The author breathes advertising during the day and writes at night. She lives in Dubai, UAE with her husband, three kids and one hyperactive Maltese, the only reason for her to wake up at six each morning to his loving woofs.

She is an Economics graduate and an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University, India. She spent her early childhood in Iran, where her father worked as an ENT surgeon. She has first-hand experience of the Shah’s reign and the Iranian revolution. This gives her a unique sense of attachment to the country, hence the Iranian background for her debut novel, Urma. She is currently working on her second novel.

Dear Cynthia,
Sorry for a rather late reply! To answer your question, I was a teenager at that time and from that perspective I found post-revolution to be quite restrictive as opposed to pre-revolution. I wouldn't like to comment much on the policies as I am not the right person to do so. I am sure they had a valid reason for what they did. In any revolution, there are always two sides one that is pro and another that is against the cause. As an outsider and a non-Iranian I couldn't agree with the reasons for revolution, I felt bad for Iran and its people! I love and miss the Iran that was! That's why I wrote! I went back to Iran in 2005 and I think things have changed for the better, from immediate post revolution, but still a long way to reach what it was just prior to the revolution!! (less)

There are days when I walk around in daze. Things get done. But my heart is not in it. There is a haze in my eyes. The alphabets glide and trickle down my brows and into my eyes and roll down my cheeks.
What is it that drives me into that state? Well, I think, when I put off writing a bit too long and the thoughts crowd my mind. When the tussle in my mind is: weather to give the next two hours t... Read more of this blog post »
