Break the Bastion by Christopher Rankin

Global climate change has raised the sea level hundreds of feet and the only barrier against the monstrous ocean is a four-thousand-foot wall, known as The Bastion. Morgan Battle lives at the base of the Bastion and has been chosen by its creator for a very secret, very special experiment.
He meets the only two other experimental subjects, the lovely but isolated Callista and Lucas, a bullied boy stricken with a mysterious illness. Their three lives intertwine, leading them to a terrifying and life-changing conclusion. (less)

It’s a mystery/suspense story about a psychologist’s relationship with a troubled six year old girl and her family. It will be available for Kindle at the end of 2014. I’m also developing ideas for the second volume of the Ann Marie’s Asylum series as well as for a follow up of Creating Monsters, tentatively titled: At War With The Monsters. (less)

"This was sort of an off beat story which is what made it interesting. It was good to see someone not following the same pattern as others."

"Just goes to show how the wealthy role. Just because some ppl have the wealth to adopt a child, don't mean they have the right intentions. This whole ancient ritual cult paranormal drama in this book was way too realistic in its believability. But..." Read more of this review »

"Interesting

Thought provoking premise, given our current state of things. Quick read, nice change of pace for a genre that can get stagnate at times."

This is a strange book. I love the cover and I loved Morgan (before the last 50 pages) because he reminded me of someone I know. But then some bad things happened to Morgan, changing his charac..." Read more of this review »

I'm the author of this book and certainly biased.

I'd say this is either my best book or my worst. I'll admit I went pretty far.

“I got tired of constantly watching shrewd little bullies like you walk around like you mean something, like you’re better than the people that make your life possible, like you were born entitled to run the world. And I should confess, Mr. Bunting, that I don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun as I’ve had helping to destroy your silly little empire.”
Christopher Rankin, Creating Monsters

“With nature on your side, you don’t need numbers, you don’t need financing and you certainly don’t need to make friends with people you should be fighting
against.”

“There’s this fancy restaurant nearby with a nice view of the water. The Alchemist and Barrister, they call it. I’ve always thought the place looked nice. Since I don’t eat regular food or go on dates, I’v never been there. I’d like to make an exception and take you there on Saturday night. That is, if you’d like.”
