Hi Mella! Thanks for the question and for reading my books.

There were a couple of things that influenced that. I first started drafting a book in this series in 2003ish. A neighbor of mine at the time was *extremely* upset about some "yard art" that another neighbor had. It was actually a very frou-frou wishing well (with no function as a working well) and some small statues.

Soon after, Parade magazine in the Sunday paper featured an elderly couple with a collection of yard gnomes. Something clicked in my head at that point. :) Their collection wasn't as extensive as Myrtle's, but I figured she could put her collection into overdrive.

At the time, my grandmother (my original inspiration for Myrtle's character) was regularly exasperating my father over her antics. It all came together! (less)

Checking In On Goals Halfway Through the Year

by Elizabeth S. Craig, @elizabethscraig

Around this time of the year, I like to take a look at my goals that I've made and evaluate how much progress I've made on them. I'm actually usually right on target because I try to make my goals really easy to meet. I figure it's better for me to have the “slow and steady wins the race” mentality than try to set a really lofty goal a

Edit to Death by Elizabeth Spann Craig
I've often said that I'll likely write Myrtle books until I'm at least as old as Myrtle and even if no one but myself is interested in them...but it makes it *so* nice that readers are enjoying the books, too! I really appreciate all the support, encouragement, emails, Facebook messages...it makes me so happy that others enjoy Myrtle and Miles, too. :)

Thanks for this, Sherrie, and for reading "Checked Out!" I'm working on book two in the series right now. :) It's "Overdue" and, with luck, will be out by the end of the year (otherwise, January). You can find more information on the story here: http See Full Answer
