripped jeans and motorcycle boots are more her speed. But when Harmony takes off for an extended visit with her twin sister, Lyric, she leaves her good girl persona in the dust …Dalton Mane knows what it is to be bad and he’s more than ready for the peace that comes with living the good life. Once the crown prince of a powerful biker gang, Bastards of Hell, he walked away from it all when tragedy struck. Now the general manager of the Fort Worth Wranglers, he spends his time wheeling and dealing in the sports world and all while keeping an entire team of football players in line. When Harmony crashes into Dalton, his tidy little life is over. Will he give up everything to keep Harmony out of trouble?
TeriLyn's thoughts:  **Harmony and High Heels generously provided in exchange for an honest review.**
Another fun book from this author duo. The Fort Worth Wranglers series delves into romantic comedy effortlessly. It's so easy to get folded into the pages of Harmony in High Heels thanks to "five alarm Harm's" antics and the man who adores the hi jinx. With Lyric and Heath returning from book one in big ways, Harmony's story flows that much better. We see another side of these zany twin sisters and the two men accompanying them.

Dalton Mane has his life under control and succinct. He's a little bored yet likes it. That is until he finds Harmony Wright wielding a pool stick in a mini skirt whilst facing danger. From there on he jumps on board Harmony's crazy train quest to prove to her debutante mother that she's not the prim and proper Southern girl baker everyone thinks she is in order to secure to her own contemporary, television baking show. Destruction is the name of Harmony's game and she's all in to win. With crazy plans to prove she's a bad girl, diabolical pranks to prove to Dalton she's untouchable, and Dalton's sweet acceptance this bad girl baker is a force to be reckoned with even as she drags her twin sister down with her. The plot is chaotic, full of humor, and seamlessly written by Wolff and Graykowski making it easy for me to read in one evening. The characters are truly lovable and loads of fun. Seeing the Wright sisters in action with cameos from some old and new friends the book will just make you smile.

If you're a romantic comedy book lover this is a series for you. The writing is good. The stories funny, zany, and sweet. And the characters great fun. Harmony in High Heels is a little edgier than Lyric and Lingerie's more geekier side which is in total agreement with the Wright twin sisters. The flow of their lives and how they mesh as sisters, friends, and cohorts fits perfectly with the men they fall in love with. Enjoy this book and smile - it's worth the ride. If there's any plans for future installments from Fort Worth I'll be all in again with the next set of fun-loving characters.

Book Review: By Any Other Name

By Any Other Name (Forbidden #1)by J.M. Darhower (Goodreads Author) 4.19  ·
A deadly rivalry.
Two families at war.
Nobody is safe, not even the innocent.
Especially the innocent.
Blood will be spilled.

Genevieve "Genna" Galante knows a thing or two about causing trouble. After all, it's engrained in her DNA. As the only daughter of Primo Galante, notorious boss of the Galante crime family, her life is dictated by a certain set of rules… rules Genna was never very good at following.

Matteo "Matty" Barsanti never wanted anything to do with the family business, but as the first-born Barsanti son, certain things are expected of him. It's his duty, according to his father, to help take down the enemy... even if that enemy means something to him.

A chance encounter on an elevator changes the course of lives, causing the biggest trouble of Genna's young life. The only good Barsanti is a dead Barsanti. She's heard it said time and time again. So what happens when she falls in love with one of them?

The story of star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of the biggest rivalry New York has ever seen, determined to make it… if only they can survive their parents' feud.
TeriLyn's thoughts: J.M. Darhower penned a real thrilling story in By Any Other Name. I couldn't put it down so consumed by the lives of these two characters and the twisted mafia-family mess in which they're both so entwined. With the characters being younger I would classify this story as New Adult however with the writing and character development being so mature it doesn't have any trace of the naivety often found within this genre. It's layered and nuanced. The characters strength and sass palpable through the writing.

Darhower eloquently presents this story from the third person point of view. Two star-crossed lovers destined for destruction inside a web of betrayal and violence. A timeless romance trope expertly executed. Matty and Genna find each other unexpectedly forming an instant connection full of sexy banter and playfulness despite their circumstances. When truths are revealed neither continues the journey with blinders on but rather an astute perception of their realities. The conflict isn't angsty because of nonsense misgivings, vulnerabilities, or distrust. It's born and bred from events and history outside of their control. I love this sort of relationship in books, love reading how two people strive to make something that feels so real actually happen in their lives rather than depreciate it with internal issues. Chaos erupts all around Matty and Genna, deep roots of loyalty and perceptions are penetrated and tested. Their journey to overcome the chaos is a compelling one.

Awesome secondary characters, a perfectly orchestrated setting, and the detailed history all converge creating this bigger picture story for Matty and Genna. I can't compliment the writing of J.M. Darhower enough to do it justice. It comes off as effortless story telling and engages the reader thoroughly. I fell in love with Matteo Barsanti and Genevieve Galante. I felt like I was a part of their story and not a bystander watching from afar but rather an insider who felt everything they felt and saw everything the saw. By Any Other Name stands strong in the romance genre. If you love mafia stories and timeless romance with super sexy banter and passion you'll undoubtedly love this book. Can't wait to read the next installment.

Book Review: Jed Had to Die

Jed Had to Die by Tara SivecNovember 1, 2016 Genre: Romantic Comedy Goodreads

Buy Links Amazon | Amazon Paperback | Barnes & Noble | iBooks | Kobo

Synopsis The happiest day of Payton Lambert's life was the
day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky get smaller and
smaller in her rearview mirror. She wanted more for her life than a tiny town
where everyone knows your business and you can’t find a decent cup of coffee
for at least forty miles. Twelve years later, an unexpected phone call in the
middle of the night has her packing up her life in Chicago and racing back home
to the one person she ever regretted leaving behind.

Upon her return, she sees that Leo Hudson, the scrawny boy who followed Payton
around like a puppy and could recite cow insemination facts in his sleep, is
long gone. Leo is still hot on her heels, but now he's wearing a sheriff badge
and dead set on solving a murder that may or may not involve Payton...along
with half the town. In a place where the biggest crime happened the day someone
kicked a few of his cows, people are pointing fingers, rumors are spreading
like wildfire, and Payton swears she's only making out with the sweet-talking, studly
sheriff to distract him from the secrets she's keeping.

When you've been tased, peed on by a yippy dog named Bo Jangles, and can't stop
picturing what Sheriff Hudson looks like naked, it will be a tough job making
everyone agree that...Jed had to die.

Review
**Jed Had to Die generously provided in exchange for an honest review.**

Tara Sivec put a smile on my face throughout Jed Had to Die. A cross between the Dixie Chicks song "Earl Had to Die" and Kristen Ashley's Rock Chick series, Jed Had to Die hails as a laugh out loud funny, incredibly zany suspense with sweet & silly romance. With each Rom-com style book of Sivec's her charmingly witty writing constantly seduces me into the romance of her stories add a little mystery coupled with intrigue and the story provides a great respite from the heavy of life.

Payton Lambert owns Liquid Crack a coffee shop I'd go into if I lived in Chicago and I don't drink coffee. But I'd go for the camaraderie, the atmosphere, and the no-nonsense antics from her and her best friend - the hilarious and straight shooting Bettie. Called unexpectedly from a hospital near her childhood home of Bald Knob, Kentucky, Payton rushes home to the side of high school best friend and wife to the illustrious woman beating Jed, Emma Jo. Not one to be super pumped about returning to Bald Knob, Payton finds Bald Knob is exactly same. Same town, same gossip, same players. Except for one wrench in her life. Sheriff Leo Hudson. And holy Hudson, Batman, is Sheriff Leo what RomCom heroes are made of.

A quirky, crazy story of Whodunit? - Jed Had to Die seriously left me crying in hilarity, smiling, and feeling real happy about reading it. Sivec's writing never ceases to entertain and I highly recommend this book for any romance reader who's looking for a fun, comedic, and entertaining read.

Genres: M/M Romance
Nothing but a #blur…
There’s a new kid in town, and he’s hell on wheels.

From what we’ve heard, it may be because

he knows exactly what hell’s like.

Lonely.

Scorching.

Unforgiving.

You may know his brother, the NRR hotshot

(and former GearShark cover model)

Lorhaven.

It’s only natural a driver with his background and family connections

has sped his racecar into the newest, hottest division.

But that’s not all.

Arrow may be following in big bro’s tread marks,

but he doesn’t plan to stay there.

He’s swerving onto the road less traveled…

and a lot more controversial.

He’s opening up about his private struggles with sexuality

to tell a story that’s gone unheard until now.

One thing’s for sure; Arrow may have a painful past,

but his foot is heavy on the accelerator.

With speed like this, he’s bound to leave everything behind in

nothing but a #blur.

Book Blitz: Dangerous Kiss

Dangerous Kiss
Crystal Kaswell
Publication date: November 2nd 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance
He was supposed to glue my broken heart back together. Instead he threw me away.
Now he’s just another rock star asshole.
He gets everything he wants.
But not me. Not again.
Ethan Strong was the first man I ever loved. He was the one person who understood me, the one person who made me feel whole, the one person who set my body on fire.
We were supposed to be together forever. Then things got hard and Ethan forced me to choose between him and everything I’ve worked for.
Now he’s back in my life. He says we’ll be friends. It’s been a long time. I can forgive, but I can’t seem to forget. The taste of his lips, the sound of his groans in my ears, those calloused fingers between my legs– I’m going out of my mind remembering all the pleasure he brought me.
Worse, I keep thinking how happy he made me.
I can’t fall back in love with Ethan. It doesn’t matter how badly I crave his gorgeous blue eyes, his tattooed arms, and his strong guitarists’ hands. It doesn’t matter that his smile still lights me up inside. It doesn’t matter that I need him like I need oxygen.
I’m not giving Ethan another chance to throw me away.
Goodreads / AmazonEXCERPT:His eyes meet mine with this look that begs me to spill my guts.
He waits to speak until his drink is melting ice. “I know you think Mal is pulling strings to get us back together.”
“Is there a reason why you don’t object to this?”
“Mal doesn’t listen to anybody but Mal. Besides, I’ve seen him stressing about numbers. He doesn’t have the expertise. And I’m not saying you do, but he’s right. You’re somebody we trust.” Ethan’s eyes find mine. “If you want the gig, you should take it.”
His voice is even, effortless. Usually, Ethan wears his intentions on his face. But not right now.
No. That was the old Ethan, the one I knew. This playboy rock star version of Ethan… who knows what he does or why.
I take a long sip of my now lukewarm drink. “Won’t that bother you?”
“No.” His voice is shaky for a moment. “Just, well… I’m not gonna be celibate just because you’re around.”
“Excuse me?”
“I get it. You think I’m a manwhore. I won’t argue.” He runs his hand through his wavy hair. “You’re right. I fuck a lot of women. That isn’t going to change if you join us on tour.”
“Thanks for the update on your sex life.”
“Don’t want you to get upset if you see me with someone else.” His voice is clipped, his expression is frustrated.
But why? I stare back at him. “I don’t give a fuck where you stick your dick.”
“Good.”
“Yeah, great. Is that it?”
“Pretty much.”
I stare back at Ethan. I’m getting in the last word here. “Goes for you, too. I didn’t swear off sex when we broke up.”
Okay, so I’ve only slept with one guy since Ethan and I broke up. Denny and I dated for a few months. He was crazy about me—he wanted to move in together—but I never felt the same. After we broke up, he nearly evaporated from my mind. It still goes back to Ethan every time I pull out my rabbit-style vibrator (he did buy it for me). Or every time I touch myself sans mechanical assistance.
I clear my throat and smile my most confident smile. “Don’t get upset if you see me with someone else.”
“You’re sleeping around?”
“That’s not a crime, is it?” I chew on my lower lip. It’s not the case either, but he doesn’t need to know that.
“No. Of course not. I’m glad. Anybody I know?”
“No.”
“You coming often, at least?”
“Excuse me?”
“We’re gonna be around each other. We should be friendly.”
“Pretty sure you coming often goes past most people’s idea of friendly.”
“Of course, Vi. Would never want to make you uncomfortable.” He smiles, the look in his eyes screaming I guess that’s a no.
I clear my throat. “Yeah, I’m coming a lot. Every night.” By my hand, but that’s a technicality. “Sometimes multiple times.”
His expression flares with frustration. “Great.”
“And you? Enjoy screwing strangers at bars?”
“Depends on the stranger.”
I laugh-scoff. “I guess it would.”
He smiles.
Even though we’re hate-flirting, I fucking melt.

Book Review: Marriage Games

SBPR-MG-BT.jpg
Marriage Games
by CD ReissSeries: Games # 1
Release Date: October 25th
Genre: Contemporary RomanceMARRIAGE-GAMES-cover-2xblurb.jpg

"Marriage Games is one of the most powerful novels I have ever read. CD Reiss gets into the soul of her hero and heroine and never lets go. A strong, clear picture of the psychological and emotional challenges of a D/s relationship, especially in a marriage. Why it works and why it might not. Can’t wait for the next one." ―Desiree Holt, USA Today bestselling author
Synopsis:THIRTY DAYS

That’s all Adam Steinbeck demands of his wife.

Thirty days in a remote cottage, doing everything he demands. After that, he’ll sign her divorce papers and give her complete ownership of their company.

THIRTY DAYS

That’s how long he has to rediscover the man he once was. The Dominant Master he hid when he fell in love with her five years ago.

THIRTY DAYS

She wants the business they built badly enough to go to the cottage for a month. Cut off ties to the world and do his bidding. She can submit to him with her body, but her heart will never yield.

She thinks this is his pathetic attempt to repair their marriage.

She’s wrong.

TEASER THREE copy.jpg

Excerpt:“Pull your skirt up.” I said it without acknowledging the possibility that she’d disobey. It felt good to use those words and that tone. To watch her eyes go to the floor.

“Trust me.” I said it so low she was just within range to hear it. “Five minutes. Then we don’t have to fight over the car.”

I stepped back and set my watch with a beep. It wasn’t about the car for her. The Jag was the least of her worries, but it was a tangible justification.

For the downcast eyes. For the way her breathing changed. Maybe every bone in her body was vanilla. Maybe not.

“Quit any time,” I said. “Just say the word.”

She laid her hands on her hips.

Curled her fingers.

Gripped fabric.

Pulled up her skirt.

The tops of her thighs came into view then met at the crotch. I was hard already and made no move to hide it. She noticed and stopped moving the skirt.

“Higher,” I said as if telling her how to center a picture over the couch. Higher was where it had to be. It wasn’t a request.

Up it went, revealing cotton underwear in a pink so pale they were almost white.

“Now what?” she asked.

“How do you feel?”

“Weird, Adam. Really weird.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m standing here with my skirt around my waist? Because you told me to? For a car, no less, which is creepy.”

She was so honest. I ached for her honesty.

“You’re not obeying me for an object. You’re obeying me so I do something. Take an action or don’t.”

“You think that’s not weird?”

“No, I don’t. And we have four minutes.” I stepped forward. Part of her discomfort was in the physical distance between us. I’d stepped away so she didn’t feel threatened, but my gaze was keeping her from relaxing. I kept my eyes on hers. I could smell her perfume and feel the shortness of her breath. “Are you turned on?”

“Sex isn’t going to get me back. I’m sorry—”

“Touch yourself.”

Her initial shock and offense lasted only a second before she pressed her lips together and reached down, shoulders angling, hand thrusting as if checking to make sure her cunt was still there.

We have hundreds of bones in our bodies, and sometimes we won’t acknowledge the preferences of the ones that scare us.

“Are you wet?”

“A little.”

I gripped the edge of the vanity and put my lips near her cheek, millimeters from touching her.

“You don’t love me anymore,” I whispered. “But I could always make you wet, and you always came for me. Like our Italy vacation. In Florence. Coming back from that club, in the little alley. Against the wall. I ripped through your underwear.”

Her breathing got shallow and fast.

“I fucked you in the dark, and when you came, you screamed my name so loud all the lights in the apartments went on.”

“That was good.” She turned her face toward mine.

When her lips nearly touched me, I pulled away just enough. “I said I wouldn’t touch you.”

“I changed my mind.”

I wasn’t fooled. Her arousal was talking. I owned her. She’d do whatever I told her. But I wanted something very simple. I wanted her pleasure. “Take the juice from your cunt and rub it on your clit. Make it wet.”

“Adam.”

“What?”

“What’s come over you?”

“Do it.” I felt her arm move against me. “Rub back and forth. Be consistent. One-two-one-two.”

When I felt that she had it, I stepped back. She stopped. Her knees were bent slightly and her fingers had taken her cunt from the side of the crotch, not the waistband. She never ceased to surprise me.

“One-two-one-two, huntress.”

“Is this your way of getting back at me?”

“One-two-one-two. Let me see you come. You’re so beautiful when you come. You’ve gone this far.”

Her body must have been able to override her mind, because she moved her finger again, closing her eyes. Her cheeks reddened and her knees bent more deeply.

“In Florence. An hour after we got to the hotel. I came so deep in you that night. I fucked you from behind with your leg up on the dresser. I wanted to thrust my whole body inside you. I loved you that much. And I gave up who I was. Last night, at the club, I remembered what I was. I was a man who was obeyed. I dominated women, and they submitted to me. The result was what you’re about to feel. Complete pleasure.”

She let out a long, low groan, leaning on the vanity, twisting. I could have fucked her right then. I could have bent her over the counter and pounded her. But that wasn’t the point. No. Watching her hand move under her clothes because I commanded it. That was the point.

An uh escaped her throat. Years of marriage had taught me that meant she was about to come.

My watch beeped.

“Time’s up,” I said.

Her eyes went wide. Her hand stopped.

“Thank you,” I said. “We’re done. I’ll send you the title to the car. You might want to pull your skirt down, since I can’t lock the door from the outside.”

It was hard to walk away from her panting, bent frame without tasting her cunt or even seeing more of her reaction, but I turned the corner, unlocked the door, and left the bathroom.
Add to GoodreadsTeriLyn's thoughts: **Marriage Games generously provided by the promoter in exchange for an honest review.**

As always the writing of C.D. Reiss leaves me in awe. Her precise story structure and precisely unique plot in Marriage Games sets the measured pace and tone of this book while completely hooking her audience. This erotic book deeply explores the limits and emotions of BDSM within a crumbling marriage. With the story told from both points of view of the already married hero and heroine Reiss captures the confines, inner turmoil, and basic needs of the D/s lifestyle quite eloquently. It’s a journey into the unknown between two people fighting different battles as battering rams against each other all the while the depth of their vulnerabilities shine. It’s an opening of communication lines and fascinating examination one’s true self within a marriage.

In a very concise yet wonderfully chaotic way, the telling of the story exhibits a linear story line while in the present tense. Set against the present random memories from the past are relived no particular order. Living through important memories but doing so out of order with the characters and having them juxtaposed against the present gives readers a heightened sense of nostalgia. It characterizes very specifically the seasons of change in life and in marriage as it constitutes the varying degrees and flow of growth. A very life-as-it-happens, memory triggering form of expression I found fitting to the kind of deep and psychological story telling Reiss consistently presents and tells here with Marriage Games. In terms of plot and characters, this book is very different than many other BDSM, erotic romances I’ve read and intriguingly so.

Full of reverent thoughts, self-deprecation, and blinding contradictions, Marriage Games asks a lot of questions. Reflections of self are woven through most every scenario in this book. For a reader, it’s a deeper level of examination of one’s own self as well and that what I loved most about Reiss’ writing with each of her stories. Its human emotion exploited against societal standards, pressure, and stereotypes. Who these characters are intrinsically versus who they are externally coupled with the flood of emotions that difference can bring. The story begs the question as to why we can feel something so deeply within ourselves yet show the world, our partners, our reflection something opposite. The characters are living with an underlying grotesqueness towards their baser, most fundamental needs.

Who are we really when it’s just us and our reflection? Can we truly define ourselves separate from our jobs, our spouses, and our culture? And when do we make the decision to want to? I think this book represents important emotions about ourselves. When will we finally strip ourselves bare and handle the rawness of who we are? And further, if we finally do that, how do we make our inner self mesh with our partner? Without apology and remorse Reiss examines these questions then makes her characters own themselves without apology. After their exposure and emotional extraction can they find the ultimate pleasure in having their partner feel the same about them as they do their selves to make them cherished – worshiped even?

With a continuance of exploiting those emotions Reiss will tell us. Adding these two new characters in the wonderful playground of C.D. Reiss’s work are brilliant choices. Her story straddles the grey lines of right and wrong for oneself in a psychological and romantic telling. Her brilliant writing once again shines bright from the pages. As Marriage Games is the first of a two book duet, the next installment leaves much room for growth and reflection. I can’t wait to see where these characters take us in the next part of their journey.

About the Author:CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up, she's at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

Critics have dubbed the books "poetic," "literary," and "hauntingly atmospheric," which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she's some sort of braggart who's too good to chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
