I yell at my kids.

Just kidding, that never cures it. :)

Really, I find I am most blocked when I have too many obligations, work, and other projects on my plate. As a mother of eight, nana of four, and mother-in-law of three, my house and life are always full. I also do volunteer work and help individuals in two organizations looking for family support. After all of that and a bit more, I have little solid time for lengthy writing.

I do feel as if I suffer writer's block but not in the usual way. If my chapters are sketched out, I have no problem fleshing them out. By sketched, I mean the barest idea of where we are going and who is in the scene. By fleshed out, I mean writing the actual chapter.

No my problem, at least judging by the first two books I have written and the third in the works, is that I need solid blocks of time - preferably a night or two away from home, where I can create in total solitude. This blog piece about finding the perfect place to write will explain more if you care to check it out.

damienLet’s talk about the Anti-Christ. For some the term antichrist, is said to be a man possessed by Satan himself, who will oppose Christ directly during the end days. The general populace will supposedly adore him, many will proclaim him to be God as he deceives as many souls as possible into following him into hell. Scary right? What comes to mind for me are thoughts of the end of the world, the...

“..And they spun, he and the blackness.
And as they spun supernaturally downward in a motion that Gabe could only liken to a flushing toilet, Tzaddik was engaging the enemy. This truth was lost on Gabriel Katz, but as long as he held on and fought with every ounce of his strength, every evil dot of that malevolent force, that legion of Hell sent to destroy the boy, was engaged instead with Tzaddik Gabrielus, chosen by God for that very task.”

“If I had to advise parents, I should tell them to take great care about the people with whom their children associate . . . Much harm may result from bad company, and we are inclined by nature to follow what is worse than what is better.”

“These self-appointed deacons in the Church of Latter-Day American Literature seem to regard generosity (of words) with suspicion, texture with dislike, and any broad literary stroke with outright hate. The result is a strange and arid literary climate where a meaningless little fingernail paring like Nicholson Baker's Vox becomes an object of fascinated debate and dissection, and a truly ambitious American novel like Matthew's Heart of the Country is all but ignored.”
Stephen King

“That by desiring what is perfectly good, even when we don’t quite know what it is and cannot do what we would, we are part of the divine power against evil—widening the skirts of light and making the struggle with darkness narrower.”
George Eliot, Middlemarch
